Apr. 19th, 2003 11:30 amDamn - I am glad I don't vid "Firefly" now. I've thought about it - I have some source and could get the rest... and I liked the show (more now even than when it aired) but if I ever do vid it - those vids will never be put online. At least not by me.
I've considered the whole password protected thing for the videos. I really have, it would simplify the bandwidth issues and would certainly cut out the problems with clip theft.. but I like having them posted and freely available and hearing from people that I don't know that they liked them, hated them - whatever - that they saw them - that is cool. But enough of this shit goes down and I will move the vids off the site - cause I want to keep making them more than I want to share them openly. And a C&D letter just would not be cool.
And if you are lost and have no idea what any of this is about, check out
bonibaru's LJ. There really are no words. While you are at it - go add thoughts to http://www.livejournal.com/users/tzikeh/20127.html -
tzikeh is trying to do something - which is cool.

Date: 2003-04-19 10:12 am (UTC)Ain't it the truth. That's one of the things we hope to make easier with our Primer. God knows, we're probably tilting at windmills, as I said, but there's also that chance that it might actually become something that people can refer to.

Date: 2003-04-19 10:15 am (UTC)A bitter tirade? Day-em. That's pathetic of them.
But hey, as long as no one called you a midget, I might be one up on you tonight... but my sense of humor did survive intact, so far. I mean, jeez, the guy tried to insult everything from my sex life to Twinkies, all in one thread. Ya just can't make shit like that up.

Date: 2003-04-19 11:02 am (UTC)See, I don't get why people would want to clip theft anyway. Yeah, it saves space, but then your vid isn't even a statement, it's just a bunch of random clips to music. I've noticed that it's usually just the inexperienced vidder producing twenty vids a month to the latest Top Forty. You can tell who is stealing clips because they usually don't even do it subtly, they do it in huge chunks and sequences. It's just so blatantly obvious.
Just so you know, I don't think you're on any kind of so-called "bitter" tirade at all. I've read your posts on Nummy Treat and you make every kind of sense to me. It's something that needs to be said, because unfortunately it's something that runs way too rampant in the vidding communities. People need to be enlightened if they don't realize it's wrong.

Date: 2003-04-19 10:26 am (UTC)Can you imagine someone giving him a copy of "Closer"? Hehehehe. He might be scarred for life.
I'm googling all my vids today, to see if I can find them anywhere they shouldn't be.
Re:

Date: 2003-04-19 11:46 am (UTC)Here's what I don't get - I don't really vid (one video made on WMM out of curiosity, to see what it's like, doesn't count, I think). But I still know, instinctively, that clip theft is wrong. Because it just is. And even if there's no issue with copyright, taking somebody else's work without their permission is wrong. Because it just is. I don't get these people.
I almost hyperventilated when you said you might take down your vids - aaagh! I love those vids. Whenever I get depressed I take out 'Cowboy' and 'Clint Eastwood' and watch them. The shot of Angel in 'Cowboy' walking into the elevator with his coat billowing out behind him never fails to make me smile. I can see why you might want to take down your vids, though, after what's happened. Thank you for making so many people happy with your great vids.

I'm thinking the solution here involves seeking these people out and flogging them repeatedly with their own keyboards. Because then, not only will they be unconscious and unable to do such stupid things, but if we hit them hard enough we can destroy the circuitry in the keyboards and they won't be able to type anymore. :-p

Date: 2003-04-19 04:10 pm (UTC)I don't vid, but I can tell that it obviously takes a lot of hard work and creativity. For someone to just say "screw you" and do whatever they want with something someone else created, and then refuse to admit that what they did might have been just a little bit wrong - that just blows my mind. Also makes me feel a little violent.
