sockkpuppett started talking about it but I kept back-burnering it because it seemed really involved and I just didn't have any extra mental capacity for something that wasn't "Scandal." I did vid review at VVC this year and when I received

astolat 's phenomenal "When I Ruled the World" vid, that was it. All she wrote. Done. For future reference if you want me in a fandom? Make a dual pov slash vid. They are my catnip (which is interesting because I *rarely* make them).

Anyway, massive thanks to Luminosity for handholding as I watched every single episode (yeah, she rewatched so I had someone to fling emotions at) and also for helping me hash out if this vid was finished or was done or if it was actually done, done. I had even more beta help in the form of

Dear Festividder,

YAY!!!! I pretty much told you everything about all of this in my request thingy so feel free to ignore this letter. I'm mostly posting this here because a Dear Festividder Letter is tradition at this point and without one it is impossible to get treats and all and because filling out the request thingy made me all nostalgic for prom, even though I think I am more nostalgic about Molly Ringwald's proms than my own. Except for the one where she was pregnant. All of my proms were waaaay better than that one.

Okay, so musical tastes. I have no real preference. Seriously. My likes are alllll over the map, and the few dislikes that I hold tight right at this moment? Are set to change and become likes without warning. I voluntarily listen to Celine now, is all I am saying. I still kinda feel it is too soon for Whitney or Amy Winehouse, but you know, I am willing to eat those words if you feel a masterpiece is at hand.

I only requested six things this year. I almost went to eight, mostly because I wanted to explore the Prom theme further (but I don't think this is the year for me to go full out on Prom, so recognize I am just using it as the thing that grabbed onto my brain when I filled out the form and not some weird Prom-Fetish that you must now fulfill or I will cry hot tears of denial. Seriously, I'm just being twee with it, bear with me). I was also tempted to ask for a few more requests in order to pad the Patron Saint of Festivids* odds more towards my chosen candidate. Except, doing that? Feels like cheating. Ahem.

These six things are all things that I really really love. I really really want vids in these fandoms. I'm not particularly picky about what you focus on or the type of vid you wish to do for any of these fandoms. Want to make a broad comedy vid? Go for it. I'm also stoked that I am almost finished with my summer practicum which... you have no idea how much mental energy and actualfax physical energy I have sunk into this. Just. God.

So, I've been in a bit of a rut with work and school and completely and utterly unable to vid. I tried. I couldn't. It was terrible.

After about 6 months of it, I looked at this summer (seriously, with work and internships I am gone over 90 hours a week) and decided that I was a Retired Vidder. I mean, I did it for a decade. I had a good run of it.

greensilver got sick of it. She waited until I had a fresh bottle of wine, a stuffed cheese pizza and told me we were vidding the Avengers.

She had me at Loki. I won't say that I am not a retired vidder, but last night? I was a drunk, gleeful one. Fun, fun times. Every time the cam footage started to look really shitty, I'd drink more.

Tumblr keeps traumatizing me visually. I had no idea I was such a sensitive person but apparently all it takes for me to get all dramatic and flaily and freaked the fuck out are pictures of Benedict Cumberbatch looking like himself or Martin Freeman as a hobbit. Or in a bathtub.

Thankfully, Beyonce just posted some pics of her pedicure. ILU Beyonce.

Meanwhile, my trip through Sherlock fandom appears to be nearing its obsessive end - all signs point toward my exit sooner than later:

1. I am able, for short periods of time, to watch something OTHER than Sherlock (this was not the case until recently).

2. ALL the songs no longer automatically are about John or Sherlock or John/Sherlock. John Watson still sets fire to the rain, in my head, but the less we talk about that, the better.

3. I have read ALL of the fic. Some of it twice. I even read the WIPS and spent important "Should Be Writing Paper/Studying" time obessively refreshing to see if they were updated (I totally blame A Cure for Boredom for being updated/finished RIGHT when I got to the end of chapter 7 for reinforcing this behavior . Side note: I really really liked A Cure for Boredom - a coworker was all "You should read "50 Shades of Gray" and I was all "Ummmm" ANYWAYS). I am at the point where I've read some of the AUS (normally the last thing I tap) and when I am not reading AUs, Sherlock has anorexia and John cries a lot. Like all the time. Except when he is protecting Sherlock from that mean, awful girl Sally Donovan. Y'know, because words hurt and Sherlock is a delicate flower.

4. I read too many stories in one day and perseverated on the Scent of Sherlock (it kept getting mentioned) and decided that... um, probably it is not a very appealing smell for me.

5. Waiting for series 3 is gonna take a tremendously long time and my goal is to be out of graduate school by then. I won't be out of graduate school or even continue to still remain IN grad school until I recover at least a small portion of my focus.

