I am freaking overwhelmed right now. I think heres_luck has broken me. I really am amazed and blessed and remember how I am always going on about how wonderful my friends are? I do not exaggerate. Not at all. My friends are FREAKING INCREDIBLE PEOPLE. And they are smart and loving and giving and OMG h.l. made a DUE SOUTH VIDEO, y'all. A KOWALSKI/FRASER slash video that is so perfect and moving and she captures the motivations of Fraser, this essentialness to him that can allow him to say he is utterly alone and in a space devoid of human life, when he is in CHICAGO. Because he is isolated. This world that he is working on does keep him miles away - it, however; is his privilege to lie awake at night and think about what he's lost (and hope for what might be found). He is right there but unreachable and WOOBIE and so wonderful and YOU KNOW THAT I WILL. AND OMG THIS SONG!!!

Okay let me tell you about this song: here's luck put this song on the first Blue Plate mix she made for me (and that mix? AMAZING) and I actually reviewed the mix here. But this is what I said about the song she used:

At Vividcon, the aesthetics panel concentrated on synesthesia. I don’t have it, well I might have it a bit – to the extent that all extremely visual people do "see" things when listening to music. I can’t tell you the color of most songs though – there are a few that I see. I also don’t see letters in colors. I can tell you that I do see people’s names spelled out – and Anne is totally different in my head than Ann. Totally different names. But that is not the same thing at all. this song however I experience as a feeling. This song moves. Actually, not at first. First it drops you out in the middle of nowhere – there are ending horizens and vistas and it is twilight. Then it picks you up, but not too far off the ground, if you fell it would only be a few feet. Then, whoosh… you move forward. At one point you stop moving forward and the song spins you. When you finally stop, you are back where you started but up in the air. You start to gently drift down and you think the song is just gonna drop you back at the beginning, but no. Just before you reach the ground it pulls you into large arcs. You aren't even aware when you stop. This is what nighttime driving music should be. The lyrics (although very evocative) become almost secondary and Mulvey’s voice is another instrument. I do not have the words to effectively describe the mesh. This is gonna be the next song I just leave on repeat. I’m really looking forward to it. I don’t think I could ever even attempt to vid it – I don’t have the skills to do it justice.

This video is AMAZING on so many levels and she made it happen and kept it secret and I am overwhelmed and very probably broken. And katallison shepherded it into being and f1renze can totally keep a secret like nobodies business and you guys are just. WOW.

Yeah - I know I have not been posting and guess what? I haven't been reading much LJ either of late and I have really good reasons but I don't feel like getting into them right now other than to say that I still have a job and I am still alive and yet I am beginning to feel as if these things are, perhaps, mutually exclusive things. I am officially dead. A SECOND fabulous Lord King Bad Vid posted tonight and I am just dying here. I cannot take anymore, my inner 12-year-old is so fulfilled that I am about ready to go find that poster of Scott Baio and hang it on my wall. You know the one I am talking about...with the white jeans. Don't lie - you know.

But wolfling vidded Rose/Doctor to "Time After Time" and when she got to the lyric "I fall behind" at the end (you'll know it when you see it), I started really crying. So go - be cathartic. Back. See!! I have absolutely *no* time to post what I want to post. I am weeks (well *a week*) behind on email. Actually - maybe I am forgetting some? OH SHIT, TINK!!! As *soon* as I can - I am getting back to you.

I actually have to give up on everything and just get away from my desk for a few minutes. Go out and listen to "Bang Bang Lulu" a few more thousand times because it is soooo a D'Argo vid. Of course, apparently North Mississippi Allstars = Farscape to me, which is fine. "Be So Glad" can be John and Stark and BBL can be John and D'Argo and eventually I'll find my Aeryn song, right? Which brings me to misogyny in fandom which is something I've been wanting to post about for forever but who has the freaking time? And I also just discovered that Uncle Tupelo works for both Firefly and due South which makes me insanely happy if it were not for the fact that, new for this week, I am allergic to Tweedy's voice. WTF? When I finally came down Son Volt over Wilco, it didn't mean what I think I currently think it means. Or something.

