Okay, so I«m a long time fan. I love your vids because I think they layer meanings and say complex things about the canons and the characters. And about us as human beings. *Because* they say things about us as human beings. It's not always evident and I generally have to work for it, have to watch multiple times and analyze and parse out what I think the vid is saying. And sometimes I think I get it. "Oh, this is obviously what the vid is about!" But it is also a process where I construe the meaning, project my feelings and my thoughts and my beliefs and my interpretations. It's a dialectic between me and the vid and what you, the author, meant to say, even if the author is dead, hurray.

So thiis a vid where I'm not sure what it is you meant to say but it is a vid where I definetelly find meaning. And it's about how this character goes from being manipulated to making a grab for power because of what he went through and how that fails and the result is the same and it's loss and death and grief. And how he then chooses sacrifice for the sake of others, in the hope that others will do better, in the hope that his sacrifice will not be in vain.

But he doesn't know things will turn out. There's no closure in the vid and we're left not knowing either. We're left watching him take the blows and feeling and hoping and fucking invested in this character. And the vid leaves the feelings in *us*. Because Derek's life is the worst and we want things to work out in the end. And that says something about us, that we feel and that we hope for him. That we hope for us, ultimately.

I'm not sure if that made sense. But yeah.

Oooh, thinky thoughts are thoughtful! You know that the only valid read on this vid at this point is the viewer's take and I like yours a lot. Poor Derek - I will tell you that at a certain point my blurb was "The increasingly poor life decisions of Derek Hale."

I think I need to watch this about ten more times. Perhaps immediately.

OMG, I'm loving this vid so so soooooo much. This song choice was spot on. (And thank you for reminding me that I haven't listened to this album in a while.)

What Netweight said in their comment about the vid having a sense of non-closure really resonated with me as well. I think part of why I appreciated this vid so much is that it reminds me of everything that's gone on in seasons one and two between Derek and the others, particularly Boyd and Erica, and just how much has been left unresolved with these characters.

(And, okay... yeah. I'm a sucker for Derek Hale and his legions of issues.)

I love this song so much - it was extremely viddable IMO (duh, of course since I vidded it). I did plan on eventually vidding the entire thing with all of the first half of Season 3 (the vid deadline was halfway through the airing cycle) but then... it just became too depressing. I sort of like how it is now. The show has almost taken out all the sport in making Derek Suffer.

This was absolutely amazing! I loved how the vid alternately makes me really feel for Derek and then makes me think he's a total asshole - a real emotional roller-coaster.

Definitely going to rewatch this a lot. I loved the song btw - I had never heard it before - it lent a really atmospheric feel to the whole vid.

Also loved your VVC Challenge vid, The Gimmick - was brilliant! And it was so awesome to see Strange Days footage used in a vid - I adore that film!

Derek is both things!!! Thank you so much for the comment -- the album this song is from, Circuital, is extremely good (also I have serious heart for MMJ as they used to be local).

Thanks for your feedback on our challenge vid -- and I looooove Strange Days and it is very, very viddable. Maybe I'll request it for festivids?

Yes! Requesting Strange Days for festivids is a thing that needs to be done :D

I actually have a project file that's been burning a hole in my hard drive for forever, I should probably get around to completing the vid... I think I should do a rewatch - I'm sure that'll motivate me ;)

Gorgeous. I love the tight focus on Derek and his family, blood and chosen, and his loss of both. That some of that loss is down to his choices, some of that is out of his hands and an argument could be made for how losing one led to losing the other. Love the final shot you chose for this, that exhausted look on his face but determined lift of his head. I think that says a lot about Derek. And the song which is so fitting because for someone like Derek who's lost that much but keeps going, there must still be some kind of belief or hope ("to dance to victory dance", whatever that victory is and maybe that or the way he goes about it changes) that it's worth it.

I loved this vid, it's such a great portrait of Derek and all his many struggles. The beginning was so beautiful, I really loved all the setting imagery shots and how you faded them into Derek's face. I love how you show him losing his family and then creating a new one, creepy as he did it. That shot of Erica smiling and then Derek smiling was so perfect along with creepy. Bonus points for putting the threesome dancing scene ;) And then the setting sun with Derek and his people being tortured was so heartbreaking. Oh Derek and your manpain...
