Dear Festividder 2012
Oct. 9th, 2012 02:19 pmDear Festividder,
YAY!!!! I pretty much told you everything about all of this in my request thingy so feel free to ignore this letter. I'm mostly posting this here because a Dear Festividder Letter is tradition at this point and without one it is impossible to get treats and all and because filling out the request thingy made me all nostalgic for prom, even though I think I am more nostalgic about Molly Ringwald's proms than my own. Except for the one where she was pregnant. All of my proms were waaaay better than that one.
Okay, so musical tastes. I have no real preference. Seriously. My likes are alllll over the map, and the few dislikes that I hold tight right at this moment? Are set to change and become likes without warning. I voluntarily listen to Celine now, is all I am saying. I still kinda feel it is too soon for Whitney or Amy Winehouse, but you know, I am willing to eat those words if you feel a masterpiece is at hand.
I only requested six things this year. I almost went to eight, mostly because I wanted to explore the Prom theme further (but I don't think this is the year for me to go full out on Prom, so recognize I am just using it as the thing that grabbed onto my brain when I filled out the form and not some weird Prom-Fetish that you must now fulfill or I will cry hot tears of denial. Seriously, I'm just being twee with it, bear with me). I was also tempted to ask for a few more requests in order to pad the Patron Saint of Festivids* odds more towards my chosen candidate. Except, doing that? Feels like cheating. Ahem.
These six things are all things that I really really love. I really really want vids in these fandoms. I'm not particularly picky about what you focus on or the type of vid you wish to do for any of these fandoms. Want to make a broad comedy vid? Go for it. Want to make a super-serious "Everyone Dies and I'll Be Alone" vid? Fantastic. If you are drawn to make a vid or have an idea for any of the below fandoms? I want to see it.
21 Jump Street (Movie) (safety): I love this movie. I think you can probably make the most insane, balls-to-the-wall (literally), hysterical vid in the universe to this movie. I also think you can make the sweetest Jenko/Schmidt vid that ever sweeted to this movie. You could do a combo of BOTH and maybe not even break a sweat. If you want to do a complete reversal and make a vid that is absolutely critical of the source and characters, I bet that would be interesting as well. OH OH OH! You could explore Jenko's secret pain! I mean, it isn't exactly secret and all but it would be so much fun to make him cry (Because he DOES and then he discovers Nerd Power and I luff him). You could make a serious Schmidt character study. I bet there is an Eminem song that he believes is basically his life, except vidding Em to Schmidt almost seems like wearing the tee shirt to the concert. I mean, it might be too on the nose but if that is what you want to do, I bet it works.
Carrie (safety): Someone should vid this movie and they should vid it for me. At some point in the vid it needs to say "for sisabet" and then we need to show it to everyone we know and they can all be "Wait did sisabet make that vid?" and they will remember seeing my name related to the vid and part of their mind will accept that as truth and pretty much this is what I live for. Good vids that exist and are somehow forever linked with me. Yay "for sisabet!"
Save the Last Dance (safety): I watch this movie a lot. Professionally. I watch this movie in a Professional Capacity and now don't you envy my life? There is a lot to explore and many ways you can tackle this source and I can't think of a single approach that won't make me happy. Do you want to make a sappy first love romance vid to Sara/Derek? Do you want to explore a slashy angle between Sara/Chenille? Do you want to make an "OMG DANCING!!!!" vid? Do you want to do an intense Derek character study? Do you want to explore Sara's relationship with her father? Do you want to get real and critical and exam some problematic themes? Do you want to do ALL OF THE ABOVE AT THE SAME TIME? Go for it. Get to clipping. Also, if you want to feel old? This movie is 11 years old. This movie has already started the fifth grade even though it struggled in the fourth (turned out this movie just needed glasses which was suuuuch a huge relief because we were totally getting ready to go through with further testing).
Halloween Film Series: Use whatever bits and pieces of this series' fast and loose canon that appeal to you. Do you want to make a Laurie vid? You can and I promise there is about a 20 year span of stuff to pick and choose. Does a Dr. Loomis vid make you feel pleasantly icky? Go for it! Wanna just kill people? Dude, it's festivids, find your joy.
Moonlighting: I looooved this show so much. I still do. I know I said that in my request that if you can capture sexy banter in vid form, to do it, and I realize now that perhaps I should explain further. I don't mean make a vid of talky face, right? I mean - the back and forth between Dave and Maddie is so intense and physical and hilarious and delightful -- I mean they are just a joy, amirite?
If this if the first time you have ever seen anything at all about Moonlighting, please allow me to recruit you to this fandom. I've been sort of lonely, you see. Also, this television show is basic proof that thirty years ago Bruce Willis was *not* Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I realize that I have potentially blown your mind. I do that a lot. Last night I suggested rewatching Dawson's Creek with an eye on the Pacey/Dawson slash and I don't think
greensilver has not recovered from the awesomeness of my suggestion (which was really aimed at making peace -- the Pacey versus Dawson Wars are still occurring in my living room like it is 1999. You could make a Prince vid about it).
Back to Moonlighting: this is my only request with actual requesty type things (and these are total soft limits - if you have to violate them to make the vid, do not worry about it at all): I pretty much like it when Moonlighting canon stops after season 3, although I know there are some good visuals in later seasons -- I am just not down the actual show canon S4 onward. It got real bad. I also really do not give a shit about Herbert Viola. Agnes Dipesto is fine -- she actually irritated me when I was ten because her rhyming was pretty terrible and things like that bothered me when I was ten, but I am a grown ass woman now and if Agnes only wants to speak in rhyme, I support her poorly metered decision. Herbert Viola freaks me the fuck out and can give me nightmares. I don't understand why. I just know he does.
The Incredible Hulk (TV): Just. Okay. I need a minute. Watch this while I gather my thoughts and attempt to not have *all* of the emotions.
I get that this all seems incredibly cheesy. Just, imagine you are five years old. This, this is not cheesy AT ALL to a five year old. This is an epic, tragic tale! So many feelings! ALL OVER! And people were so mean to the Hulk and he was a really nice, if green and kind of growly, guy! Also, that mean reporter won't leave him alone! It was all "Les Miz" up in there and that is the honest truth. To this day I find hitch-hikers both poignant and depressing (and also haven't they ever seen a scary movie?) Actually, the first time I saw Les Miz (and also read the book and also the movie "The Fugitive") I was all "this is JUST like The Incredible Hulk. I didn't find out for the longest time that it was also a comic book, but that is for the best as I was a DC sort of girl anyway and the comic-verse Hulk is waaaaay different.
Basically, this is my childhood. And I get that it seems sort of difficult to vid (but not impossible) and I also get that there are five seasons and three TV movies but don't feel like you HAVE to include everything, because you can pick and choose your canon here - there was a network jump. That means it may or may not have happened. Basically, we are looking at Schrodinger's Hulk when it comes to the TV Movies. What I am trying to say is that I get that making a Hulk vid seems kind of daunting and the only person who might be interested is also someone who was probably five years old when they watched this show and even with that kind of love, it still seems like it might be fucking hard as hell to actually accomplish. Except - don't you want to see it? A real, made with fannish devotion, Incredible Hulk vid? Don't you think that would be incredibly cool?
So, there it is - my 2012 requests. Please don't run away.