6. No seriously, what is up with the eyebrows? Dudes of the UK: Eyebrows are very important. They FRAME YOUR FACE. Matt Smith there are reasons I can't focus on entire episodes of Doctor Who (oh god I am so very very shallow. So very).

7. Martin Freeman keeps appearing on my tumblr as a hobbit. This is potentially only off-putting to me. I am quite thrilled for him and his good fortune and am sure he does very fine job in the role. Just... hobbit.

8. I'm in danger of work burnout and now that I am aware of it, my obsessive focus (potentially there as an unconscious protective measure) is not as needed. This could be good because OMG have I been vid-blocked. Seriously - I had three vids started and nothing was happening and it was just awful. I forgot I get vidblocked when I am burned out. Unfortunately, I don't see myself being able to un-burn-out anytime soon.

9. The Avengers are coming.

I was gonna try to make this list 10 but then I was stretching so yeah. In other news, my nails look really nice. I've been getting gel manicures and for once they are not chipped or bitten or broken and are getting kind of long for me. Also, I now have enough experience to say I prefer OPI Gelcolor over CND Shellac (totally chipped first day on me) and Gelish (topcoat did not stay as shiny). I got three weeks out of my OPI mani, which considering how awful I am to my hands and how much I use them at work says a lot.

Okay, I have 3 papers due by Thursday and one group presentation. Tonight is the NCAA Championship game* and oh, yeah - I have to work every day this week and Wednesday is a double. I am gonna be on tumblr A LOT!

* greensilver remarked Saturday night after all the riot geared police and firemen and burned out couches (it was an apocolyptic scene if apocolypses come with dude-bros and high fives and really, they must) that maybe the kids will get it all out of their system and be calmer when we win tonight. I just stared at her. Clearly, I have been lax in preparing her for this outcome.

So wow. Festivids has happened and it happened BIG TIME. Also, I was not defaulted upon at all this year. In fact, I was like... the anti-defaulted upon. I was unfaulted.

You guys. I made out like a bandit. Ten vids. THAT IS NOT A TYPO. I received ten amazing vids and when I got home from work yesterday and saw this, I am not gonna lie: I got choked up. I don't think I had just a vidder - I had a committee! I am just so happy and moved and grateful and there are ten vids made just for me and I love them all!

Let me tell you a bit about them:

Rocky Movie Series

First of all, you should start with the three Rocky vids as I believe they go together:

Start with "Livin' On A Prayer" -- this song so succinctly and passionately tells the story of Adrien and Rocky and the first two movies and HOW DID I NOT REALIZE THIS BEFORE NOW?? I just... those are legitimately wonderful films and the story of these two and how they struggle and fight for their lives and their family and just... they are HALFWAY THERE!!! I have moments I laugh out loud with joy and moments where I just... I FEEL IT YOU GUYS! I swear to you this vid gets ME PUMPED! And then Adrian almost dies and Rocky CAN'T WIN and then... he does. And it was never ever never just his journey - she was there too and they built all of this, together. And it was hard and sometimes they both wanted to give up and give in but they didn't because that is not what they do. You really should see this vid.

Okay, now it is time to dial it back just a bit, but not to much because Apollo Creed? He "Can't Hold Back". AT ALL. So, yeah, I love Apollo. This vid also loves Apollo? Do you know what Apollo loves? If you guessed Rocky Balboa you are not wrong. From the very first "tremble when we touch" punch to the development of their eventual close and enduring friendship, the respect that these men have for each other is never in doubt. This song is perfect -- their bond is the hand of fate -- and neither of them can hold back. This is one of the reasons they go so hard in the ring, in the training field and later? In love. I am just. This vid. *hugs it tightly* (Note: this vid is firmly Apollo POV and as such ends on a very nondead, yet poignant note).

Rocky and Apollo are perfectly, evenly, matched. They are men who have climbed and fought and worked to get to the top of their field, they are elite athletes and in each other they have found that perfect foe and also the one other person who *gets it.* They approach their craft differently - Apollo is grace and Rocky is a bruiser, but inside the ropes they are opposite yet equal forces. They are each other's "The One" and just... this vid tells the story of their journey and you guys... it breaks my soul. I mean I don't want to spoil the vid or anything but when you watch just... Okay, there is just this masterful sequence where the vidder has captured Rocky and Apollo at just what might be their greatest moments of shared triumphs, when Rocky pushes past his training hurdles and then when he defeats Clubber Lang, and the vidder intercuts IVAN FUCKING DRAGO RIGHT THERE on the lyric "No shadows block the sun" and yeah -- this vid is gonna hurt. Because the thing is, Rocky loses. Rocky is actually a fantastic loser -- he is well known for his ability to just take a beating and keep going, but Apollo sees past that to the CHAMPION that Rocky really is and they both just recognize this quality in the other. Except, Rocky loses and ultimately this story is a tragedy because that is what happens when STARS COLLIDE!!!

Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Okay, so immediately after that vid you just need to turn to "Baby I'm a Star" because this vid possibly contains magic. Carlton Banks can do anything he wants and he can do it right now, right in front of you. I am a true believer. I think by the end of this vid? So is Will. This vid is guaranteed to make you happy, make you feel better about the state of the world and will make you want to get up and groove with a side benefit of cousinslash!

Friday the 13th the Series

I wanted a Ryan vid. I actually, specifically, wanted a Ryan/Micki cousinslash vid that would complete my childhood. I got exactly that. Not only did I get that, I got "Kissing Cousins" and the vid just comments on the entire relationship with aplomb and yet still highlights the ridiculousness of some of the scenarios and ... I cannot believe that I got a Friday the 13th the Series vid. I can't believe I got an Elvis Presley Friday the 13th the Series vid. I am so lucky. I am so happy.

The Legend of Billie Jean

Bad Karma: Billie Jean as a Revenge Vid. Billie Jean as Jesus. Billie Jean as a Unending force. My name is sisabet and I approve of this message.

Dude, really -- this vid takes the bad assery of the original and just ups it for a more modern time (seriously, cutting your hair and wearing one earring was REALLY bad ass in the early 80s) and keeps the focus tight on Billie Jean and her fight for justice. FAIR IS FAIR!!!

And here is where I start to get choked up again, because... I got two Legend of Billie Jean vids, and they are both distinct and just... they were made for me. Do you understand how special that is? Every single vid I received, all ten of them, were made specifically to appeal to me, or to highlight part of my request and this happens TEN TIMES IN A ROW. So I am watching "Young Heroes" and I am grooving to the Youth in Revolt aspect of the movie this vid highlights and happy that there is someone else out there in the world who is able to convey the universal truth that wetsuits=empowerment. And it isn't just Billie Jean's story here but it is the story of how she enacted change in the world and how she was able to use that change to become an actualfax hero but... you can be a hero too. SNIFF!!!!!! I HAVE SOMETHING IN MY EYE!

Bosom Buddies

So, I never really thought anyone but me would want to vid this show. I actually never thought anyone but me would actually WANT a vid to this show. I didn't want to have to make a vid for myself - but how else was the world to know about this wonderful time in our shared history where Peter Scolari was hot? Hot and in love with Tom Hanks? "Lady in Red...ish Pinkish... Oh Hell" assures me that this mission has been undertaken and the message is being delivered to the masses. Oh, show. Did you really do all this?

A Different World

Once upon a time this was my absolutely favorite show. And Dwayne Wayne/Whitley Gilbert? I shipped it hard. Very, very hard. And "Hillman Breakdown" just... well IT IS THE ENTIRE RELATIONSHIP AND IT IS MADCAP AND YES EPIC!!!! Also, adorable. So adorable.

Okay, for starters - I've been waiting at least 35 years for a Bionic Woman vid. I would say 36 years but there was a year or two there where I probably wasn't really conscious of this desire. So yeah. 35 years. To say I was touched and surprised and just grateful? Would be understatements but I don't really know how to express my excitement in textual form. I mostly just make flaily arms at the screen and then make the eh eh eh eh ehhhh noise and then just... I mean all these vids were made for me and I am just so overwhelmed and happy and I do want to thank everyone. So very much.

So, grades are in and I got A's! On my unofficial transcript status thingy it says I am in Good Standing. Twice. Whereas on my undergrad unofficial transcripts it says "In Good Standing" on one line and then on the other "Dean's List" and this is the point in my story where I discover that there is no Dean's List in graduate school and I feel I have made a terrible mistake.

I NEED OUTSIDE SOURCES OF VALIDATION LIKE GRADES AND DEANS TO ACHIEVE!!!!!

Fuck a bunch of professional degree and licensure. I WANT A PLAQUE! Or a trophy. Or something. Maybe a ribbon? Also, why are they not mailing me my grades? What will my mother post on her refrigerator now? How can she know that she is proud of me? Do I just tell her? DO WE HAVE TO COMMUNICATE? DOES MY UNIVERSITY NOT UNDERSTAND HOW MY FAMILY WORKS AT ALL?????

A bit about me: I am excitable and tend to get really really happy when other people like the thing that I like. I also have no real squicks and I tend to really like violence but also fluffy bunnies and in the end? Violent Fluffy Bunnies. Yes.

It is really hard to offend me or gross me out but you can try! I will respect you for it! I loves the slash but I can get on board for the het as well and just... deep down I am kinda a smushy romantic and I just want everyone to be happy. Even if that happiness means that they can't be legally wed anywhere but Tennessee (hint- this is the year I went all out on the Cousins-Slash.
