So I just realized that three of the vids I was considering as replacements were all in the comedy show last year and man o man. It just ain't funny unless it is meta-funny.

I need a moment.

Someone suggested Lionel/Lex as a mindfuck pairing and here is where I have to admit my total Smallville ignorance: I've only seen one L/L vid, and it did not work for me due to sloppy editing. And I am hard-pressed to think of any truly meta looks at SV beyond "A Morality Tale" but again - I have not seen that many SV vids. Also - "A Morality Tale" was in the comedy show last year - right?? Or was it in Nearly New? Wait - there was the Lex vid to "I Can Change" in the Comedy Show - was AMT also there? A Hero's Tale was in it and that works on many a meta level for me, but I wanted another Lum vid more.

In other news, I am currently listening to my new mix from [livejournal.com profile] heres_luck: The Exuberance Mix: Indie Pop with a Post-Disco Coda - I think that is the title. I'm bad with words and letters and remembering the order of things so bear with me. I can never spell certain words - like convience - wait that is not right - convinience - nope not right again. Okay - 10,000 Pyramid Rules Apply: "The word I can not spell wants to make things easy for you - it is a kind of store. 7/11 is a ____ store. I only want a boyfriend when it is a ______. If I was to marry a dude just to combine farmland and it was a total business arrangement, that would be a marriage of ______ "

Bingo. I cannot spell that word. I have like a block. [livejournal.com profile] tzikeh figured out why I could not spell Orinoco last night and now I think I can spell it. I suspect the reason I cannot spell the other word is probably "i before e" related. Also the "n" fucks me up all the time.

What was I saying? Oh yes - the new mix. Man - I have been listening to it for like 24 hours and already I am on repeat and obsessed with one song. This is probably a record. And just cause I know h.l. likes to know these kinds of things - it is "Baby" by Imperial Teen. I don't know - something about the song really appeals to me. It makes me think of High School and watching football games -only really sophisticated. And so I started thinking about what I could vid it to - natch. And I was all wondering if it would work as a Nicole vid for "Popular" with Mary Cherry accents cause I love her, and Popular comes out on DVD in October and then I decided it would not work for Freaks and Geeks, although - really - to be fair - I should probably *watch* Freaks and Geeks before I totally dismiss it. But I don't think it is slick enough. Neither is My So Called Life.

So I was getting nowhere, wondering what this song was about, but I was all wanting to have pom-poms somewhere in the vid - and not willing, thusly to give up the idea of high school as a setting. 90210 is out cause, just no. Not vidding that. BtVS doesn't want to be this vid, although it *could* work. I could make it fit although that would be a tight squeeze. And I know the reason I want pom-poms is cause of the "whoo"s in the song - but dude. That woo needs at least one pom -y'know? Also - the more I listen to the song while driving, the closer I come to wrecking my car cause I have to do a shoulder dip at the "whoo."

Naturally, by this point, I am actively considering a Torrance/Missy "Bring It On" vid and really, I need to call an end to the insanity.

Then I realized that Baby is Lana Lang. This is a Clark/Lana/Lex vid. And now I am happy cause I was really worried there for a minute that I'd have to vid Kirsten Dunst. This makes up for the SV fic I was reading the other day - it was really long and kinda flat (not poorly written, just flat), but I was excited cause I thought the author was dropping hints that Lex was a robot and really - I have this total thing for man-bots and androids that I like to blame on "Bionic Woman" (cause she battled them, yo) and then it turned out that no one was a robot - it was just me inferring it from the roboto-y foreshadowing that apparently did not exist. I was disappointed. I mean - how can you tell a story that has a total *need* for a Robotic Lex Luthor and just not go there? I ask you, how?

Morality Tale was shown at Escapade 2003 and was in last year's nearly new. I'm pretty sure it about that.

Hmm. When I can't spell a word, I always try to come up with a similar word I can spell and work from there. Like convenience:
That's kind of similar to convene, which is to get together for a gathering of some sort. So I would think, a convenience store is a gathering of crap I probably shouldn't buy. Hopefully you could also remember to remove the e and put on the ience. I noticed from your spelling attempts that the ience didn't seem to be a problem.

I used to always misspell sacrilegious and I got around the problem using something similar. For some reason I always thought the root word was religious when in reality is is sacrilege. Trying to spell it thinking of religious always resulted in an extra i.

Anyway, sorry to barge into your journal but spelling is one of the few things I am actually good at so I thought I would share.

See, you would think that it was not the ience that was the problem - but that - combined with the middle syllable always fucks me up. Convene -I can totally do that, but I can never depend on the ience to do what I need it to.

