So I got my festivid nominations in yesterday. In a fit of self pity and over-whelmedness (totally a word) I briefly considered that it is mad folly to even try to participate in festivids this year but dualbunny inspired me to plunge right in, anyway, and you know if she can make Catbaby exist merely on the strength that it was her birthday, I should listen to her.

I'm on the mend, but I have a goddamned paper due in two weeks and apparently? Research and finding journal articles has changed in the decade and a half I have been out of school.

I vege out watching Son's of Anarchy and in attempting to findvagabondage a song for Gemma, I realize that a song I have always wanted to vid (and have claimed and watched claimed by vidding friends countless times over the years for various things only... no one has vid it - I don't think. 25 – Music – Do you listen to music while you rip source? Do you listen to your vid song immediately before vidding, months before vidding, or just while working on it?
Yes. LOL. I listen to music when I am driving or cleaning the house or you know, listening to music. By the time I get around to ripping source, I usually am either watching my vid source, a carefully chosen background complimentary source (for example, while vidding Friday Night Lights, I had FNLplaying constantly in the background. When I vidded Game of Thrones, my background source was Metalocalypse). I listen to my vid song tirelessly for months or years before starting the vid - I rarely listen to it when I am actively setting up the project. I am All About watching more television, though.
26 – What is the oddest (or funnest) thing you've had to do for a vid?
Um...One time, at Band Camp,sockkpuppett and I looked all over for things that gushed, exploded, spew and/or went into other things for a vid. I'll give you ten guesses as to the vid and the first nine don't count.
I spent several days camped on my couch withsweetestdrain watching "The Lair" and a Good Parts Condensed Version of "Point Break."
She then convinced me and Cappy that Ryan Reynolds starred as a younger man in a television show called "Young Hercules" and we immediately stopped everything to download that show. Turns out that sweetestdrain? Can't tell the difference between Ryan Gosling and Ryan Reynolds. I still don't think she realizes that they are not the same person. Somehow, we ended up with "On the Prowl" and a computer that needed an excorcism from all of that. No idea how.
27 – Where is your favorite place to vid? Where would be your perfect vidding spot?
I am so weird about this. For about 8 years I have vidded sitting in a white wicker rocking chair in leiu of a computer task chair in front of my desktop. Since I moved and got a real computer chair, I haven't been able to vid there. I don't think like where the desktop is set up. I made my premiere vid for VVC (Thistle and Weeds) on my laptop while on vacation on a mountain with my ten year old niece always around trying to see what I was doing. It was kinda nervewracking plus I needed more oxygen. Altitude vidding is hard, just askfan_eunice.
The hallway area where my desktop was set up in my previous apartment was haunted. Ask anyone. There is proof. It got creepy. I mean, I could vid there, but when I got rid of my old Dell, shit started going down. Shit of the Haunted Roy Batty Kind.
So, I guess my favorite place to vid is still Memphis.
28 – Have you ever collaborated with anyone else, whether vidding together, or having an artist or writer work on a piece about your vid?
I love collaborating! For years and years I only would collaborate with Luminosity and/or my older sisterdrdawn(but when I worked with Dawn, I always "drove" - she would sit behind me and I would vid and she would add her imput). But then my younger sister, cappylicious moved in with me. If I was into a vid, I'd eventually go lay down. When I woke up, she'd usually have finished the vid. Once I got over killing her for this, I had to admit it was pretty awesome. She took mah vid! yeah, but... I didn't have to work to get that vid? So that worked out.
Collaborating withsweetestdrain is extremely fun even when my cousin shows up (unannounced) with her three year old daughter for me to watch while we are in the middle of working/reviewing source for "On the Prowl." Luckily the child has taste that corresponded with ours and we spent the morning watching Beyonce videos and discussing Lady Gaga, Wonder Woman and Batgirl. I like to think that you can tell this from the vid.

