I'm Awake! Also, a Plea to the Flist!
Jun. 9th, 2008 07:54 amFirstly: This has been posted, quite rightly, all over my friendslist, but on the off-chance that there is someone reading this here who hasn't seen it:
counteragent's little sister is very sick. Her diagnosis is uncertain and right now the family is searching for people they call "comparables" - people with similar symptoms and treatments that they've used. Please, take a few minutes and check out their blog at http://jenjensfamily.blogspot.com/
Thank you.
My sleep issues seem rather silly, but here is an update: melatonin knocks me out (Sekrit message to
jarrow: I am sorry I wimped out and fell asleep before I could do the thing I said I would do. Tonight? Is tonight good?). This is good to know. Also, melatonin, unlike Benadryl, doesn't make me a zombie. I am wide awake and aware of what I am doing, which is always a plus when posting something online.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to keep me asleep for a full seven hours - I woke up at 5am today. At this point in my life, I am okay with this. I've fixed breakfast, given Sid his medicine, put a load of clothes in the dryer and watched an hour of MTV and they actually played, gasp, videos. It was crazy. In the 40 minutes I watched they played a Rihanna vid and then an Usher vid. I flipped during commercials and turned right back and there was Rihanna again! Since I love her, I was okay with her showing up again so soon even if she brought Maroon 5 with her. After that it was Fall Out Boy's "Beat It" cover which they ran viewer-comments over which kinda sucked because I wanted to watch the actual video. The cover wasn't that great, but there was Donald Faison! And BUSTER!!! Then they played "Handlebars" by Flobots and that is the first video I've seen in a long time that caused me to stop everything else I was doing and just watch. Awesome.
Also, I think this is a Heroes song. Possibly.
Also, Also: What is the deal with that Maroon 5 dude, Adam Levine? Why does he never smile? I mean, not once - I have never seen him crack a smile ever and he is all over my TV right now - he is on some dumb commercial and then he was in that hilarious Andy Samberg "Iran So Far" SNL thing and you'd think one time, just one time - he'd crack a grin*. Maybe even a shy, looking down kinda self-deprecating type almost wry, little tiny movement upwards of his lips. I mean - even Tom Cruise does that. But, no - he just keeps posturing as this super-intense dude who can't even enjoy the fact that he has Rihanna in her underwear draping herself all over him. Which, maybe he is this humorless, super-intense dude - wouldn't be the first one in the world.
*I should say: I get why he isn't smiling in the short and that in this particular instance it makes it funnier - just that his shtick is getting old fast. At least for me.
Thank you.

Date: 2008-06-10 02:31 am (UTC)Also, for some reason, I thought Pete Wentz was the lead singer and the bassist and it was kinda jarring to realize this wasn't the case. Or is it? FOB confuses me - teenagers with their crazy rock music and flatirons.
Also, I made one of my 13 year olds cry when I told her Pete got married. I tried not to laugh...

Date: 2008-06-09 01:45 pm (UTC)Re: waking up early -- I've found that often when that happens (which it does regardless of melatonin or not), if I make myself stay in bed and read for a bit (and generally go through my standard pre-sleep wind-down routine) I can get back to sleep again; it's just a question of keeping my brain from flipping the mental switch that says I'M AWAKE SO I'M AWAKE NOW GET UP GET UP.

Date: 2008-06-10 09:21 am (UTC)Really good alarm clock? *g* For what it's worth, if you've got more than an hour or so before you actually have to get up, going back to sleep shouldn't leave you groggy -- the brain naturally cycles in and out of deep sleep, so spontaneous waking up and then going back to sleep won't mess with you too much.

Date: 2008-06-09 02:24 pm (UTC)Also, that Flobots song is so cool. I hadn't seen it before, but I'm so glad I did. That video is awesome. I think it would make an awesome vid, and I can see how it could work like mad for Heroes.
Thanks for the link!

Date: 2008-06-10 02:23 am (UTC)Except, both of my sisters are like this - we tend to sleep in pockets of time from 3-5 hours long. Most doctors tend to say I am clinically depressed because of this, but that diagnosis feels wrong to me.
