Dear Lord, I really don't like Tom Cruise. I could take or leave Jamie Foxx, although he has given some interesting performances over the years. Jada Pinkett-Smith? I still haven't forgiven her for "Woo" (I want those two hours back!!)

That being said: the trailer for Collateral uses "Man In the Box" and damn. I think it is the song. I love that song. I want to see this movie. I don't really, but I do when I hear Layne Staley yowling "Jeeeeeeeesssssuuuuuuus Christ (deny your maker)" This should have been vidded by now. Just point me in the direction of the vid and I will be happy.

If it hasn't been vidded, that is a damn shame. Seriously. How can a song about mistreatment of baby cattle not make a great vid? It is like the whole reason I don't eat veal. Well that and inhumane treatment and I actually don't like it - but still. The song had a huge impact on me.

Feed my eyes, can you sew them shut?
Jesus Christ, deny your maker
He who tries, will be wasted
Feed my eyes now you've sewn them shut

You know on first inclination I want to go with Angel? I mean this is knee-jerk for me, but maybe he is the obvious choice and there is a better character or show...

::thinks::

Layne's voice = sex.

That's all I had to say.

Personally? I always associated "Man in the Box" with Alex Krycek. And the Spouse and I first saw the preview in the theater. They started playing the song, and we looked at each other and said, "That's low, advertising a sucky Tom Cruise movie with Alice in Chains." I can almost guarantee you it's not on the soundtrack. Do not succumb to the marketing ploy.

I thought Wes was Jesus. Love that song.

And yes. I'm with you on the Anti-Tom Cruise thing. All the way. 110% percent. From Day One.

That's all.

Maybe I'm just a really literal person, but I thought about the bringers.

Yeah - but do you care about any bringer enough that a vid to this song would rip at your soul? See that is the thing - I don't have to have literal eyes sown shut - but I need to show something that *feels* like that. Like losing a child or finding out that *you* are the most destructive force in the verse, or any other way any other character has had their heart ripped out and served on a platter. Cause that is what the song is about. At least to me - it is being ripped apart and denied any comfort at all, especially that of faith.

Ripped apart and abandoned by God - fit any fandoms we know?

...because you are a serious vidder. And Collateral is about film craft...making the most out of every shot...making the camera angles carry emotional load...plus there is just a slick coolness about the whole thing.

I know what you mean about resisting...I had to be forced to go because the premise, the actors...nothing appealed to me about it. However, Michael Mann has finally hit his Miami Vice stride again. The claustrophobic camera work...the isolating crane shots...the blatant and masterful manipulation of the audience...I tell you...it's beautiful.

I come here with a rec! I left a rec in [livejournal.com profile] drdawn's journal too because I think you both will get a kick out of this. Though this comment is almost verbatim to the one I just left in her journal because I'm lazy and cut/paste is so easy, you know?

Failed Experiments in Video Editing (http://www.jazzmess.com/down/BBT_failedexperiments.html) by [livejournal.com profile] bigbigtruck.

It's sort of a little vid about the woes and trials of making a music vid... and it's really funny. It reminded me about all the angst and screaming pain I hear about from vidding folk on the quest to make something that actually doesn't suck. You'll get a kick out of it I hope.

Toodles!

 I thought you would love it too. I liked the pic with the boyfriend going "You want my computer for what?" and then the shot to the psycho fan.