Day 18: Where do you get the most inspiration for your vids from?
If I understood how this inspiration the works, I could streamline the process so much. Basically two things normally have to happen: I love a source so much that I want to crawl up inside it and wallow. Secondly? I get really obsessive with music. If I am obsessed with a song, sometimes I can't stop listening to it -- it is sad but in my younger years if I liked a song? I'd drive it into the ground and eventually ruin it for myself.
Now I'll listen to a song that I am becoming stuck upon until I figure out what it is about. Hopefully, the song is about a fandom I am already in - but if it isn't, I will track down other people to try and make the vid happen. Sometimes? I'll watch a show because I figure "this song might work." I need help.
Huh. Basically the answer to this question is "I'm an obsessive fuck."
Day19: When you have vid ideas, do you sit down and start vidding right away, or do you write down the idea for further exploration later?
Depends? Okay, so I am in my car and alone and this is where MOST of my ideas happen. I'm in my car and I've got a song on repeat and I am obsessed with this song. Eventually, I will figure out the song's vid-purpose (at least for me). If the stars align correctly, the vid's potential fandom will also be a current love.
So, if that happens? I won't start vidding immediately -- but I will go into hyperdrive, listening to that song and vidding it in my head virtually all the time, chiefly while I am driving. I will miss exits. I will automatically drive to the wrong place. I will take the long way home. I become very very strange if these things are all connecting and at a certain tipping point, I will start making the vid.
If the vid is something I can possibly delay? I will delay it until I have a deadline looming or I come home drunk. Sometimes, I can't stop myself but over the years I have gotten very very good at "I'll do this later" and being able to shift the obsession over three feet. I'll add the song to my "to vid" playlist and hope that I don't forget the idea. Sometimes I do and I'll have to ask greensilver or sweetestdrain why I have this song in the playlist and hope I've discussed the idea with at least one of them.
I no longer storyboard (I think I stopped doing that in my first year of vidding, actually) and any notes I make, I'll just lose. So, I get by on the strenth of other people's memories.
Day 20: Do you ever get ideas inspired from other people's stories, vids, or art in the same fandom?
Usually, if Luminosity is vidding, it makes me want to vid. I don't know why, except she reminds me why I think this is a fun hobby? Otherwise, yeah I think other fannish works are all really important and very inspirational to me. There is really nothing better than settling into a nice, meaty vid and surrounding yourself with amazing fanfic to have at the ready when Premiere shuts down, or you are exporting. I get all nostalgic just thinking about it.
Without fanfic I am postive the following vids would not exist: "Without You I'm Nothing," "Bad Romance," "Baby," "Here It Goes Again," "Peacekeeper," "Icebound Stream," "Alone," "Crazy In Love," "Turn You Inside Out," "Falling for the First Time," "Best Laid Plans" - probably, at least a lot on my part - Lum was sending me soooo many fic recs at the time, and "Weeping Willow."
The easiest way to pimp me into a fandom is to show me a solid, interesting, well made vid. If it hits my bullet proof kinks, then I am a goner. If it piques my interest, I am a goner. However, if I am vidding or am gearing up to immediately vid something? I am physically unable to watch other people's vids in that fandom until mine is finished. If I cave and watch? I will most likely be killing my project. Sometimes I can't even watch any vids at all when I am vidding because the stupid mental "I SUCK" mantra is very easy to start.
Art can sometimes just make me stare. For hours. And eventually I will gorge myself on fanfic and if the perfect song happens to occur right then? Nothing can stop me from making a vid. Not even Photoshop Paint.
Day 21: Sequels: Have you ever created a sequel to a vid you made, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?
I love sequels. I have a ton of sequels planned for vids and in the case of Bad Romance, I have a trilogy. I am ridiculously excited about that, btw - because once the Bad Romance trilogy is finished, I am gonna stop making any other vids and just spend time remastering the Bad Romance vids.
Eventually I will have the technology to make the comic book Lex's eyes blink. Digitally. It will be amazing. Oh, and I'll want Jabba the Hut to appear in the first vid to add continuity to the others. I have big plans.
Day 22: Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. Ifnot, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?
I love festivids so, so, so much. I kinda thought I would when the concept was floated because, as a vidder, I've always been a bit jealous of my friends who participated in Yuletide. It looked like so much fun! And you got to make a present for someone else that they specifically asked for and it was all about "I love this and you love this, too and YAY!" and and and... I don't write fic. Well... I mean, I have. It just didn't end well. That would not be a nice present!
But I can vid! And I love small fandoms! I offered to vid 219 fandoms last year, I get so excited about Festivids. I am not exaggerating. Imagine a small dog fed only cake all day long and then taken right OUTSIDE the dog park. That small pup will spazz less than me, over festivids. It is just that much fun. I also like that it offers something to engage me with fandom during what I like to refer as the VVC off season, because come March -- I am pretty much VVC focused until, well, September? And Festivids just plugs in beautifully right in there and it is JUST SO MUCH FUN and really great vids come out of it. It is just -- it is a great time to be a vidder and a vid watcher, frankly, and I meet the nicest people.
So yes. You should also do festivids this year -- nominations and signups coming soon!
Day 23: When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?
I always post, if I am going to post a vid, to my LJ. I very rarely cross-post to the vidding community or vividcon community because... okay, so I have some vid-self-esteem issues? And posting to comms kind of inflates those issues -- it is like "Hey lookit at me, I made a vid! It's over here!" and I start to freak out that people are tired of me or have no interest in me and I am stinking up everyone's flist waaaay too much.
I never think this about anyone else's crosspost. Just my own. In the past year I've tried to post to LJ, youtube and starting in the past few months, AO3. My website gets updated infrequently -- basically whenever greensilver gets tired of me not updating and does it herself. Which is what she did. And I don't know how to, like, fix it. It'll be fine.
Also, I have a dreamwidth account but I don't really use it yet.
Day 24: Betaing: How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your vid? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?
Is this an offer to beta? Because I'm not even joking - I will FORCE this vid upon you. I am a champion foister!
I don't have a beta horror story other than the fact that my beta is really really super mean to me and then VIVIDCON STOLE HER!!! What really sucks for me is that I now have a version of her beta self in my head and she is even meaner than the real thing and SHE MADE ME LOSE RANDOM BATMAN in a vid and I really really liked Random Batman.
I have a group of people with whom I feel confident sharing vids when they are in that fragile developmental state -- they are smart people who can tease out a narrative from three clips set in darkness, and know exactly when to cheerlead. I haven't actually had a torturous, you must cut up this vid that you LOVE experience for years. I also suspect I peaked a long time ago, so I dunno?
A good beta can take a concept and an idea and can help you pare down the execution until it is crystalline and clear. And vidding, my friends, should not ever be subtle.