Restaurant is another word that used to fuck me up - but I think I have it now. Did I spell it correctly??

Yes, so you have at least defeated one word. I don't know what to tell you about that ie thing, it's tricky. That I before E rhyme is so totally unhelpful, it's wrong so frequently.

God, I hope it wasn't mine.

Are you looking specifically for SV vids for the show? I could help.

Hee - it wasn't. I can't remember who did it though and I watched your vids before I even watched the show - so I guess I have seen more SV vids than that :)

The vid itself - the L/L one - was an interesting idea and had promise - it just lost me in execution - I think it was posted before it was really ready to be finished.

I don't have any SV vids for the show and while I am okay with that, it did make me think that maybe I need to watch more SV vids. I don't typically DL vids anymore unless they are by someone I know or if I see them mad-pimped - so any fandom past Buffy and I am pretty much unaware of the online vids.

OMG!!!! (Enough exclamation?) You have to make that vid. I'll make sure [livejournal.com profile] truthseekersara applies the appropriate pressure on you for her visit next week.

Plus, we saw Spider-Man 2 last night, and I for one could use that vid to remind myself that Kirsten Dunst was once likeable. But hey, if you made an Isis/Missy/Darcy vid, I wouldn't complain.

I love you SO MUCH. Also, I am really amused that *this* is your first obsesso-song. It is not the one I would have guessed.

Also? You like the bonus track! Yay!

In conclusion: please do not wreck your car, especially not with you in it.

My obsesso song was *almost* Indie Rockin' - I love Common Rotation! Who knew?? - Well you knew -hee.

I also really like Fountains of Wayne "Bright Future in Sales" but I think that is because it feels like my life story.

In conclusion - you rock! Hard!

The thing about "Bright Future in Sales" is that on some level it is *everyone's* life story. Few sentiments are more universal than "I'm gonna get my shit together 'cause I can't live like this forever."

Does it make me a bad person that seeing that comment in the last post made me want to watch Lex/Lionel videos? A lot? Or even make my own? Because it did. I feel so dirty... *g*

The vidder is Birgit. The vid is I Need A Hero and it is all John/Aeryn but also funny for the gender-role switch. I still chuckle at John doing the jump up on a chair to avoid a mouse bit and the little (there-there)cheek pat Aeryn gives him in another clip.

And speaking of cheek pats...Feelin' Love Birgit's award winning vid with the sexual heat is also a nice diversion if you like the J/A ship at all. Nice work with the sex even if you don't like the ship, imho...though I know nothing of the fade-cut and the clip tweak. Several people with no interest in Farscape have commented on the heat of this vid. I'm all..."Now, let's watch Southwest Voodoo"...and they're all..."Can we see the Farscape one again? This vidding thing is very interesting."

Find both vids at Birgit's Vid Page (http://www.birgitsvids.com/)

Hmm, you know, I don't think Lionel/Lex is that much of a mindfuck pairing? Like, maybe I'm defining it differently than other people, but mindfuck pairings to me have to be less - I think the word I'm looking for is blatant? - in the show's text. Like, that one Spike/Riley vid is a mindfuck because it's so unconventional and a constructed reality and yet works perfectly, but Lionel/Lex (and all Luthorcest pairings, really) are thisclose to canon. But, that's possibly just me.

*is kind of spamming you, heh. sorry*

From: [identity profile] sisabet.livejournal.com
Yeah - there are many different ways to approach the concept of "mind-fuck" - since the show is called "Unexpected Levels" - I am looking for vids that either are interestingly meta and original or vids that just floor the viewer - kinda what I call a mind fuck. So vids I would call a mind fuck generate a "whoa, dude" reaction - like "So Real" or Killa and T Jonesy's "Closer" or Seah and Margie's "Haunted" - vids that blow your mind. Mind fuck - mind blow - all of these things make me happy.

So while a Riley/Spike vid has the unexpected part - it would have to also have the level part. It would have to make me believe that R/S was one true pair or something - I don't want a slash vid in the show that just makes it on curiosity factor.

IMO a slash vid *needs* a canonical basis. This is just my opionion - but I when I watch a vid I want to feel like a part of the show is being illuminated - something that may have been buried in the text, or something that was everything but blatantly stated. Constructed reality is fun - but it never really gets to me without a firm basis in canon.

So while L/L fuckedupitude is pretty much canon on the show - what can actually be done with that - the way that relationship can be illustrated in a vid could be gut-wrenching and mind blowing - so I was wondering if maybe that vid exists. I would understand if it doesn't - it is a big ole squicky theme.
