Soooo - what does anyone know about the Farscape Season One Starburst Editions? Cause that is all I lack for a complete series run (well that and a Season 3 box, but I can get that easily) and it looks like getting the starburst editions will run me $45-60 versus $119 for the full box set. And I can buy piece meal as I can afford it (Best Buy has the first seven eps priced at $12 - I can afford that right this instant).

So, are there any issues with the quality? These are double sided discs. Cause, see, right now I am rewatching Season 4 and I have decided that Aeryn Sun is Angel and this means I have to vid her, like, immediately.

I have the second third of S1 on Starburst, and the quality seems good. Reviews by people who own both rate these higher than the orginal releases.

The main problem for me is that I'm just starting and I'll have to wait for the March release of the end of S1 to move on to S2, which I got in an old edition at a bargain price.

Whee, you're watching! Yay!

I think I am running out today and getting the first collection, if the quality is good. This is a wonderful thing for me, but a really sucky thing to do to the fans who shelled out double to buy the series on it's original release (and sometimes more than that if they payed the original MSR at places like Suncoast where the individual boxes ran $40 -- that is $200 for the complete season versus $119 versus $60).

I've watched all 7 eps on my second collection, and saw no problems. I picked up the various individual boxes for eps 1-8 cheap, for less than $5 each. That's still more than it will cost me to wait for the third release from S1 in March.

I anticipate that the prices on the old versions will continue to drop dramatically, because the Starburst discs seem to have more features on them.

I'm a newbie and have only listened to one commentary so far.

I finally decided to take the plunge and check out farscape after I found out about the starburst editions. Have watched the first two and waiting on the third to be released to be able to continue w/ the box sets I got on ebay. Quality is really good (other than the normal issues all dvds seem to have w/ my xbox) and the commentaries are good. i dunno if they are different from what was originally released. The only thing I noticed when checking them out was that the original box set apparently had bad/unreliable subtitles...in starburst, these got corrected.

Hope that helps.

I like the Star Burst editions more than I like the regular editions. They have more on them (fun commentary, ect.), and they are cheaper than the box sets.

The Star Burst DVD's run about 15.00 a volume (if you know where to look), and the first season will be covered in three volumes. (Read: WAAAAAY cheaper than the box sets.)

I haven't had a problem with them being double sided, and I watch them all the time. ^^

The only drawback for double sided discs (for me) is that I have twice the opp to scratch them while ripping as I normally do. As a result I tend to be more careful with my double sided discs because if I scratched the Dukes of Hazzard ep "High Octane" than my Copperhead Road vid is doomed.

Ahh.

I see.

Well. Starburst has more on them. That's pretty much the diff. between them and the old releases. That, and Starburst is cheaper.

But you have to get what is good for your needs. And I'm poor. ;)

If your main needs involve watching and vidding, then it might be better to get the old release...

Well - money is obviously an issue. And if the starburst discs are higher quality, that trumps all.

I'll just have to be really careful with them.

*g* And see, I never would've equated the two of them. Now I want to hear your musings on the subject.

Darien is Angel, too, isn't he? You could do a multi-fandom vid with all the people who are Angel. :)

Pretty much all of the characters I am really interested in -- are Angel, in some form or the other.

Only Angel, however; is completely Angel.

They're some of the best double sided disks I own. At least so far, but Farscape is a heavily watched show in my household, so they've been put through two or three months worth of watching and aren't doing anything funky (unlike my poor Sports Night DVDs which I would kill to have on better quality disks). They have more commentary, and the visual quality is, at least to me, just as good as the old boxes.