I am a great big ball of kitten-fluff who would hug the entire world if I was, y'know, a huggy type person (and VVC doesn't count. IDEK what happens to me there). I am doing so great right now, it should be illegal. Right now the chief pain in my life is from the DC Reboot and pictures from the Superman Movie set. It is... awful. I can't lie. I've spent the last two days in a warm cocoon of Batslash Denial with a healthy side dose of Kon/Tim.

11 – Genre – do you prefer making certain genres of vid? What kind do you tend to vid the most?
I like things to not be based in our-reality. Magical/Supernatural elements or Surrealism or Comic Book Violence (not just limited to comic books!) are all things that will make me go "ooooh" when I see a source. Ultimately, I have to really want to wallow in the visuals before I actually will get around to making a vid. That's not to say I *only* want to vid these things - but they do get my attention. That and unicorns. Oh, and metaphorical polar bears. I am ALL ABOUT that. Sometimes Clark Kent gives birth to a Catbaby and while I technically had nothing at all to do with that vid's creation, I like to think that somehow, a greater power in the universe read my heart and made it happen. That greater power, of course, is dualbunny, greensilver, sweetestdrain and pipsqueaky.
12 – Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" vid of a favorite media source but set in a different fandom? (I.e., attempted to bring the 'feel' or 'mood' of one source to a different fandom, like the zombie Mary Poppins vid)
Yes, it was not successful but I haven't given up on the concept so I can't comment further. Mostly, though, I am a "clips to music" kinda vidder.
13 – Do you prefer canon or fanon when you vid (canon shots vs. using shots out of context; AU vs. canon)? Has vidding for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material?
This is a very good question, as non-ironical usage of certain clips (like Spike and Buffy in the kitchen) will pull me out of a vid faster than Heroes kicked me out of that fandom. I think it all depends on what the vid I am making is supposed to *do* -- I typically do not like to use scenes out of their original (or my read on the original subtext) context. So, that scene where Spike is all up in Angel's bedroom and he is incorporeal and angsty and Angel is awake and in bed and shirtless and Spike keeps making these moves *toward* Angel and Angel just gets more and frustrated? It is one of the great joys of vidding in that I can take that scene and show you EXACTLY how I read it in a vid.
I get kind of anal about context actually. If I am making a vid and it is *solely* Lex's POV, than I have to decide "What and how much does Lex Luthor know at this point in the vid?" because if it is something about Clark and Clark's powers that Lex can't know? I can't show it. The best workaround for this issue is to decide that Lex knows EVERYTHING and then to show your support for this theory. This allowed me to use stuff in Bad Romance that happened when Lex wasn't ever around. I figured at the point his character is at as the POV person for the vid, there was not one single Clark-related thing that he didn't know about. This is possibly very fanon-based as rivkat writes some really powerful almost Omnipotent Lex.
I remember getting a comment on a Lois vid "I Like You So Much Better When Your Naked" and the person was wondering why I didn't use the Clark/Lois sex scene from season 9, where Lois has traveled to an Alternate Reality and while there gets freaky with Clark in a barn, and the answer is just extremely simple to me: The Lois who is the viewpoint character in that vid? She didn't remember getting freaky in a barn with Clark because those memories were wiped. If I had included those scenes, it would have pulled me from my own vid.
Now, there is something to be said for recontextualizing scenes and by God, I think it can be done and it can be done well and if I wanted to I could have worked really hard and included Sex!Barn in "Naked." But it ultimately wasn't worth it. I did work hard to recontextualize Lex-Possessed-By-Zod in "Bad Romance" because holy shit, that stuff is iconic. Even if it didn't work? I can still wave my Omnipotent Lex (as far as in this vid) wand and say "Lex remembers it all."
