Luminosity has kindly announced our VVC mash-up vids. "Sci-Fi Friday In a Blender" is Lum's baby and premiered at Club Vivid. I watched her build this piece by piece and I found myself trying to talk her into remixing it to the mash-up "Dr Who on Holiday" cause - wouldn't that be perfect? And then she told me to remix it myself and I was all "Buhhh...." and then one night driving home I realized what could be the hook for the remix and I called Lum at 1 am and she said "Now you have to do it" and so I did.

So - go here to Download both "Sci Fi Friday in a Blender" by Lum and "Dr. Who on Holiday" by me (both vids are Dr. Who (9th Doctor), Battlestar Galactica (new series) and Farscape) and please let us know what you think.

ETA: 8-18-09 - the vid is now available again as a download:

I still love these very much. :) Hey, I was trying to find that Green Day mashup album you told me about, but I can't seem to find it on iTunes or Amazon. What was the name of it again, do you mind me asking?

*hug*

Yay, I guessed right! I missed the Challenge show, but when P and I watched the DVD, I said, "I bet that's Sisabet." I've already told Lum how much I love hers, so now I get to express my likewise awe at your accomplishment.

This such an awesome concept. Regarding your vid particularly, I like the way you included dialogue in the beginning--the creepiness offsets the relatively bouncy music very well. (I love the way the Who theme is weaved into the background.) The clips flow without giving me any pause, and I really like the way they connect into each other. Beautiful work.

I love your "Holiday" vid, and it just reminds me that I need to get into "Farscape" and BSG.

PS: That shot you clipped into your vid of Cylons marching across some kind of iron bridge? I now recognise that "Who" copied that for a certain shot in Season Two...

Those were both utterly amazing - they reflected such different things, but really pulled together these beautiful shows and found the themes running through them in addition to pulling the imagery together to tell a story on it's own. These just completely blew me away - telling a story with one text is one thing, telling a unique story with mixed texts is even more remarkable. The music fit perfectly, and the images ran seamlessly together and it just... yeah, these were fabulous. I particularly liked the sense of desperation in "Dr. Who on Holiday", the way that unspeakable odds are thrust on these characters, the choices they make, the things they refuse to give up in order to retain the essential aspect of what they are, and the fact that, in the end, they're all willing to give up everything.

I'm not sure what just happened to my brain, but I'm left with the overwhelming urge to pick up my pulse pistol and go off to fight totalitarian robot governments. Down with the silicon fascists!

Great stuff. *g*

Hi. Followed a bunch of links to get here, saw the vids on the VVC discs. This is going to sound both corny and stupid and I so don't care, but "Doctor Who on Holiday" is not only one of the best vids I've ever seen, but it (no lie, and this is probably a sad, sad statement) makes me feel like a better person for having seen it, don't ask me why. So thanks for making it and accept my humbling flailing in your general direction as the only possible feedback I can give.

Never seen BSG, never seen Farscape.

(Ninth Doctor addict, but whatever.)

I really don't think I'm capable of talking coherently about "Dr. Who on Holiday". I just want you to know that the verb 'to enjoy' as applied to me, and your vid, doesn't come anywhere near approaching it. Because it got my mother to understand Why Sci-Fi and Why Vidding (which: huge feat), and it's getting me through the end of the semester, and it's making me remember why I do what I'm doing, and why I love what I'm doing.

Thank you. Seriously.

hello! i started off the evening searching for BSG vids, somehow stumbled upon lots and lots of vividcon commentary, and now would desperately like to see these two vids - but unfortunately i do not have access to the entry that you link to. i was wondering if there were alternate places to download the vids? otherwise i will see about asking [livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett for a temporary friending. thanks very much!

hi again, sorry to be spamming you! but i just wanted to let you know that i found "sci-fi friday..." on [livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett's vid site, so that's one less vid that i am seeking. i was hoping i might find "dr. who..." on your own site, but unfortunately this did not prove to be the case.

An epic number of years after you released this but I just wanted to say how much I love it (and indeed the vid it remixes)!

Very late to the party, but this vid is AWESOME. Would you be happy for me to show it as part of the 'Constructed Realities' show I'm running at this year's Vidukon? :-)
