First of all: Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] heresluck ! For your birthday I have vidded yet another song of yours to a fandom that does not appeal to you! YAY!

I feel kinda bad about that since on my birthday I received amazing stories from [livejournal.com profile] killabeez and [livejournal.com profile] astolat - there was porn! And Angel! And cave-ins! It was by far the best 30th birthday I've had yet, and I've had three of them by now.

So - this vid. Huh. This is a new fandom for me, in a way, although [livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett busted me out the other day when I called it that since I've been here for MONTHS (recalling such greatest hits as that one time I crashed Winchestercon) and I've been working (in theory at least) on this vid the entire freaking time. Well, this vid and about 3 others but I digress. Or repress. Whichever is sexier.

I forgot what I was saying. On to the thanks!

Thanks go first and foremost to [livejournal.com profile] way2busymom for she sent me the DVDs. Just because, I guess, she understood that there was a lone and bitter empty spot in my life and I needed Sammy to fill it. Or Dean. Filling empty spots...

Again, I forget what I am saying. Damn. Those boys. Wow.

Okay, so we know who to blame, right? If this all go south or pear shaped or if you love it or anything at all - it is not my fault. It is [livejournal.com profile] way2busymom 's fault.

Huge beta thanks go to [livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett ! She made me address a big narrative flaw that I wanted to avoid because it was pretty. She wouldn't let me - and eventually I caved and it is still pretty and makes much more sense.

lyrics

Divide your cultured pearls and paste
I'm looking for to lay to waste
Of all the things I cannot taste
and this not the racy race
They spoke loud

(I believe in what you do)
(I believe in watching you)
It's what you do

I could turn you inside-out
What I choose not to do
I could turn you inside-out
What I choose not to do

Given the choice
Given the heart
Given the tool
Given the word
Given the cheers

(I believe in what you do)
(I believe in watching you)
It's what you do

I could turn you inside-out
What I choose not to do
I could turn you inside-out
What I choose not to do

DEAN omg DEAN. (And it is about all of them, their family, but to me it is also all about Dean at the same time, because he is to me the keeper of the family flame.)

Man, I am breathless -- the juxtapositions are *brilliant*, and the movement through their story, from the boys and their dad to Sam and Dean on their own. I love especially the intercutting between the dripping blood early in the vid (and the absence of the shots of the women on the ceiling -- which I still cannot help but find visually silly/irritating even now that I have the context for them -- while still capturing the emotional power of the backstory with the blood and with Mary's spirit bursting into flame).

The "I could turn you inside out" sequences are killer, all those hard cuts on the drumbeats, how they can hurt each other (how John and Sam can hurt *Dean*), and how that illustrates the love between them. I love Dean in the corridor paired with John whispering in Dean's ear, where the song slows briefly, and how you use that to move to the second stage of the story, where it's Dean who can turn Sam inside out, dealing with the secret, the possibility Dean might have to kill Sam. Also I especially love Sam moving the cabinet on "given the word", Dean smashing the car window.

Also on my first watching you kind of freaked me out towards the end because I thought maybe you were going to end with Dean shooting Sam, and I was SO SCARED I was watching through my fingers, which I suspect is pretty much capturing Dean's emotional state there at the end too. meep!

*loves*

Holy Crap! Not sure I have coherent words to say how much I LOVE this. I told Lum I needed to come up with better feedback for you than *OMGKEYSMASHFLAIL*.

Dean oh Dean...

You did such a fine job showing everything that makes him tick. His unshaking love for John & Sam. His belief in his work. The family business. The guilt over being alive. And how all of that is entertwined. How each little bit turns him inside out, upside down and back again for good measure. From about 3:20 or so the movement of the clips just brought it home to me...how everything in him is spinning all around.

So. Much. Love.

*twirls you*

It's a comm dedicated mainly to promoting the show to magazines/media people, but also includes vids to promote to potential fans as well. I know everyone over there would want to watch this and recommend it to their flists.

Eeeeeeee! I'd say it was a coincidence that I've been listening to "Green" this week and thinking about Winchesters, except that I am frequently listening to R.E.M. and perpetually thinking about Winchesters, so perhaps not. Still: AWESOME! You've got the whole dance of the family dynamic in there - the choices John made that impacted Dean, the choices Dean has to make about Sam, and the choices Sam has to make for himself. And poor Dean as the guy who has to protect his family from the world and occasionally protect the world from his family, when all he wants to do is hold on to the two of them.

I love how dynamically it all moves and what good use you made of the very few flashback scenes. And just... Eeeee! Supernatural vid! Dean! Eeeee!

Green! What a great album. Dude, like two years ago I decided this song was the perfect Dead Zone song. The only problem was I didn't watch Dead Zone (but I had seen the mine collapsing episode due to my cave-in thing and my idea was hinged on the hand-holding moment at the musical break), so renenet kindly lent me her Season 1 and 2 DVDs (which I still have, crap! I suck! Sorry renenet) but I just never got heavily invested enough to actually make the vid - but the song was still definitely vid-worthy. Then, one day everything became about Supernatural and Voila! Vid.