I don't make very many AU vids, if any, actually. "Whatever" was in the AU show at VVC this year but Lum and I have always said that this is Angel, as we see him.
14 – Ratings – how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever vidded higher than you're comfortable with? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the vid you're making is G-rated instead?
I have no issue with going where the vid needs to go. I would have been shocked if "On the Prowl" had been G-rated, yes. I do like nudity. A lot. Gratuitously, even. And violence. Mmmm, violence. Just... leave Sam's fingernails alone. We found my line and I am sticking to it.
15 – Warnings – What do you feel it most important to warn for, and what's the strangest thing you've warned for in a vid?
A lot of my vids are pretty fucking rapey and so I made a decision last year to start warning for that. I won't stop making these vids because they are a very important outlet for me and I still have things to say - but I don't want anyone to suffer harm from watching one of my vids, either. I was all sorts of torn up about making "Thistle & Weeds" and trying to water down some stuff and still be true to the character and her journey and it just... I decided "Imma warn for this vid" and I was able to then put in what needed to go where and be as explicit (but still I was pretty concious of not being explicit for explicit's sake - for once I did NOT use nudity gratuitously), so ultimately that felt freeing.
I think the strangest thing I have had to warn for was incest. In a Sam/Dean vid to a love song that was pretty much "Here have some wincest" --apparently that wasn't enough? IDEK. Back in the day (I have been vidding for almost a DECADE now, so wow I can say things like "back in the day") in some places, you had to warn for slash. This led to my "Closer" Spike/Angel vid being rec'd on a TWOP board and the rec'er stating that you didn't *have* to read this vid as slash and I felt like such a complete failure. I really wanted the viewer to take away the message that Angel wanted to fuck Spike like an animal, if nothing else from that vid. I wanted to make sure that point came across. Sigh.
16 – Summaries – Do you like them or hate them? How do you come up with them, if you use them?
I suck at blurbs. I usually just grab a lyric and use that. If I don't do that then I end up using two or three different blurbs because I can never decide between something that adequately conveys the message of the vid and something that is funny. I am terrible about throwing out my artistic vision for something that cracks me up.
17 – Titles – Do you try to use something different than the song? Why or why not?
Usually only if I vid with Luminosity because she is sooo much more creative than I am. Words and titles and blurbs are not my strength. This is why I vid.

Recently I vidded Friday Night Lights forf1renze. Tim Riggins took over the vid. Before I started that vid? I didn't even *like* him that much. Now that I've finished that vid? I have at least three vid ideas for him. He's just so pretty. I am only human.

I like bruisers! In fact I made an entire vid about that! Well, the bleeders are not bad, too. Basically, I am all about suffering but not in a torture porn way --- in a It-will-make-you-more-interesting-at-parties kind of way.
That was a joke. Sometimes, I am told, my sense of humor is not obvious. But I do feel drawn to the characters who go through the most shit. It makes 'em viddable. That and I like the pretty. I am shallow, you guys, but Lex Luthor was electrocuted at least twice during ten years of Smallville and you know what? That was NOT ENOUGH.
Oh, and I really like very moral characters who are extremely earnest and always strive to do the right thing and then? They fail. I love the repression. The repression is so very sexy to me and when that repression falls apart? I want to be there to pick up the pieces and vid them back together.

