Posts I Have Not Made: Music Edition
Jan. 4th, 2006 04:23 pmThis morning the iPod, in shuffle mode, played the following artists - in this order - on my way to work:
Professor Longhair, Eminem, Alabama, Black Star, Jay Farrar.
Junior loves me. He also apparently LOVES Fess cause everytime I go into shuffle mode, he is the first one up. I get that.

Music Posts I Have Not Made, But Have Almost Subjected You Too:
Wilco meltdown 1.0
This was following reading excerpts of the book "Learning How to Die" and an interview with Jay Farrar about how he thought the writer of the book was contacting him for the liner notes to the upcoming Uncle Tupelo anthology record. I've posted about my Uncle Tupelo issues - I just haven't posted about them at length.
Wilco Meltdown 1.1
This actually happened in physical time right before I went to see Brokeback Mountain with
f1renze and
renenet and I was reminded of the book "Learning How to Die" by actually tripping over it at the Borders. I think that was a Borders. This was about a year or so after I originally wanted to post but I had just seen "Hard Core Logo" for the first time and I was projecting. And listening to Anodyne on repeat. I was all fragile.
There was a possible rant brewing but thankfully BrokeLiz Mountain, Flo bearing red wine and renenet reading John/Rodney slash to me outloud until I fell asleep (Best. Bedtime Story. Ever) thwarted it. Which is good because I actually believe that rants, unless they are funny, can be tremendously helpful to an individual but a negative influence on the universe as a whole. I would do well to restrict my rants to really necessary topics. Unless they are funny. Funny trumps ALL.
Wilco Meltdown 2.0 - NOW IN VIDEO!!
So, the other day I made it through most of the documentary "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" (about the making of Wilco's Yankee Foxtrot Hotel) and was really feeling good about myself as a person when it got to the part where Jay Bennet is basically asked to leave the band where I fired up LJ and wrote a page and a half of stuff that in retrospect, didn't even belong as a private entry.
And it isn't as if I don't like Wilco. I do. Kinda. In a theoretical way. Like I am supposed to like them, y'know? It is like Wilco is that guy in school that hangs out with all your friends and maybe he used to date a girlfriend of yours and it ended badly and who is to say why it ended badly - it is none of your business - but if he is around then she can't be around and so there is all sorts of planning around parties and shit to make sure that this doesn't happen. So, you never really spend time with him although you know the people he hangs out with and they are all extremely cool people, you just don't know him. And maybe the few times you have been around him, he's been kind of a dick and you are trying to not hold that against him because surely if he were like that all the time, then the cool people he hangs out with would ditch him and you know that everyone is a bit of a dick sometimes. Hell, sometimes you are a total dick. But even so - you aren't exactly hurting that you've never really gotten to know him. You feel no drive to correct this oversight.
Wilco is possibly that cool, yet kinda dicky, guy in high school.
NotAboutWilco: The Eternal Fuzzbox Meltdown
Okay - this was an extremely INSANE and long post that I eventually deleted even from my private posts but which I can sum up thusly:
"OMG, how much do I HATE fuzzboxes? I want them outlawed."
The End.
Music I DEMAND You Listen To; otherwise known as "No Wilco Here"
This is a post I keep wanting to make and keep plotting to make and it usually happens when I remember a song that the world as a group needs to experience and since I don't control the world (and wouldn't want to - gah, can you imagine the work involved? I am waaay too disorganized) I always plot to just post it to y'all. But I am terrified of the music people and wish to continue vidding. So I never do just music posts (cause posting vids, in my head, is safer than posting just mp3s. I am not logical).
If I was doing the insane demand post today - the song would be Black Star's "Thieves In the Night"
Hidin like thieves in the night from life
Illusions of oasis makin you look twice
Cause I dig it. I've also got a post full of so-called Alt-Country and a post full of contemporary protest type music and a post of so-called Alt-Country Contemporary Protest Music.
Cause I am well-rounded, yo.

Date: 2006-01-04 10:35 pm (UTC)No, no - at the time I wanted them all just gone because the overuse annoys me just that much. It is just...there are songs I COULD LOVE and the distortion creates this distancing effect with me. I feel isolated from the sound and it isn't something I can penetrate and it drives me nuts.

Date: 2006-01-04 11:46 pm (UTC)I approve of so-called alt-country music posts. And for a drive by non alt country rec: have you heard Marah's "Freedom Park"? For some reason I think you'd really dig it.

Date: 2006-01-05 04:34 am (UTC)I will put Marah on the list to check out since I heartily dig your musical tastes.

Date: 2006-01-07 07:29 pm (UTC)I saw your Angel vid Two Words a little while ago and I absolutely loved it. It was all there, and you even made the fifth season look good. Anyway, since I liked it a lot, I'd like to rec it in my lj. Do you mind if I put a direct link to the vid?

Date: 2006-01-07 08:22 pm (UTC)You loved it? Well, I didn't think it was that good. There were good moments and good eps, but overall... To me, it felt like the writers had lost their direction and the result was not very good.
What I liked about fifth season was Illyria, how they handled Connor (I actually loved how they did that), Gunn's moral ambigousness (I even wrota a fic about it :D) and... okay. Sorry, won't get into a detailed analysis. :)
But it is great to meet someone who liked the fifth season, everyone I know seemed to hate it, which I thought was a bit much. It wasn't horrible, but not nowhere near as good as other seasons (putting the Jasmin fiasco aside).

Date: 2006-01-07 08:50 pm (UTC)Seriously, there is not much about Angel the Series as a whole that I don't completely and without reservation hold tight in my heart. What I didn't care for at the time (which is actually really not that much - considering there are 5 years of story there) has been carefully fanwanked by me to make a cohesive whole.
I am entirely uncritical of this show - it is amazing and I love it.

Date: 2006-01-07 08:55 pm (UTC)Right now I'm loving Stargate: Atlantis, and even though I see the plot holes and whatever mistakes the writers have made - I could not care less, because I just love, love, love the show so much. So I know how you feel about Angel. :)
