So I decided that I could not stand to be in the same room with myself tonight and I went to the movies and saw "Constantine" and lo, it was not bad.

In fact - it was pretty damned good and visually stunning and I personally like that kinda theme (well except the woman as vessel thing and do we always have to be the vessel guys? Really, like is it always necessary? Cause making her the Not!Vessel would be unexpected and daring...think about that).

I've not read "Hellblazer" and I happen to enjoy looking and listening to Keanu Reeves. Especially Sci-Fi/Fantasy Keanu. I like that sooo much more than FBI Agent Keanu in my list of favorite flavors. So take my opinion with a grain of salt.

You know though, the Pope saw "Constantine" and he said "Damn, that's Catholic."

Aside: I told that joke to The Boy during the credits and he got all serious and asked "Does the Pope watch movies?" and I was all, "..." and then he wanted to know if the Pope-ulance was real. I don't know how to respond to this.

And no Smallville tonight. I might not ever watch again. Whee!

I still love Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and have done so guiltily ever since it first came out. I also liked Keanu in A Walk in the Clouds which has a gorgeous opening sequence and the part where they are fanning warm air around the vines is amazing.

Keanu is very pretty. There's no shame in appreciating that, at least that's what I keep telling myself. I find him likeable, too, although I have no basis for that opinion. Just his roles.

I really liked the movie, but I also haven't read the comic. It had an interesting mythology and was beautifully filmed and kept me entertained and that's pretty much what I went in hoping for.

Keanu! Yay!

{{Keanu}}

I know all the Hellblazer people are coving their ears and going, "La-la-la-la-la-la-la," but I have no investment in the comic, so I must see Constantine. Must.

I love sci-fi Keanu, too, but I adored Dr. Keanu in Something's Gotta Give. And redneck wife-beating Keanu in The Gift. And serial killer obsessed with James Spader Keanu in The Watcher. And Keanu playing Keanu being groped by Wendy Ward in Action. He was pretty great in I Love You To Death and The Last Time I Committed Suicide, too. Just stuff to think about seeing in the future when you're in a Keanu mood.

Well, I don't think I am ever gonna be a serious Keanu fan -- but I do find his presence comforting in strange settings. I can kind of hold on to the fact that I know what to expect, regardless of where the story goes. It is a combination of the familiar and the intriguing that just works for me.

I should think about this more. I think there maybe an application here for lyrical interpretation and vidding that I need to actually say out loud.

SPOILERS FOR MOVIE

I went with a group of friends, and afterward we couldn't decide if Keanu was sincere in his self sacrifice or if it was just another trick to buy himself heaven. We came out of the theater with one of my friends and I having a debate about whether heaven exists. My friend is a catholic and a sci-fi/action/catholic movie is just about cake for her, so she couldn't resist talking about it. And I couldn't resist friendly debate because I *love* debate and I am an athiest to the bottom of my heart. It must have been weird for the other people passing by when we got into this whole "I'll bet you 5 dollars that heaven exists"/"I'm a poor college student and don't have 5 dollars" analogy at rather loud (but good-natured) volumes.

Yup.

Although as somebody raised Catholic (not practicing RC anymore, though) I have to say that they got one point of Catholic theology wrong.

If it can be determined that somebody was not mentally competent, then they can still have the full blown funeral, etc. and are not considered damned, because the insane are not held to the same standards of reasoning and understanding as the sane.

(When I was in HS, an acquaintance of mine killed himself, and the note he left made it really damn clear that he was not sane at the time. I remember how incredibly compassionate our priest was with his mother, who was frantic and in tears at the idea of her son not having a proper funeral service.)
