I bought the American Music Issue of Vanity Fair yesterday.
I had to. I had no choice.
Willie Nelson and Dr Dre are on the cover. Together. Let me repeat, Willie Nelson and Dr Dre are on the cover. So is Queen Latifah and Norah Jones, but whatever - Willie Nelson and Dr Dre!!! And when you open it up (it is one of those 3 page covers) there is Lucinda Williams on the next page. Along with some other people but I could care less because at that point I was pretty much spasming in front of the checkout.
D'ya think Dre and Willie would collaborate on something? I mean - they are sitting fairly close together and potentially the shoot took awhile. Maybe an idea took root? If it happened they could just call it "Sisabet's Favorite Song" and be done with it. It's not as if Willie would be adverse to it - man will pretty much do anything for money (witness duets with Toby Keith *shudders*) and a collaboration with Dre would have to be better than the aforementioned TK crapfest or even his over-indulgent treacle with Babyface. That was disappointing. But Dre and Willie - man. That would be awesome. I won't even consider adding Lucinda to the mix cause I just don't wanna break my own heart.
Musically this weekend I moved in reverse - making the natural progression from The Boo Radleys to The Dirty Dozen Brass Band. It should have been the other way around: I start with The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, move to The Boo Radleys and then transition seamlessly into The Chemical Brothers. That would make sense and flow much better. Of course, right now I can easily make it flow into The Meters and then P-Funk and that could be interesting since I haven't listened to George Clinton in a good long while.
Of course, from funk I could easily move straight into hip hop, but that is kind of where I started from and it is too soon to go back cause the last time I was there I descended into crazy-Nelly-listening and planning a vid to "Hot In Here" so - just. No. I can't be trusted to go back just yet. See why it is important for me to have a plan? Bad things happen when I don't have a plan. Bad vids happen. You don't even want to know about the Lindsey/Angel thing to "Ride With Me." I'm weak around the Nelly. So I'm thinking about moving from Clinton into Placebo, but I was just listening to Placebo and if I listen anymore an S/A vid might just happen and S/A vids should never just happen. They are special and must be nurtured and coaxed.
Who should I be listening to that I'm not? I know that there is this music out there that I am *not* listening to and if you people on my FList are holding out on me, then you are directly responsible for my current deprivation.
ETA: Oh, I'd kinda like to listen to Laura Love - so I also need a plan to get me from P-Funk to Laura Love - preferably in 3 CDs or less. Now - Go!
