Back At Work - Feeling Alright - Feeling Okay...

I went into to work today where I discovered that I was not the only one laid low by this eval ailment (possibly the reason we all come down with this stuff is because we all insist on working when sick... food for thought). I am one of the first ones actually back and so far so good. We have a luncheon to attend so I can't post like I normally do and I am a bit stressed about what I will eat - but I am starving and have been laughing like a maniac all morning, so these are all good signs that I am not only feeling better -- but that I am back to being more like myself (seriously - I laugh and joke all the time and I haven't been doing that at all lately).

But the big important news that I need to post about? I just ordered HBO. OMG - I can't believe I am doing this, it is soooo not frugal - but I compared Netflix to HBO and HBO will be $13/month added to my cable bill and so - I won't do Netflix until season 2 of Deadwood has at least aired. Because - I support Deadwood, yo. That needs to be an icon. Hee!

I'm also having to cut the number of InDemand movies I order - but since HBO inDemand will be part of the HBO service - not a problem going from 4 new movies a month to two. If I do this, HBO will actually just be an extra 5 bucks a month. I can totally afford five bucks for Deadwood and S2 Carnivale.

So - now I have to figure out how much I have to buy a new DVD player with because the Mintek has died and can not be resurrected no more. The Pioneer? I keep trying to reset it according to what the help desk said to do and that does not reset the Pioneer.

And there is this Philips player I really want and Amazon is currently back-ordered but I bet it is at circuit city...

So - DVD player is more important than Carnivale S1 discs. Now I just have to decide if contact lenses are more needed.

I have a DVD player that I'm not using, because my roommate got a new DVD/VCR combo for her birthday. It's literally sitting in a closet gathering dust, and I'd be happy to ship it to you.

I *love* having HBO On Demand even more than I love HBO itself. It just makes life easier.

Oh thank you for the offer - but it is high time I bite the bullet and get an all-region player. My life will be better when I am no longer limited to just region 1 on DVD.

I've got a DVD player picked out - it is what I bought Dawn for Christmas (it's fazalot's player). It plays almost everything (including Divx) out of the box and it is just a simple hack to make it region free. All this and it costs less than $70.

It is the Philips DVP642 DivX-Certified Progressive-Scan DVD Player and right now it is on back order at Amazon, but several other places still have it (supposedly) so I need to get off my rump and see about ordering it.

That's on my wishlist so I don't forget which model it is when I have money. How sad is that? ;) (Also, once QaF is over I will be rethinking my premium channel options. 'Cause those bastards axed DLM and I'm not sure how much The L Word is thrilling me this season.)

One thing you could do that we've done locally is get people to kick in with you if you make them copies of their shows. We're doing that right now so we don't have to wait too long to see new Deadwood -- I can handle waiting for DVDs, because the person who's getting it doesn't have a DVD burner, but I can't wait that long to see the show itself.

And really, shouldn't the icon or button or bumpersticker say, "I support fucking Deadwood, cocksucker!"

Just last night I mentally recycled my periodic "Cable Justification Arguments" (aka Why I Can't Give Up Premium Cable TV) about why $1000 a year for cable is a necessity. :>P I keep selling myself on it but just barely.
