All Grown Up...Conversation with Renenet

Maybe one shouldn't pick out vid songs before one watches a new television series. Except that is part of the fun. Anyway, before we watched due South, we both picked out vid songs. We had preconceptions you see. Of course, watching Season 4 has kind of blown most of them out of the water:

Fraser was never Angel. What happened was that he was and is Fraser.

But before I watched the show, I thought he might be Angel. Cause of the repression and all, you see. But Fraser's repression is a new kind of repression for me. It isn't even all that sexy so much as just plain heartbreaking.

Oh, yeah, I didn't really see the Angel comparison myself - I was more just wondering what changed in season four. Probably I need to watch it. :) It's kind of funny that Fraser doesn't seem to have a fannish archetype beyond himself, though.

Oh, we figured out Fraser wasn't Angel watching the first season, but then I thought he was Buffy. But then... none of that really works. This is like, something new.

If Fraser can't be said to be any character, can other characters be said to be Fraser? Or does it work like that?

I'm almost all the way through season three. Fraser's not breaking my heart quite as badly as he did in s1/s2, but he still is a little bit, cause, well. And Ray K! I have a voice to put to the longass AUs now. (Have you read the one where Ray K is recovering from a near-death experience and runs off to Canada to live with Fraser? It's like ten times more angsty than I'm making it sound.)

See, I thought he was. I totally did and then I watched S4 and then I watched S3/4 together and I was so completely wrong about that. I tried to make him Xander but then I just had to give up the ghost and admit that nothing that I have previously known fits this at all.

It was like a Big Dramatic Moment of Revelation for me.
