Just to clarify my last post: I am only feeling a bit down and insecure. I'm not abandoning the Jossverse as a fandom at all. I haven't said everything I have to say there certainly, and also - I find that the more I think about Angel or Buffy, the more I *have* to say. So while I may be pretty much QaFed out (cause really - I can't think of anything about Brian and Justin that I might want to say, that I haven't already done) I'm still down with the Tall, Dark Clad Hunk of the Night thing. For like infinity. I'm just feeling sorry for myself.

Date: 2004-07-22 11:44 am (UTC)A month ago I probably would've cried reading this but now I'm like, yeah... ::nods but not sadly::, especially knowing how you want each of your vids to *really* say something new. Even I who don't really hold that standard feel like the new season is not interesting to (seriously) vid.
I basically need a new fandom for vidding that has lots of *pretty* people (preferably boys or Kate Moennig) moving a lot in dramatic ways, like flying around or turning into things. They could also be Fighting or Having Sex all the time, either one. Said fandom should also have emotional and drama queeny storylines. And since I'm amateur, I probably can't handle more than 2-3 seasons of material to study yet. Any of your wise suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Date: 2004-07-22 11:57 am (UTC)Smallville is very *pretty* but most of the vidding inspiration comes from the fandom itself and not the show - that being said, season 3 was probably its most dramatic and well-acted and I do have high hopes for season 4. Not too high, but they are at least waist level, my hopes.
Also - don't neglect movies as a potential inspiration - or miniseries such as Horatio Hornblower and I am still looking for a song for Pride and Prejudice. I can't wait to vid Spiderman I and II together - and I bet there is a movie series out there that really speaks to you in some way.

Date: 2004-07-22 12:17 pm (UTC)I was afraid you were gonna say that! And my 2-3 seasons concern was kind of to rule out Angel. Cause man, the size scares the hell out of me. And the vidding community even more. But I'm always scared the hell out of things. Except Gus. I should vid Gus. Anyway, you just made it sound kind of sort of ::gasp:: doable. And I'm glad I won't need to know Buffy (I think SMG is weird). But do you think one can vid past seasons without current canon as retroactive interference? I was pondering this (http://www.livejournal.com/users/f1renze/55025.html#cutid1) because I might have this problem if I were to get over myself and start my SFU vid already.
I was actually a big SV fan. Yes, it's pretty. But after Brian, I don't think Clark is pretty anymore. And I seem to be seeing things "wrong". Cause aren't the cool kids doing the CLex thing? And I don't think I can do that. I mean, I totally see something there, but I'm not sure there's The Love. Besides, it turns me off that Lex is all...bald.
Now that I've convinced people from these fandoms that I'm an idiot, I'll just run and hide now.
Oh! I forgot to tell you
Date: 2004-07-22 12:26 pm (UTC)And yes, I also pondered about vidding movies in that post I linked you to. My problem is that I always start with the song, and the visuals can't come to me if I don't have attachment with the characters. And I believe I shouldn't start with new movies. So the only ones I'm attached to are movies I watched over and over growing up. That narrows it down to The Sound of Music and Terminator II. Yeah. ::feels sorry for own lame taste::

Or Neve Campbell, actually, unless I get to date John Cusack, who in real life is probably a bastard and nothing at all like Lloyd Dobler.
My understanding is that this is true. Though he's done a hell of a job cultivating an on-screen image.

Wow, I honestly couldn't care less about these two.