Did I mention the incredible amount of stress and allergy meds I am under/consuming right now? At least the stress in my head is helping to maybe balance the pressure in my sinuses... and god! The phone again! HELLS!

Back. Crap - I've been typing this for so long I forgot what I was doing and I should just stay here and work except I just reread the subject line and I realize I am here for a rec! YAY! VIDS!

I finally got a chance to check this vid out last night and it was completely lovely. It is F/K to Aimee Mann's Pavlov's Bells and I haven't sent feedback butterfly, but when I do I will be sure to gloat excessively over the movement lineups from shot to shot (something you *shouldn't* notice in vid cuts, but if you have ever struggled to make a vid flow - then you do pay attention when someone *nails* it) and how effective I felt this vid was a Fraser POV. I might have been paying special attention to the fact that there is *so* much about Fraser that we as an audience know because we saw it - but there is no way on *EARTH* Ray gets it like we do because he just wasn't there, because I was actually thinking about that (in particular how it relates to Victoria because I am sorry - there is no way he really knows what happened there just from reading a file. Hell, the ONLY person who really knows what happened there is actually Fraser. And maybe Bob - except I don't know that Bob has pieced it all together, but he could. Victoria even probably doesn't know everything that was going on there. Damn. Poor Fraser) when I finally had time to watch the vid. But it works - so go DL and it and don't wait to tell her what you think. Not like me. DON'T BE LIKE ME DAMMIT!!!

But this is like the second vid I've seen of hers in as many weeks and I know she is new to vidding - but what she is doing is really exciting and she is exploring some pretty cool themes in both this vid and the previously rec'd Buffy vid "Without A Sound" about failing and falling and being hurt (physically and in BIG HUGE WAYS and also the little tiny papercut moments that add up) but still getting up and continuing to try. It is the try or the impetus to do so - that need - that kinda defines a hero (at least for me) and so go - see - watch - comment - email - rec. Do what you need to do.

And I will do this. Stupid bills and job. OMG! But I can continue to *try*! I can keep working on my files even though it is hard and they hates me! I can be like Buffy. Also Fraser.

I would be absolutely remiss in my duties as a... huh. Well, what the hell am I? I'm not a maven, that is for sure. sdwolfpup has combined Tom Waits and Season 1 Farscape to great effect. I know many of you are watching Farscape for the first time and I want to assure that this is a season 1 vid. And it is good! And they are all Rain Dogs! AND STUFF!


As always - feed the vidder. Seriously - she has no diet restrictions so feedback away. She is like a feedback duck at the park. Pretend you are the old guy on the park bench. Except you might want to skip the arthritis part. You might not - I don't know how much you need to get into character. Just use whatever process works best for you.

I have not seen that many "Deadwood" vids and yet I feel blessed that the few I have are all so wonderful and totally live up to their excellent source material. gwyn_r and feochadn's newest vid is no exception. The vid is password protected, but if you are a good fan and understand why such a thing exists, it is really worth the extra few minutes you might have to wait to get to the download page. What else are you doing? This is DEADWOOD, you cocksucker - go and watch the vid and maybe you'll get your own moment of grace.

Luminosity has a new vid, AtS and it is heartbreaking and creepy and she has wanted to vid this song for years and I can't believe it took this long to realize it was about exactly...what she vidded it to. I mean, in hindsight it is blindingly obvious. Of course, in hindsight Illyria is the Velveteen Rabbit.

I am so behind on vid pimpage - I still have to sit and watch the Escapade show and I will, it is just... things happened this weekend and that actually is a separate post I should make later.

There are a bunch of other vids I need to watch, that I have DLed and on hold and God - lierdumoa will finish another vid in the time it takes for me to compose a thought about her Firefly vid. Just so you know - I suck.

But I need to do some pimping today and I have three vids for your viewing pleasure.

Let's start with Flo:

Hex

f1renze has been pushing this 5-ep series called "Hex" (is it BBC??) of late. Seriously pushing - as in if you want to watch she will practically come over to your house and play the show for you.