fan_eunice has posted an interesting topic on the use of longer clips and how they can be effective and how they can be nothing but boring. Not to let an opportunity pass me by, I've got a VIP clip in comments that could use some imput.Vid Meta. It's the new orange.
So, that happened. Whew. I was there and so were many of you and we had really funtimes and sometimes too much funtimes and we also cried together and raised our glasses together and missed people together and hugged together and generally remembered that we, are in fact, a community.
And community is pretty fuckin' important.
So, I need to be more involved and there was a time when I posted vid meta and vid reviews and talked about vidding, right here! IN THIS JOURNAL, EVEN!! I KNOW, IT SOUNDS CRAZY! But the thing is I realized this year that if it wasn't for my community and all the fans who were there to help me, prompt me, focus me and just *talk* to me about vidding, I'd still be struggling with figuring out so much. I still struggle, but as anyone who attended my comic book vidding panel can tell you "sisabet knows MS Paint" (that was pretty much the take-away message) so I am doing a-okay.
So yeah. Need to post more. Need to talk about vids more. Need to grow my hair out a few more inches so the next time I cosplay Robin, I can be Stephanie.
I think we need more Get-Back-To-Basics panels - we've got such a fantastic influx of newer vidders right now and the time has come. Since I know the best way to get VVC to program a panel is to say "I have this panel idea and am willing to moderate it" this is what I will do (even though I DO NOT USUALLY RUN PANELS IN EVEN YEARS! ) and I encourage EVERYONE to do the same. Right now I am trying to decide between a very basic "Here Is Your Vid" panel and/or a panel exploring how to use Literalism in vids. I am leaning towards the literalism panel solely because I could open with Keanu Reeves picspam.
I shoulda opened the comics vidding panel with Keanu Picspam. LOST OPPORTUNITIES!
I think that we should all decided that since next year is the 10th Club Vivid, we should make it our Vividcon Prom and if you wanna dress up for "Prom" in whatever way you wanna interpret that word, go for it. If you wanna cosplay your vid/fav characters and how they might go to Prom, go for it. Personally, this is mainly why I'd choose Stephanie's Robin over Tim's for Prom. She gets it. Poor Timmy.

So yeah. We cried. By the time this vid was shown, I had been crying *all day.* Loudly. During vids. You know how when you are trying to just cry silently and do the streaming tears but your throat gets involved and all the emotions start to just spasm right there where you breathe? And suddenly you are "Uh, uh, uh, uh" sobbing? That was me, on Saturday. I might have been incapacitated by this vid, however.
So, why should you watch this? Well for starters it is soooo well done that if you can approach it analytically and actually study AD's technique here, you are bound to learn something new that you cansteal co-opt for future vids. His approach to the Big Emotion is rather flawless, is all I'm sayin'. Also, it is beautiful and lovely and you only have this short amount of time to have an adventure. This vid captures that and also love and and and...

When I tell you this vid changed my life, I do not think I am exaggerating. People that know me know I am not a Bale fan. That puts it mildly. Even people that know me very well, possibly don't know my feelings about Lois/Bruce, since it generally does not come up. I am not really down with the pairing. The *twist* that occurs during this vid? Not a big fan of that in my stories. Now that I've got all my negativity out of the way OMG I LOVE THIS VID SO MUCH. I might be *obsessed* with it and really? Getting to see this vid on the bigscreen was one of the highlights of my con. This vid. This vid started my waterworks on Saturday of the con and I knew it would. I actually started to think, though, towards the end of the vid that it might not, this time. I actually started congratulating myself on control over my own body and this, THIS would be the year that I was able to watch "Dante's Prayer" without tears streaming down my face and a lump in my throat. So. The Cowboys vidshow was not supposed to make me cry. I already had a sob-headache from Big Emotion. And then this vid, it was just so perfectly what I wanted from a Butch and Sundance vid with the sepia and the slashiness and the stuff. And then they were tired and I was all "Uh, uh, uh" but I HELD IT IN! I did. I cried but noiselessly and it was a triumph. And thendestina 's "Hurt" Brokeback Mountain vid came on immediately afterwards and that was all it took.

