That Ole Music Meme
Apr. 12th, 2005 12:13 pmI got tagged by
vagabondage!!
1. Total volume of music files on my computer: I have no earthly idea. I have music files (multiple) on every hard drive and then I have downloaded music floating in one catch all before I move it to a file and then I also have a lot of music in different aim ID folders and it all becomes very confusing but somehow - I can usually find stuff. I just have no idea where it lies as a whole.
2. The Last CD I bought was: "Quality" by Talib Kweli. I think.
3. The Last Song I Listened To Before Writing This: "When I Paint My Masterpiece" by Emmylou Harris because it is my favorite Dylan cover of all time, which is saying a LOT, but when Harris sang it - it went from being a song that I enjoyed to being a song that was suddenly intensely personal. Also, I am vidding it. This song is currently on repeat, indefinately.
4. Five Songs I Listen To A Lot:
All are songs that I want to vid or are vids or that live in my head because lately I have been in imput mode fannishly, so all songs I listen to are vids in a way. Or not. But still, are.
1. "No Touch" Madder Rose. This is my River song.
2. "Night on the Sun" Modest Mouse. This is my Atlantis song if
just_eunice will collab with me.
3. "Grace" by Peter Mulvey. I love this song and it makes me happy and I just found a promo single in a dollar bin at a local used CD shop so I don't even have to hit repeat.
4. "Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik" by Outkast. In my head it is about Atlantis. Just. Leave me alone.
5. "Hold Fast to the Right" by June Carter Cash. If I can get through a song she sings without crying, I am doing really good. This could be an intensely creepy Carnivale vid that I will never make or advocate making because I think June would disapprove. But other than my own issues - I can see where this would really work.
Now, five songs that I have been listening to a lot in the past couple of months would be:
1. "Baby" by Imperial Teen - vid
2. "Johnny Feelgood" by Liz Phair - wants to be a vid
3. "Underwhelmed" by Sloan - yearns to be a vid
4. "Talking to a Brick Wall" by the Cooper Temple Clause - vid
5. "Waltz Across Texas Tonight" by Emmylou Harris - vid
And now I tag five people to also complete this meme - BUT ONLY IF THEY WANT TO DO IT!!

And I knew when I did it that it would never fly, but I still had to try for it. I shall condense and recut and let the emotion speak for itself. That's what I need to do, right?

Date: 2005-04-12 10:28 pm (UTC)My immediate thought was "What, is Flo being ironic?" because I've just snarked publicly (above) about my vidder's vid in progress. Poor form, renenet, poor form! Although, admittedly, when the vidder in question is sisabet, the forms are liable to give way to unorthodox configurations of one kind or another. I suppose the core principle at work here is that you can say almost anything when you beta a vid as long as its done with love and respect for the vid and the vidder. And that a beta relationship takes patience, nurturing, and practice, but the time investment is worth it if you can get to a point where you can shorthand the description of a problem with a term such as "Disco Adama."
But you didn't ask for a beta disquisition, you asked about a panel. As you may have noted on the recent call for moderators (http://www.livejournal.com/community/vividcon/27654.html) post, there is a panel on betaing in the running for August. There had been interest in an examples-based approach — sort of a case study of the beta process of a particular vid with drafts shown and everything.
*nothing's final about panels at this point because we're still in the call for volunteers stage. We won't know for sure that this panel is on or that we'll be the ones doing it, but I suspect that there will be a panel on beta.

I hear ya. When betaing my vid recently, sisabet and I came up with "static motherfucker" as a name for something to tweak. Hee.
I'm glad the panel will be example-based, and I can't wait to see how "Superstar" (one of my absolute favorite vids) came to be. Thanks, and I can't wait!

Date: 2005-04-12 08:54 pm (UTC)I hear ya. I'm bad with music though. I go through spurts where I listen to something for a long time and then move on to something else and so on and so on.... which explains the Tegan and Sara, since I just got their new CD yesterday it's on permenant play... at least for a couple more days at least.
Then other stuff will filter in I'm sure.
Rob.Music = Happy Place. Always.
I would be sad if we were without music. :(