Watching this vid, I think she is on to something and as soon as I can get away from all the space-boys and cylons and wraiths and whatnot, I think I'll watch this show as well - mainly because of her vid.

There is an extremely interesting dynamic between the principle female characters - Flo nails that right away. There are supernatural events - an evil man and pure and true love that death cannot separate. At least this is what I got. Also - very pretty femmeslash.

So go - watch the vid, even if you haven't seen the show, because I think it is one of those interesting narratives that just gets deeper the more you puzzle it out. Flo vidded this very deliberately and I don't think there is one wasted scene or lyric here. Everything means what it means and then, you turn around, and it means something else as well. Very satisfying.

Smallville

piper47 finished a vid!! Whee! And she posted it. I am so proud.

Now - besides me being proud - there are many reasons you should watch this vid, but mainly because she took an idea (Clark's reaction to and deliberate use of Red K) and she takes the audience on an emotional exploration of this idea. I seem to keep going back to the narrative today, but this is an emotional narrative: What does Red K do to Clark? Why would he ever choose to use it when the side-effects are so dangerous? Why does he need to feel this way? What is the fallout?

She explores all of this and it is another satisfying vid.

Angel

I saw this vid rec'd in several places and downloaded it with a mind to watch it later, when Flo told me, no, watch it now. So glad I listen to Flo.

millylicious tackles Angel and Connor and gives this extremely stylized look at how Connor came into the world, what he brought with him and how it all falls apart and it is just... wow. Very exciting. She uses color and music to actually smack the audience on the head and say "Hey! You! Pay attention - this is important. Get ready for some pain" and I just love it when vids are abusive in that good way. And pretty - mmmm. And violent. And... well this works extremely well.

My only complaints are in the length (and this is quibbling - the vid would be tighter for general audiences if it was shorter, but then the vidder would lose so much cool stuff, so I get the choice made here) and I want to see this on a big screen, so I really hope she does post a big version soon. I'll DL and keep it for sure.

You've probably already seen this rec'd in a gazillion places. Good. I'm glad. If you haven't heard about it yet, linzeems has completed a Smallville vid called "Pet." It was good. The heavens rejoiced.

Well that is the short version of the story. The longer one is that this is a damned good vid, it is quite possibly the best summation of Lionel's influence on Lex I have ever seen and...dear god it is sick. Just - well the Lex/Lionel relationship is sick and twisted and Linzee capitalizes on that, ratcheting up the tension and relentlessly showing us a terrifying Lionel POV (ETA: oops - as experienced by Lex. Just watch the vid, you will see what I mean). Symbolic restraint and poisoning of tenderness, every touch is used to manipulate and Lionel is just so bad and wrong and yet - I cannot look away. The vid is cold and you can see her graphic artist background really shine in how she capitalizes on how this song *should* look. And the song! Perfect. It gave me chills, but interestingly enough, I didn't care for it without the vid. It didn't really speak to me. I love it now, and I love how she uses everything she has ever learned about vidding right here. This is her best work yet and I am really excited about this vid.

So while I think fans of Smallville, especially, will enjoy this (it's like FANFIC!) I also think this vid is worth a look from any serious fanvid um... fan. I for one, cannot wait to see this on a big screen. ::makes note to pester Linzee for mpg::

Linzee is a developing vidder (actually we are all developing vidders) but she really cares about feedback and real crit if that is what someone has to give. I can attest that if you download this vid, she will want to know what you have to say about it, even if it isn't much or you are not comfortable with how to phrase it - believe me, she will welcome your thoughts.

So - I blame Lum for my rant posts earlier cause I wouldn't have even been on LJ today if it had not been for waiting for her to post this vid.

I have been waiting since last night. I am not good with patience. I was born with a very limited supply and I used it all up when my mother forced me to play softball when I was eleven.

But this vid is worth it because it just... well it captures an essential element of the person that I think Angel is and it does it through the use of strict POV and capturing a character and what he is feeling and communicating that and she does it in a vid and that is so cool!

Not to mention that I happen to agree, prescribe and totally am down with her interpretation and while I want to smack Angel about the head repeatedly, it is all done with love. And a bit of lust.
