The Puppy Update
Feb. 12th, 2003 05:38 pmGood news of sorts. I just got off the phone with Daddy. He found out that there was a Knucklehead sighting at the vet's office today. We are angry all over again, because instead of calling Daddy immediately, they decided to try and catch him. Big mistake. Apparently the puppy became "aggressive" and "growled" and then ran away when they attempted to corner him. How incompetent are these people? A sick and injured animal growls and they are surprised? We *think* that they finally understand that from now on Daddy is to be informed immediately of any developments on the Knucklehead front.
Daddy and Scully (his black lab and Knucklehead's constant companion - and yes there was a Mulder - but he is gone, as Mulders are often wont to do) have been searching the surrounding countryside. As of yet they haven't had any luck, but it looks good - the weather has warmed tremendously and Daddy identified several available sources of food for a loose dog. The only thing that worries me now would be Knucklehead's as yet unidentified illness and the highway. Knuckle is still learning about roads - hopefully his size will be of benefit here - you can't miss him in daylight. Unfortunately he is black - which will not help at night at all. But - he has a long straggly coat and is quite messy and if he has been outside unattended for any time he is sure to be coated in brambles and straw and various other light colored vegetation, thus improving his visibility.
I doubt he would be taken in by anyone around there. He is terribly shy so he probably would not approach anyone and he is extremely gun-shy so he wouldn't make a hunting dog - hence he would not be coveted by the neighbors. His cuteness is also often hampered by the aforementioned various bits of vegetation and his tendency, when left to his own devices, to wallow in manure piles does not improve the aesthetic situation at all.
Here is hoping that this story will have a happy ending - something I myself don't put much stock in normally, but would surely love to see happen.

Awwww!
Date: 2003-02-12 04:28 pm (UTC)I have also lit a candle for the safe return of Knucklehead, and I'm checking back often to see if you've posted any more news. I have nightmares about losing my Monet, so I can imagine what your father must be going through.
