So far so good. I dropped Sid off at the new Kennel this morning and they were so great - they let me go back and get his run set-up with his quilt and blanket and toys and then we went out to the yard and while he was wandering around and sniffing stuff I slipped out.

I think this will work out. I hope it works out. I got them to explain the difference between the offered choices of "playtime" and "TLC" -- playtime is structured. They take the dog into the yard area and do retrieval games or run or something like that. TLC just means they sit down with the dog and love on him. I picked TLC since Sid's games are really... well, the rules are only known to him and while I have picked up on the objectives to most of the games - I still am not really clear about 50% of the time what we are doing. Unless we are playing Squeaker!Moose -- I totally know the rules and I actually can win that one. YAY Team Me!

But I didn't have the hour necessary to explain how to play Squeaker!Moose and anyway - I couldn't find the moose this morning (Sid often hides the toy because he *hates* losing). Well, anyway -- he is just going to want attention and won't be able to focus on anything constructive at all while he is there, so I told them I just wanted someone to pat him and talk to him during his playtimes. I would have taught the girl who will be primarily taking care of him, his song -- but my throat was closing up so I couldn't sing it. I didn't want to upset Sid by crying (cause he was already pretty freaked until we went in the yard) but I did tell her that he likes to be called Sidwickian and Sidney and Puppy. Actually - Sid just *loves* hearing his name and she kept a steady stream of chatter with him as I was leaving so... yeah - I think these are dog people who know how to handle my own Dog-faced-boy, so yeah.

I made it to the car before I cried. I am getting so much better at this.

Meanwhile, a co-worker who... I am just about fed up with her, really -- she tried to make me feel that this kennel, because I don't like *her* kennel, that this place is not a secure facility when I have done a ton of research and site inspections and checked their certification (only Kennel in Kentucky with ABKA certification) and what not. She had a horror story about a cat the kennel lost. Well - turns out the cat was not a Kennel cat but was at the vet clinic next door. The owner of the cat did not have the cat in a carrier and when he went to get out of his car - the cat took off. This happened in the parking lot.

Meanwhile -- the vet clinic and kennel staff took to canvassing the local neighborhoods (this is how my coworker found out there was an animal missing). She was so condescending to me and said while it is fine if I want to take Sid there, she will not be using their doggy daycare for her precious.

Whatever - the cat was lost because the owner was careless - nothing at all to do with the vet (not my vet, but still) and the kennel was several buildings over -- but the people who work there still went out and tried to help this person find their pet. I think that is impressive.

Now I have to get caught up on my desk or... crap, take my laptop with me on vacation.

Sounds like Sid is in very good hands. He probably won't even notice you're gone. :)

I know nothing about animals or kennels (which is entirely unhelpful for me to share) but it sounds like you're doing the exact right thing for you and Sid. As it should be.

In light of the importance of your Dog-Faced Boy and regarding your prior inquiry about San Antonio, I just discovered this morning that San Antonio made it onto a list of the top ten dog-friendly cities in North America.