Thank you so much.

Jesusfuck.

Damn. That's powerful. I want to have smart things to say about it, about how perfect the timing of the clips is (and I know this song like my heartbeat--I used to lift weights to it when I was frustrated and filled with teen rage), about how it just captures family as heaven and hell and salvation and damnation rolled up in one, but I'm just going to sit here and flail while I cry and feel like I've just been blinded by a revelation.

Damn.

Wow. Wow. That is amazing!! This vid just turns me inside out completely. You really captured so well the power behind the music to the intensity of the relationships in their family and the actions they take. I really like how you use their facial movements throughout the vid. From the opening shot, I was hooked starting from John's fateful decision that keeps Dean alive. I love the bullet, light and fire section at 0:20 which was not only beautifully edited but showed all the things that influenced their family so strongly. I love how "What I choose not to do" is reflected by Dean not letting Sam get killed (many times) just as John won't let Dean die both directly and indirectly through his presence even if it hurts them. You captured so well how much John and Sam fighting *kills* Dean at 1:10.

I absolutely love the clips you choose for what they are given from "heart" as Mary and her grave to "cheers" for them smiling in the car with those positive relationships giving them so much to fight for and so much to live (and die if they die) for. The whole section of Dean believing so much in his dad even with the demon possesion just kills me. I loove how you edit the section at 2:00 with the car crash, cutting himself with the knife, the drawn symbol and the fire (so cool!). And then I love the motion with Dean hitting the car to John running to pick up Dean to Dean sliding. John crying and then Dean's blood running down his face was particularly distinguishable, I really liked that.

The transition from John telling Dean about Sam to focusing on Sam as the you was seamless and so perfect to have Dean now carry that load. I absolutely LOVE the part at 2:18 with Dean so lost and then that punch right on the beat. So COOl especially with the effects. That Dean tear breaks my heart not to mention the perfect juxtaposition of Dean not being able to kill Sam in Crotoan and Playthings (also? hot). And perfect ending with Dean still not being able to kill Sam, promise or no promise. I really, really love this vid!

Oh, oh, oh - I *really* love your feedback! There were moments making this vid that I was all "I hope just one other person notices this or gets this or feels the same way I do" and you did! Dean's slide into the grave and John picking him up! Dean's tear! Punch on beat! YAY!

Thank you so much. Also, promise or no promise there is no way I believe in this or in any other universe that Dean for one *second* thinks he will kill his brother. I love them so.

I kept having to be reassured, while making this vid, that R.E.M. was working - especially since most of the vid was in John's POV and I was all "Michael Stipe as John. Really? Him?" so I totally hear you. I think I got by cause this is kinda still earlyish R.E.M. and Bill Berry is killer with the percussion. Yeah. The drums totally save this.

Thank you so much.

Oh! This is absolutely gorgeous! I don't even know how to respond. It was completely engaging all the way through, with wonderful and varied transitions. The progression near the end from Dean pushing Sam away to literally watching his back, to holding/supporting him just *killed* me. I also liked the quick cut at 1:46 to Dean with the fire, just because it took me a few viewings to even notice that there were two separate clips.

I'd love to say more about this, but I kinda suck at leaving feedback. But God. There's so much IN this vid. And it so gracefully captures the emotional state of the show. Plus, it's super pretty. ;)

Yay, someone noticed! It is a clip of Dean from Dead Man's Blood cut with a clip from Hell House! I love how it ended up looking- mainly cause Dean is in the exact same visual space in the clips so it looks almost like his machete turns to fire. How cool is that?

Thank you so much for your comment.

Holy god.

Found through a rec on the flist, and came straight over to see, because I know your name and your reputation when it comes to vidding.

Even knowing the normal quality of your work, I was not expecting this. This is beyond incredible. The transitions, the effects that are subtle and yet which accent the whole in places with a paranormal feel, and the choice of music are extraordinarily well done.

But the thing that tops it off and sets it so far apart is the way you portray the Winchester family dynamic -- which to me is absolutely spot-on perfect. You've captured the complexity of their relationship, over two decades of it; the violence that they face on a daily basis and the love that remains strong between them all, and how the two are intermixed and constantly, constantly there at all times.

Thank you so much for sharing this; it's just rocketed into my top ten all-time vid favorites.

Oh god, that gave me CHILLS. What an absolutely gorgeous video - I can already tell it's going to be one of my favorites. You used such recent footage, which is SO AWESOME - music vids is how I structure my perceptions of certain visual images used, you know? So to have such recent important material restructed this way by a master vidder makes me extremely happy. One moment that sticks out in my mind was the image of Dean sliding into the grave blending into John scooping up wee!Dean in the pilot. Just a great combination of images. And also the intercutting of John telling Dean the "secret" with Sam being by turns adorable and a little scary, and then the PUNCH climaxing out that section, and oh oh. I could go on forever. Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you so much for this.
