QaF US 3x01 - Bracelet talk behind the cut tag


I knew it. Brian lying in bed smoking - just before the Justinbot shows up - is actually the exact same footage used when Brian is lying in bed waiting for Justin to come home in 2x15. Exact. Same. Footage.

Seriously. I lined them up. At first I thought it was just an on purpose thing - Brian trying to recreate a moment. But the wrinkles on the bed are the same. Also - he wears the bracelet in bed. The Justinbot knocks. He answers the door - no bracelet.

Now all I wonder is why? Why give me the same scene twice? I need new footage. And season 3 was only 14 eps. My feelings are just a little bit hurt.

I hate that they did that. It irritates me to no end. How hard would it have been to film two new minutes of Brian sulking and smoking??

Could be as pedestrian a reason as time & budget constraints affecting the shooting of said new scene- so someone said-hey, let's just throw that stock shot of Brian on the bed smoking & brooding- But the Bracelet!! you don't make an accessory such a Crucial part of the plot & emotional core of an episode- & then be careless with it in other episodes. *grrr!*

The Toronto Q&A following the screening premiere of Season 3. An audience member asked Shelia Hockin, a QAF Producer, about the editing of this scene. Basically was the footage left in as a flashback to 215 like the ice cream kisses, 107 sex and various shower scenes in Jutin's flashbacks from 301? Or was it an editing error?

Sheila said that she had hoped the fans would not notice the scene was from 215. She said that during editing those in the room felt strongly that the audience needed another moment with Brian. To experience that moment with him. Because filming had moved on to future episodes they were not able to go back and shoot new footage. She said the Editor suggested the scene from 215 had the right feel and perhaps the footage could be pulled from that.

So yes, it was budget and time constraints. She hoped we would not notice, but how could we forget such a sexy scene and the bracelet? Ah well.

I noticed that too, right away, and my friends thought I was a freak - but I KNEW I was right. Christ, the editors are lazy.
