Ramble On...

So I was flipping between comment replies - one to
mintwitch explaining OutKast and the other gushing with
negativeerin about Paul Thorn (another PT fan - squeee!! Mission Temple Fireworks Stand, ya'll. It must now be done. ahem) when I realized that saying my musical tastes are ecletic or divergent or any other big word you really want to call them, isn't accurate. They are just weird. I listen to strange things with no rhyme or reason and maybe I need more rhyme and reason. Maybe I need a stable base or genre and then I just go from there. I think I could be quite happy for sometime on Southern Bluesy Rock. Nah. I'd miss Nelly and his pimp-juice. Except, I think Nelly could actually fit into the Southern Bluesy Rock classification - he isn't what you would typically think of, but his voice is extremely southern (listen to "Country Grammar" if you have any doubt. I mean really listen to it - that song is freakin' brilliant and the structure is incredible)- so maybe all the music that I really love and adore comes from the same place and it is that thing that is the difference between me loving a song and me loving an artist. So when I think Willie and Dr Dre should collaborate, then it really would work and not just in my head. I also read an essay by Quentin Tarantino that called Johnny Cash the first gansta rapper. He was a hillbily thug.
Maybe I should stop thinking so much and get back to work.
Maybe I should just haunt my mailbox for my new
heres_luck CD. Yeah, I know, Firefly shipped this week, but this CD is more important.
Also - I hate Bill O'Reilly and if Dawn continues to subject me to his television show every single day, my head could very well explode. I'm serious. My sister has done many evil and torturous things to me, but this infusion of Fox News into my brain is probably the worst on a very long list.

Date: 2003-12-09 02:54 pm (UTC)Apparently, the guys are hot. I don't know what to make of it. Right now I think she realizes that it is ultimately extremely biased and propaganda filled, but she just can't turn away. It is a very shiny train wreck.
Plus, she is a fiscal conservative. A Reaganite. It's weird that we have the same parents. I like to think that the liberalizing of her social views is all due to my influence. Also - she no longer calls me a Commie. She has like really softened with age.

Date: 2003-12-09 01:58 pm (UTC)No you don't. You need to listen to whatever works for you, in whatever accumulations and combinations you happen upon.
Yeah, I know, Firefly shipped this week, but this CD is more important.
You're utterly wrong about that, but I will take the sentiment in the spirit it's offered and appreciate the compliment. *g* There are always more mixes; there's only one Firefly. More's the pity.

Date: 2003-12-09 02:21 pm (UTC)I used to watch his show for its fictional entertainment value. At the time I hadn't realized the whole network had a conservative bent, but after reading the new Al Franken book, Lies and the Lying Liars who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right, I realize he must be stopped, or quieted. And not just because of his blotchy skin.
By the way, I started watching Fox News Channel because I thought (and continue to think) it has better graphics than CNN.

Date: 2003-12-09 02:33 pm (UTC)I'm not one to judge anyone's taste in music, as I have no taste. I like what I like, hate what I hate, and generally get really strange looks all around.
Listen to what you like and rec stuff. That's the only way I discover new music, through recs. So, rec.
I have no point, I just saw my name and wanted to comment.