Oh, yeah. There was a Lex/Clark vid in Challenge that I might have liked. A little. It might have broken a part of me deep inside that might have been important. It might have created (and this is difficult to do in a vid) an original character called "Catbaby" and I know that deep in my soul one day she will find out her true Kryptonian Heritage and be named Kat-El. I might be entirely too invested in all this and no, if you do not watch Smallville, Kryptonite Unicorns are not canon. But they should be. I think that was the confusion when we were discussing the vids. Good times. Anyway, so I was pretty glad whengreensilver asked me to sit with her during vid review and then actually seemed to want me to sit beside her -yay, people still like me! I had no idea. None. I almost didn't stay for the challenge show due to feeling poorly. What if I hadn't stayed? OMG. I cannot even bear considering that.

Oh, yeah. There was a Lex/Clark vid in Challenge that I might have liked. A little. It might have broken a part of me deep inside that might have been important. It might have created (and this is difficult to do in a vid) an original character called "Catbaby" and I know that deep in my soul one day she will find out her true Kryptonian Heritage and be named Kat-El. I might be entirely too invested in all this and no, if you do not watch Smallville, Kryptonite Unicorns are not canon. But they should be. I think that was the confusion when we were discussing the vids. The SV people were too overwhelmed by the *rightness* of the Kryptonite Unicorns to actually correct the canonical assumption so I am sorry. Where am I? OMG YOU GUYS I DON'T THINK CATBABY CAN READ!!!

vividcon auction I was excited. She sent me the song and told me "Friday Night Lights" and I was excited. Then she mentioned that while she still loved early FNL, season 4 and 5 (and I still have not been able to make myself watch the last season. Don't get mad - I'm weird that way. I still haven't watched the Smallville finale, either. I need A LOT of support to finish things) had taken over her brain so this was a vid she was previously going to make...and I was terrified.
But excited! I, I would make a here's luck vid! YES! She was going to make this vid, but no longer had the time and so she had enlisted me to make it for her. I could do this. I could make a here's luck vid for here's luck!!!
And that is the story of how I found out that the type of ensemble vids that here's luck makes are really really hard to do. Impossible, even, if you are me and your brain works the way mine does. Instead of making a vid that combined all the hearts and minds of the early seasons of FNL into a coherant whole (which is exactly the vid she can make) I made a mish mash of... stuff.
So I realized that I am not so good at vidding in a macro-setting and looked for the micro bits that I could salvage and focus upon. Also, I vow to work at improving my macro-vidding skills. First up? Compiling a macro-ensemble vid playlist to study.
Anyway, this is the vid I was able to make. It is most definitely not a here's luck vid, but judging by how hard she was crying when it aired, I don't think she minds very much. I also kinda like it, too :) and want to thank h.l. for giving me the opportunity to make this vid and explore my limitations. Also there is Tyra.

Vividcon Auction: A Study In What to Buy
Mar. 31st, 2011 04:31 pmSo this morning has been spent watching The Tudors (once Anne Boleyn dies, I kinda lose interest) and Fringe. Olivia has man-pain, y'all. I likes it. A lot. Cappy is home now and we are watching vids and coming up with ideas for each vidder in the VVC Auction using my tried and true iTunes method (seriously, my iTunes? Magic. Comes up with all my vid ideas).
Here is where I admit to being sad and broke and saving for a new apartment and graduate school. I cannot buy ALL THE VIDS!!!! But damn if I don't wanna.

So, here is my appeal to you, dear flist. Go forth and buy a vid! Trust I have you covered with the ideas that will be celebrated for years in fandom. You will be Legend and not like that downer of a movie (and the book if you are not visually inclined. Both were major bummer endings - but not your vid).
Aruna7: She has added more fandoms to her willing to vid list! WHICH MEANT I IMMEDIATELY WANTED AN ALIEN VID!!! But to what song? I turned to my itunes and it gave me two Nappy Roots and one Outcast song (which sadly I had to discard but one of the ideas actually had legs so I'll keep that one in my back pocket) and then! AND THEN!!! Dudes, my itunes is awesome. It suggested "What's The Frequency, Kenneth?" for ALIENS!!!
Can you imagine? I can and it is glorious. "I was brain-dead, locked out, numb, not up to speed" or WHATEVER the fuck those lyrics are. No one really knows - you can make them whatever you want, really. Hell, Lum and I made people hear the word "Dude" in a Tears for Fears song so with the right amount of elbow grease and showmanship, you can accomplish anything.
Banbury: She will vid Supernatural so I am kinda tempted to unload my Supernatural Dreamgirls idea (Dean is telling you he is not going and Sam just wants Dean to "Listen" except the time for that vid has possibly passed on by and really -- it would be cruel to inflict upon someone who is not me) but yeah. Instead, I asked iTunes for a brand new Supernatural idea.

