Apartment Found - Breathing Easier

So I need look no further - I put the deposit and signed the app for a cute little one bedroom and now I am just waiting for my move-in date so I can change my appt with Two Men and a Truck. Apparently if they don't work out - I can also use Two Dudes and a Dolley. As a last resort - there is One Man and a Van.
I'm not making this up.
So the apartment is great and is literally across the street from
drdawn's house.
It also has a claw-footed tub. Really - it was the tub that did it.
So once I have the move-in date, I'll schedule the movers and OH! Mom is redoing her living room and getting rid of her couch and loveseat - so now I have a couch. I am no longer couch-less. I'm also trading Sid-the-Dog-Faced-Boy for
caphricacorn during the move. Sid stayed with Mom while I was at Slayage and literally did not want to come home with me (kinda hurt my feelings) so I don't think he will mind. Cappy has a natural ability when it comes to arranging furniture and placing items - so it is a good trade. The only thing that worries me is she keeps wanting to drive my car and just...Cappy should not be driving. In my head she is just four years old. Forever and ever.
OH - I have freaking french doors and a fireplace and built in bookshelves and patio/balcony deal and off-street parking and really - the *only* thing I am not pleased about is part of the kitchen (new appliances and a gas range - so that is good) - tiny little sink and no dishwasher.
I have to have a dishwasher - I looked at portable ones this weekend and they are like $400. This seems excessive. I need to do more research.
There are washer/dryer connections in the apartment. Now, I don't have a washer and dryer *but* - if I wanted to put a built-in dishwasher there instead of a washing machine (they are soooo much cheaper than the portable ones) wouldn't it be possible?? Especially since there is all the connection-y thingies the washing machine would need? A dishwasher cannot be that different - right??
I'm not making this up.

Date: 2004-06-07 12:03 pm (UTC)Okay - let me get moved and settled and then I can think about things that do not have to do with getting moved and settled and those things will probably involve Wiseguy.
Also! Guess who has a capture card now?? Just - c'mon, guess...

Fireplace!
Date: 2004-06-07 09:58 am (UTC)I'm amused by your dishwasher conundrum. Our new place has one, but it's the first time I've lived with a dishwasher since moving out of my parents' house, and I keep forgetting it's there and washing dishes by hand. I figure it saves energy, so. ::shrug::
Re: Fireplace!
Date: 2004-06-07 12:09 pm (UTC)So the dishwasher works for me as a kinda of storage place for the dirty dishes. You eat off a plate - you put it in the dishwasher, then in about a week you have a full load and you turn it on and voila! Clean dishes and you really did not have to think about it or expend any energy. This is pretty much how I am able to keep my sink clean. This is pretty much the only way - I've lived with and I've lived without and it is a quality of life issue. I spend more time dreading washing dishes, than it actually takes to do them.
Maybe I should just start eating off of paper napkins?

Date: 2004-06-07 12:12 pm (UTC)It will make things easier having her and the boy nearby. Especially when it comes to catching up on QaF. I'm thinking since she has Showtime, I might go ahead and splurge and get HBO and that way we will have all our premium channel needs met in one single block.

Date: 2004-06-07 10:52 am (UTC)Personally? I would LOVE to have a washer/dryer in my apt. Sigh. I spend way to much washing and I barely use the dishwasher, LOL.
Yippee! On the Apt! The rest sounds like a freaking dream baby.

Date: 2004-06-07 12:17 pm (UTC)A dishwasher though - that is a necessity. I'm doing some research and consulting some experts.

Date: 2004-06-07 10:58 am (UTC)Also? When I was in the drugstore the other day - here the big ones sell everything from drugs to electronic goods - I noticed they have countertop dishwashers (http://www.epinions.com/Haier_America_Compact_Dishwasher/display_~reviews), so perhaps you could get one of those, keeping the washer/dryer connections free in case you wind up getting a washer/dryer set.

Date: 2004-06-07 12:01 pm (UTC)Oddly, I too will be moving into a place with a claw-foot tub. I think this bodes well for both of us. I think we should celebrate with visits -- and, of course, cake.

Date: 2004-06-07 12:31 pm (UTC)Claw-foot tubs are obviously the new red. I feel sad for everyone that will not have them. Perhaps we should be very exclusive and start an LJ community for the people with claw-foot tubs? Hee - ten to one odds that a community for that already exists.
Visits will be good.

Date: 2004-06-07 05:07 pm (UTC)Then there is always a QAF friend who owns a pick up truck. If you get desperate, that is.

Date: 2004-06-07 08:34 pm (UTC)I've got Dawn's truck for most of it - I need the movers for the heavy pieces cause I'm a wimp and Dawn has to protect her back (apparently it is the number one injury of pediatricians) - so I realized that I am a grown-up with a job and I can pay burly type men to do my heavy lifting for me.
I'm excited about the move - I keep forgetting to go to her house to watch QaF and it is so late when I get home, that here is hoping I get caught up! Apparently I missed some great stuff this week (Dawn called me immediately post-ep).
