I Totally Blame Eunice. Just So You Know.

Bad things can happen when one falls asleep watching an episode of Battlestar Galactica after finishing a week of constant Stargate Atlantis mainlining.
Mainly - Starbuck shows up on Atlantis, which is just kinda weird. But in a fun way. I seem to remember her causing endless frustration upon frustration for John (and now, in the clear light of day, I actually think being Kara's commanding officer would be one of the most apt punishments possible to deliver to John, akin to a mother wishing a child like her child, upon same child. That and Starbuck is probably a better pilot than John. I don't know how well that will go over). The rest of the details are fuzzy but were mainly about Rodney, as most things seem to be.
I totally blame
just_eunice for this. She needs to keep her Tv-Girlfriends out of my subconcious and causing really bizarre cross-overs.
Although, Kobol/Ancient could be... and no. Just, no.
::wrenches brain off track::
Things I am happy about:
1.
sga_flashfic is a constant influx of fic. Like an IV of Rodney! And they did an enclosed spaces challenge! I haven't actually found an actual cave-in story yet (I am slowly reading - sitting at a computer has been difficult lately post-work) but
merryish's story quite possibly TOPPED a cave-in story for me. I didn't know that could even happen! And I also might now find Zelenka hot. This is all terribly exciting, this journey of self-discovery through SGA flash fics.
2. I have songs for new fandoms. I mean, I don't have to have a song for a show to enjoy it and participate in it and think about it ("House" comes to mind), but when I do find something that just clicks in my head, a very hyper small child in the back of my mind finally sits down and focuses. And that feels a lot like relief, especially since I am driving to Mom's tonight and if I want to - I can listen to these songs and wallow mentally in the shows they are about for over 2 hours in the dark! Yay!
3. Battlestar Gallactica: 2 eps in and a mini behind me and I realized driving to work this morning (after I considered the dream!induced possibility of Starbuck/McKay -- and while the combining of names in a ship seriously bugs me in all but two cases - McBuck cracks me up) that the characters on BSG that I am interested in and where I feel an intense emotional investment are all women.
This is a first for me and genre show, just so you know (Farscape was almost the exception to the rule, except my first emotional attachment was to John and then Aeryn). I could spend a lot of time examining my own mysoginistic tendencies and put on a hair-suit and ask Brother Justin for some floggers, but I don't think I will because - yeah, if I am told a story where the main characters' are interesting and compelling and hit my own personal ping-o-meters; I will like these characters or become interested regardless of sex. Or gender (hee- see what I did there? God, I am 12. You should quite reading me now before I start making doody jokes).
I am interested in Commander Adama and the XO, but my investment in what is actually going on is racheted up whenever Starbuck, Boomer or Roslin are onscreen. Most of my feelings about Apollo are merely based upon Starbuck's feelings for Apollo.
Boomer is just killing me. I just - MY GOD.
And I was gonna like President Roslin on a Mary McDonnel default, but I just really like her. I wish she was real (and running for office).
4. The season finale of Atlantis airs tonight so I can actually talk about it! YAY!
That's all I got today, people.

Date: 2005-03-25 06:18 pm (UTC)I was too lazy to type up a whole thing about it, but I wanted to, back when I first d/l'd all the eps and watched them. Oh, sure, there are other female characters I adore (Buffy being just one), but never before has a show been all *about* the girls for me. Much as I love Adama (and Apollo grew on me), it's the women in this show who have me still thinking when my television is turned off.

Date: 2005-03-25 08:53 pm (UTC)Roslin is an interesting character, and I'm really impressed with how she's developed throughout the series (I'm at ep. 10 now, so I won't spoil you). Suffice it to say that if she was real and could be voted for, she might even stand a good chance of winning. Just brilliant.
And Starbuck! *swoons* She's all of what I love about Aeryn Sun and then some.
I have to admit that the interaction between the female Cylons fascinates me as well. It's eerily catty and while I'm not entirely sure it's meant to be that way, it makes even Six seem more human.

Date: 2005-03-26 06:52 am (UTC)Of course, everyone I know right now is into House and BSG and Atlantis, so perhaps less kismet and more ordinary.
Also, because I have given up on hoping that I'll eventually open up Gmail and compose that long, gushy email of fb for 'Two Words' (or 'Without You I'm Nothing,' or 'Closer,' and on and on and on), I'm going to take this lazy comment opportunity to tell you that I showed my mother 'Two Words,' who's never seen Angel and almost prides herself on being what she calls 'the last person on Earth to never have seen Buffy,' and she loved it. LOVED IT. She wanted to watch it again, and then she wanted to watch more vids (for the first time ever), and I told her how I've watched it about 12 times, even though I've only seen about 16 episodes of Angel, and one night it made me tear up because I saw completely new levels there, just like when I watched 'Without You I'm Nothing' and knew this is what the show had -dreams- it could be, could mean, and now I'm rambling in embarrassing ways, but I'm still going to tell you that in my obsessive vid-filing (ex: Movie, Other TV, Non-Fandom, Anime, subfolders when I have more than 2 vids of a show), I have a few folders JUST for vidders who are so good that the fandom doesn't matter, and you are one of those vidders. Because you are Just That Good.
Hm. If you ever make a vid for one of the above shows, (*crosses fingers*) I will attribute a tiny part of it to my fangirling. Then I will send Killa a comment about 'Blue on Black' and hope for more Deadwood. And actually send that email, because it's never too late, right?