So, I'd need to talk to her probably via email about maybe vidding "The Boy Who Could Fly" by Pierce the Veil cause maybe that would work??? Space Dementia would work for The Vampire Diaries, maybe? Loads of self-loathing in that song. Hell, it could work for Edward Cullen. He loves Muse, doesn't he? He would totally "cut your name in my arm."

It feels kind of wrong to come up with ideas for Cappy for the auction when I am constantly coming up with ideas for her to work on at home (btw, she is my little sister if you didn't know - hence it is okay for me to call her a bitch as that is a term of endearment in our family. Our family is weird and bit dysfunctional but whatev. Like yours is perfect. *hmmph*).
The easiest way to get Cappy to make a vid? Start it and show her what you have so far and say "hey, I have to go to work. You can play around with this for a little bit but save my original."
You will come home to completed vid ready for beta. Trufax. It is scary.
But if I had to make her make a vid? Easy. I want her to vid The Roots' "How I Got Over" to season 4 of "The Wire" with a focus on Michael and Namond and just how that entire story plays out (and how so many people just do not care). I'd probably interfere a lot and send her on errands so I could have at the timeline as well (which is how I got co-vidder credit on "Space Oddity" fyi). So that is in the interest of Full Disclosure.
CEE_M: well hell, she is offering a bizillion movie vids. If you can't come up with an idea for that, then I am just of no use to you.

Post re-boot it suggests Pink's "Stupid Girl" which could either be very very offensive or exceedingly mind blowing. If the vidder takes it just a smidge to the left and uses all of her cleverness juice in one go - I pronounce this a Winning Idea (also it might involve all the Bill and Ted movies - "where or where have the smart people gone?").

I used to think this song was about Clark falling in love with Lois and I liked the interesting use of how the lyrics explicitly say that the love the singer feels makes her weak juxtaposed with Clark being, well, Superman. You guys he is having these FEELINGS! and the vid will start to shift after the first verse because we are getting into Season 3 territory here ("Time after time after time I try to fight it/but your love is strong, it keeps on holding on") and it isn't so sweet anymore. Clark is trying to leave!!! But he keeps coming back to Lex - which gets us to about Season 5.
And then there is gonna be a change, a big one, because as Cappy likes to say "Um, Clark, that isn't love that is making you weak. It's kryptonite." and yeah --- at about 3:00 or thereabouts we get to Nemesis Slash -- which. Yes. Hot.
IT KNOCKS HIM RIGHT OFF HIS FEET!

I sometimes get jealous because I'lll be struggling with a vid and go to work and come home and not only has she finished it, she's improved it tremendously and that is just not fair. She also forgot to include "Arrested Development" on her available fandom list so if you have been dying for that Tobias/Michael vid to Celine Dion, here is your chance. She says she will also vid True Blood so...yeah, that could be amazing, amirite? She makes amazing Community vids and loves Friday Night Lights to distraction. Have you seen her Wire vid from VVC last year? It was fuckin' amazing and such a gut punch at the end. She made the vid of my dreams as a Christmas present to me last year and it was the best gift I got so you can check that out just to see how good she is at interpreting "what you want" into "what you get" (Seriously, if you haven't seen it yet - go see it because it is Beyonce's "Ego" and Merlin POV and just... My notes? They fall along the lines of "I can't believe it is finished" to "Wow, it is like we planned it to do that! Wait, did we plan it to do that?" I mean, we have both had various plans to vid this song for years and years and across many many fandoms but this one time... it took.
AND I WAS NOT EVEN WATCHING SUPERNATURAL! I wasn't watching since hell, mid-way through season five for no particular reason other than I got worried about something happening to Bobby and it was just easier to not know. And then Lum told me ( cutting for early season 6 spoiler. I mean BASIC early stuff )
Sam is hot, okay? Like amazingly hot and Lum gets it. And she was patient and pretty much carried me this entire vid because it seemed I was always falling into a noncreative funk and she just supported me through it all and no matter what, we both understood the most important thing was that the vid tell the story that we both see when we watch the show. And I think we succeeded.
So thank you Lum, for being a great vidding partner and getting me back into a fandom I really do love. Now, go watch the vid!!!
