Okay - so I finally have enough songs in iTunes to actually play this random shuffle thing - I've got the first line of each song (sometimes more if I got carried away - I hate to only do half a thought. It is an aesthetics thing) pulled off my shuffle and you guess in the comments and I'll edit the post to strike thru the correct guesses cause I know how to do that now. So yay! IPod YAY! Music YAY!

1. Have you ever been hated or discriminated against?

"Cleanin' Out My Closet" Eminem -- [livejournal.com profile] linzeems and I can remember when she HATED him. Good times.

2. Shoulda been different but it wasn't different, it was the same old story, Dear John and so-long.

"There's Your Trouble" Dixie chicks - [livejournal.com profile] joyfulseeker

3.Well I met me a wife. She gave me trouble all of my life

"Rain and Snow" and no way you can figure which version in printed form but on this particular occasion it was Peter Mulvey --[livejournal.com profile] smashsc

4. A worn out joke to keep the flies away. Carried it this far got the west side winds to keep it steady

"Slate" Uncle Tupelo --[livejournal.com profile] smashsc

also? MUST VID

5. And the hole in the screen is barely big enough for you and not near enough for me to go. And the whole damn complicated situation could have been avoided if I'd only shut the window.

"Murder (Or a Heart Attack)" Old 97's -- [livejournal.com profile] calendae

6. Ain't about my pistol, ain't about my boots.

"The Southern Thing" Driveby Truckers --[livejournal.com profile] smashsc

7. And right when I am bragging about how much iTunes loves me, "Ma Douce Amie" Beausoleil comes up. And while I adore Michael Doucet and marvel at the sheer emotion he wrings out of this song (Geez, this song bleeds) I do not speak French. So we skip this one (also? DAMN IT MAKES ME CRY!!!) and continue on...

8. Hello, baby, I'm sorry I said the things I did. It was a silly fight, I was wrong -- you were right.

9. Watch out. You might get what you're after.

"Burning Down the House" Talking Heads -- [livejournal.com profile] miss_pryss

10. Playa, playa, pop the style, N-Trance is in the house to make the party wild.

11. Yeah, I heard the doorbell ring. I got a friend in prison with the ball and chain. When you hear that whistle blow, you know somebody got to go.

12. Life is one big party when you're still young, but who's gonna have your back when it's all done?

(I cheat on this one because the first line is actually the chorus with the song name so I skipped it)

"Angel" Shaggy -- [livejournal.com profile] carson_leigh

13. Dead I am the one, exterminating sun, slipping through the trees, strangling the breeze

"Dragula" Rob Zombie --[livejournal.com profile] grissecon

And how much do I love it that Rob Zombie was directly followed by Islands in the fucking Stream??

14. Baby, when I met you there was peace unknown. I set out to get you with a fine tooth comb

"Islands In the Stream" Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton --[livejournal.com profile] wolfling

15. Last fire will rise behind those eyes. Black house will rock. Blind boys don't lie.

"Cry Little Sister (Lost Boys Soundtrack) Gerard McMann -- [livejournal.com profile] wolfling

16. Didn't I make I make you feel, like you were the only man? (first artist recording - not the famous one)

"Piece of My Heart" - correctly guessed by [livejournal.com profile] wolfling. I wasn't listening to the Janis Joplin version - I was listening to Erma Franklin's but that is impossible to get across in print.

17. So this is how the story ends: love and hate seem difference (?? Honestly - that is what it sounds like to me). Clever words of rock resentment hidden in the lines of songs.

"Delight's Pool" Madder Rose. No one guessed it but I am a softie and [livejournal.com profile] anaxila asked very nicely.

18 Baby, baby, baby don't leave me. Please don't leave me all by myself.

"Where Did Our Love Go" The Supremes --[livejournal.com profile] carson_leigh

19. Okay - the first two lines of the next song are the title so it goes like this:

[title]. [title]. The battle's done and we've kind of won so we sound our victory cheer.

"Where Do We Go From Here" OMWF Buffy the Vampire Slayer Cast [livejournal.com profile] joyfulseeker got it first. I would have been disappointed in my flist, actually, if this hadn't been first guessed.

20. There was a fine rain. There was a red wine. There was a long whistle. It was a good sign.

"Busted Afternoon" Old 97's -- [livejournal.com profile] carson_leigh

21.The show is done but you're still hangin around. You want some fun but I'm on my way outta town

22.I want to call requests through heating-vents, and hear them answered with a whisper, "No."

(Manifest)- The Weakerthans and it was astoundingly guessed in amazing speed by [livejournal.com profile] elz who also has the cutest Lorelei icon possible.

23.I was at a party, it was late one night yeah, uh huh. The moon was hidden, there was no light. Two ugly girls on both sides of me, yeah was all right. I was praying for yooooouuu ____.

24. Can't put the rain back in the sky once it falls down, please don't cry. Rain turns the dirt into mud, warm and messy like your love.

"Are You Down?" Lucinda Williams --[livejournal.com profile] smashsc

25. Been beat up and battered around, been sent up and I’ve been shot down.

"Handle with Care" Traveling Wilburys --[livejournal.com profile] wolfling

26. Drag the shades across the window. Don't answer any knock at the door. Keep your hand on the weapon beside you. Keep your eyes out for the law.

"Free Huey" The Boo Radleys -- [livejournal.com profile] linzeems

22: Manifest, The Weakerthans

(HA! I never know the answers to these things, even when they're songs I practically know by heart, but I listened to this album all summer while driving to work, and it's apparently lodged in my brain. Now I am sadly gleeful.)

Amazingly scary or scarily amazing? ;)

There was no way I was going to miss Cry Little Sister; I was a teenager when Lost Boys came out and I used to put the soundtrack tape in my ghetto blaster in my bedroom and sing along to that song in particular over and over and over. Complete with melodramatic handgestures(tm). I've had a thing for vampires for a very long time. :)

Although it is disturbing to realise that I have retained the lyrics to Islands in the Stream well enough to recognise it so readily, considering it was never a song I owned and played over and over like the others...

3 is "(Cold) Rain and Snow" I'm got no clue which version you have, maybe The Dead.
4 is Uncle Tupelo, "Slate"
6 is DBTs, "The Southern Thing" (I just saw them do it live. Patterson gave an excellent explaination of the song, said "we never do this one", and launched into the track - amazing.)
24 is Lucinda Williams, "Are You Down?"

I knew you were good - but you are like amazingly good. I really didn't think anyone would get "Slate" at all (although I would have been disappointed if you didn't get DBT).

It's driving me crazy that I can't place #17. Please, please tell us what it is! I'm even googling the lyric, and not having any luck. But I know I know the danged song. Feh.

I gacked your idea with my own shuffle, though I was interrupted after only 15 songs. Damned cow-orkers! *shakes fist*

It is because google couldn't find me the lyrics! I had to try and parse them from the song (not my finest talent for sure).

The song is supposed to be "Delight's Pool" Madder Rose.
