The new "Incredible Hulk" movie is flippin' awesome.* I want to have its little gamma-infested, green, angry babies.
As a person who has mainly read and followed DC comics (except for the Marvel Ultimate-verse), it should make me sad that Marvel is kicking ass while the JLA movie is post-poned (read: cancelled) and Wonder Woman is never ever never getting off the ground and Superman is a deadbeat daddy and Batman. Well, there is Batman, but the only thing I am actually looking forward to right now about Batman is Heath Ledgar's Joker. Well, that and more Jim Gordon and potential for much more Bruce/Jim (which is apparently a superhero weak spot I possess).
I mean, I feel vaguely guilty for even writing this but, Cappy and were discussing it last night and... we liked "Batman Begins" and all but we just never had this much fun at a recent DC -based film, as we have during "Iron Man" and "The Incredible Hulk". Serious, serious *FUN* and if an Avengers movie is *also* gonna feature an Ultimate-verse based Nick Fury played by (obvious casting as this is who he is modeled after) Samuel L Jackson, I want to go see that movie NOW. Hell, I'll even go see a Thor movie. Double Hell, I will even go see a CAPTAIN AMERICA MOVIE. I'd probably actually go see the Captain America thing twice, if Tony Stark shows up. Who am I kidding? I'm going to see the Captain America thing no matter what and I'll see it multiple times because it is Captain America. I mean, I'm gonna go see Hellboy later on this summer and I'll even go see Hancock and that isn't even comic book based.
Oh, and yeah: none of these movies will pass the Mo Movie Measure, but if I didn't learn how to compartmentalize my pop culture and media loves, I'd have to get rid of my television and my radio and only see movies about shoe shopping and getting married. I could still watch "The Golden Girls" however (what I am doing right now) but don't stop to think if "The Golden Girls" would ever be able to be made now, in 2008. Cause, we really ain't progressing, now are we?
*This opinion held by a person who loved the TV series, has read (and sometimes enjoyed) the comics but never loved them, and hated the Ang Lee movie. And it takes a LOT for me to hate a comic book movie that doesn't start with "The" and end with "Punisher."
