So there be a title now. Maybe. I don't know - this doesn't feel like an original title - am I ripping someone off??
I went out for dinner and drinks with an old friend tonight. Much fun was had.
So this is more of the fic I started this evening. I'm pretty drunk right now (which explains my abuse of the word "pain" - but right now that is truly the only word that will do. I excuse myself. Spike is also drunk - we are copacetic or however you spell it) - but in my head this thing is gonna be great. At least for me it is gonna be great.
Ats/BtVS Spoilers for Angel 5x22 "Not Fade Away"

And really, if pain is not the first thing you feel upon waking then how do you know you didn't just die?
For three days that was the only conscious thought he had. He felt pain and he knew he did not die and then there was nothing until he felt more pain.
He has a vague memory of Illyria opening a vein and insisting he drink and he didn't really want to - even through the pain, he knew her blood was not something that he wanted, but he didn't have the strength to resist. Now he wants to forget the acidic taste that was not at all right, but that he couldn't stop from flowing across his mouth. Of course, he's had worse...
On the third day he noticed Angel.
Illyria eventually told him the story - the story he did not recall due to being a heap of unconscious vampire - the story of how he came to be there, with her, in pain, and not be a pile of dust in an alley.
He thinks Angel would most likely rather be the pile of dust. He doesn't say it. Illyria does, but thankfully they are alone at the time.
She tells him about Gunn. About how he actually lasted more than ten minutes, and Spike can remember that himself - even in the heat of battle looking over and feeling this...camaraderie, this sense of finally being a brother in arms - of connection and yeah. Gunn lasted a hell of a long time. They all did.
She tells him how eventually Gunn fell and Angel just kept moving forward, passing even her wild arcs through the... they settle on horde being an appropriate term. There was some debate, but Spike was able to prevail. Her grasp of human history and civilization is still not completely formalized and he will take a victory where he can.
They were few and the horde, being one of the reasons they decided on the word, were many and eventually... it was over. Illyria decided it was over, she was through fighting and to stay would mean she was to die that day. Spike wonders if she ever discussed mortality with the watcher, but never brings it up. That is not his conversation to have with her and if anything, he is learning exactly what it means to fully live in one's place these days. He has a mission now, same as she did that night. Her purpose, decided on the moment she saw Angel go down under the foot of a giant, was to save them all for another day. Except she would never word it that way.
"The fight was over. The only thing left for any of us to do was die. I had enough death for one night so I left. I do not wish to be alone, but I think you will both live now."
On the first day that Spike is able to sit upright without a major organ falling out of an open body cavity, he concedes that she has a point.
Another week goes by and he begins to wonder if maybe she is wrong. At least about Angel.

Do you have any idea how much sex it is gonna take to put Angel back together again? I don't think there is that much sex on the planet. I am willing to try, though.

HEY!! I have Buffy - I can do het. I swear I can. I just don't know that Spike would cooperate with that.
Of course right now everyone is fully clothed or suffering intense wounds or tremendously depressed or righteously pissed off. However, if the porn I watched as a teen is any indicator of what happens next - the water heater repairman will show up for some naughty fun.

Date: 2004-05-26 11:14 pm (UTC)Hm. If the water heater guy shows, you could do a crossover to the horror films I watched as a teen, and give a whole new meaning to the word slash fic. It's always the random delivery people that bite it first. Them or blond virgins.

Date: 2004-05-26 11:19 pm (UTC)Actually -this is not a bad idea at all. That and I haven't seen a blonde virgin in the Jossverse since 1998.
