The Dangers of Over-Shipping...
Jun. 20th, 2003 02:08 pmI'm sitting at home tonight. Dawn and her friends have called a couple of times trying to get me to go out with them, but I just can't. I think the last time Dawn called it was just to check on me - but really I'm fine. Tonight was visitation for my boss's boss's boss and I was at the funereal home for a good while. He was a decent, good man that I highly respected. He was also kind and basically exactly the type of person that you would want in charge of your greater corporate destiny. He was a young man and the father of two teenagers and it is just so fucking tragic that I don't want to go out *again* tonight and be around a buncha people when I could stay at home and vid. And eat Taco Bell. And there are many, many things for me to do as far as vidding goes - cause Vividcon is coming!! Vividcon is coming!!! And I have to finish some fucking vids.
My latest vid just got whacked hard. I surgically removed the final 2:30. It had to be done - I had a good solid vision "Battleflag" - Brian Kinney character study. It starts great - very focused and then... I literally spin on the beat and the vid goes from something like "Cowboy" (but not - if that makes sense) to a total BrianandJustinforeverandever vid. Which I loved. I love it with the fire of a thousand suns and a thousand other really hot fiery things.
drdawn and
jainieg very gently asked if I felt that the song fit where I was going with it. Honestly, I never noticed it didn't. I blame two things:
1. Brian and Justin are so damned hot from the moment I first clipped the red-shirts spinning shot I was doomed - the vid was doomed and it was all over. Any other facet of Brian's life? Who the fuck cares, let's see more kissing.
2. Brian and Justin, I am powerless over their naked charms. This might look to be the same reason as #1, but in my head it is a separate reason.
So - for the greater good - the shipper half has been exorcised from Battleflag. It will make the vid more focused - more true and ultimately much much better. But I still love the shipper part. I love it separate from the first half of the vid - which is fine - but this is different. I love it as it is. To this section of the song. I have a fanfiction in my head that explains it. It involves God and the Devil sitting at a bar and making bets ala Job. There were zingers and one-liners and it actually got kinda creepy and it totally explains the POV in this vid. Then I realized that if you have to write fanfic to explain it then the vid is not working. But I still love it. I can't help it. It is Brian and Justin. Kissing. Prom. There is pain - the repeating image at "Yes We Aim to Please" I saw in my head for days while I waited to install the DVD player to rip. I am giving it up, but I am not strong enough to throw it away. And saving it for another vid seems disloyal.
So if you want to see the un-beta-ed second half of Battleflag - the shipper version - then here it is:
Brian and Justin: Theirloveispureandtrue
I can't believe it has come to this. Also - how fucked up is it that I kinda think of Battleflag as a romantic song? I even put it on a mixed tape back in the day for the ex. I thought I was being schmoopy. The next thing ya know I'll be vidding B/J to "Set the Night to Music"...which might work...
ETA Wow - ya'll are making me feel very happy with the liking of the vid-bit, but this is essentially *not* a vid - this is what I am cutting out of the real vid - this is just something I couldn't throw away. Cause of the kissing. And the lurve.

Date: 2003-06-20 09:01 pm (UTC)And I'm all impressed that my new computer with OSX just knew what to do with the file--it downloaded and then played without my having to touch it, and looked great.
Sigh.
Brian is SO FUCKING HOT.
That is all.

Now go post deep thoughts about the nature of B/J and the development of Brian's character over the course of the show's run.
No real deep thoughts today, but I am working on some fic. It is a goal of mine to create some readable B/J fic, cause so far I haven't found any and it's very distressing.

I'm totally inarticulate when it comes to vids. Sorry.

Date: 2003-06-21 05:05 pm (UTC)Actually, I just want to lie adoringly at your feet until you need them again--then you can just kick me away. I swear, I don't know when I've loved three minutes of video more--excepting of course the original source, which is its own specialness.
You get a fandom medal too, or at least a nice toaster, for instigating the mass flocking of fans to Blockbuster and online DVD stores. The power of vidding as a conversion tool is always amazing to witness.
I had to work, at work, so I listened to the song about 15 times. Then I watched it twice on the bus coming home. I could watch them dance and kiss and fuck to music for...possibl, ever. Those dane floor shots with the confetti in slo-mo...guh. And the hip-fucking and the tonguing and that amazing shot in the diner when Brian leans his head on Justin's shoulder. Then we segue to the bashing pain and he's holding Justin gently. Then we *slam* into the prom, first into Justin's POV and then into Brian's--and my god, when they start waltzing onto that heavy thrumming beat. Jesus, I didn't think I could love it all so much with such a totally differnt song.
Kissing, whirling, weeping--those shots of Brian's face. Christ. And the shot you do of him watching Justin through the glass while he's in the hospital, overlaid with the scarf shot from his loft.
I'm back to offering you sex and babies, I think.

I love that part. I was in what Eunice calls the zone and what Luminosity calls vid farr at that part - the cuts came together and it was like I knew exactly where to put the next waltz turn - I was very proud of that edit actually.
Thank you for what you said - that is the reason I decided to post an unfinished, fairly raw, cut from the final edition vid - it really *felt* good to vid it, and even though it won't fit in the Official vid - I like the flow and the juxtopositions and basically I am a big ole sucker for the Brian Close-Up Hospital Face O'Pain. I could and do watch it all day.

Date: 2003-06-22 12:24 am (UTC)Good news - I have it on good authority (having seen a sneak preview) that a real, honest to God Brian and Justin vid is in the works. And it will be brilliant. It was actually the push that gave me the strength to cut this vidlet out of Battleflag, knowing that their love will be represented. Now I feel like a sap.
