Music and Fries

I have not had a chance to even peek at my FList since last nights eps of Smallville and Angel so I have no idea what is going on. I'm only posting now cause I need a break at work.
For those of you who caught the preview for next week's Angel, then you understand when I speak of the ache in my arms and my heart until I get one of my very own to...hold. Yes. Hold.
Last night I was in bed, asleep, by 10:30pm. I slept the entire night through. Whoo! Hoo! Insomnia can bite my shiny cellulite ridden ass. Speaking of; I had McDonald's for lunch cause I just can't get enough of their new Chicken McNuggets. Finally, there is something to dip into the hot mustard besides the fries.
I smell kinda like my perfume (Red) and kinda like greasey fries and kinda like patcholi cause I stopped at the Used CD Store (otherwise known as my dealer's place o' bidness) before McD's. Dude likes his incense. I have to remember to not go too long between visits cause this time I didn't even make it past the "C"s in the bin. I bought 7 CDs (I feel justified in the splurge as I haven't purchased a CD in at least 3 weeks and the economy needs my support and I have a long drive next week. Also, yay! I have a long drive next week). For an alphabetical listing of the haul and further justification along with an impromptu therapy session (Emotional Insight Free with Each Purchase!) see behind the cut tags:
Alice In Chains -Alice In Chains:
This one is the one with the 3-legged dog on the cover. I actually purchased this when it came out, but I was still buying cassettes back then (shut up! I resist change!) I was seized by a fit of nostalgia and grabbed it. I resisted buying Sap and I still have not replaced Jar of Flies - but I think a lot of me not listening to JoF deals with guilt I feel at not playing "Don't Follow" at my brother's funeral. We had to come up with music and we had to make these decisions right away and no one was thinking clearly and somehow we ended up playing Sarah McLachlan's "I Will Remember You" which was absolutely the worst song for David we could have picked and to this day I hate her because of that. I blame her as the artist of that song and yeah, it is irrational. So? It is strange - I knew I wouldn't be able to listen to those songs again (Foo Fighter's Hero, David Matthews' Christmas Song) but I never expected the songs I should have picked to bug me. But they do. I shoulda played Alice In Chains and I shoulda played Neil Young's "Heart of Gold" along with the Foo Fighters and that woulda been something he would have liked. So I bought this CD cause I am not where I need to be emotionally to buy "Jar of Flies." Also, they did not have "Facelift" and I am fairly certain that I stole my brother's CD of "Dirt" before he died and Cappy has just stolen it from me and I can make right what once went wrong, by taking it back from her. But damn. "Facelift" was a really good album. I miss Alice In Chains.
Richard Ashcroft Human Conditions:
This is the advance CD and I love buying those when I can, cause then I get to pretend I am some rich and glamourous music person that gets advance CDs just cause I am so cool. Also, what if they change something before the official release? I want in on the ground floor, people. Also, I liked Verve. This could be cool.
Audioweb Audioweb:
Never heard of them but I like the name, seems like I should know them and the CD looks cool with red paint on hands (HANDS!). They have a song called "Sleeper" and another called "Faker" and "Who's to Blame" and yeah, maybe they are cool. This was intuitive purchase #1.
BoDeans Blend:
I have heard of the Bodeans and since the name did not immediately stir up negative feelings, I went with the idea that I liked them and that they are bluesy rock. Or Southern Rock. It was this or the Black Crowes and I think I need to branch out. This could almost be an intuitive purchase since for the life of me I cannot remember them, but it isn't cause I know that I do - I just am having issues with recall today.
David Bowie The man who sold the world
This is the 1999 enhanced CD. I didn't have it. Now I do. God, Stevie Nicks would slit your throat for the dress he wears on the cover. Pretty.
Jerry Cantrell Degradation Trip
I wasn't gonna do it, but I was already so emotional from the massive Alice In Chains angst that when I picked up this CD I had no defenses for seeing the dedication to Layne Staley. God, Jerry - just twist the knife, why don't ya? Hell, I like Jerry - I always have. Layne was what attracted me initially to Alice In Chains but Jerry was the heart and while I'll always like Facelift more than their later work for its hopeless rage and perverted need, the later Jerry-stuff was much more mature in style and theme. Also - his daddy was the Rooster.
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Murder Ballads
Normally my reaction to Nick is the same as my reaction to Trent Reznor: "Eat a cookie and smile, dammit!" -although with Trent, I ruffle his hair. I don't ruffle Nick's hair. This is a CD full of Murder Ballads - I love a song that tells a story and if that story happens to be corrupt and twisted than I am a happy camper. "O'Malley's Bar" is over 14 minutes long. Oh, Nick. Maybe I will ruffle his hair, just a little.

Date: 2004-02-12 11:15 am (UTC)In other news, you clearly have to make a 14 minute vid from a three minutes scene in Stargate of our intrepid heros getting tossed out of O'Malleys. Would it help entice you if I said they were wearing magic arm bands and didn't know their own strength? Perhaps if I bypass all playground etiquette and double dog dare you.

Date: 2004-02-12 12:55 pm (UTC)I assume they'll be for sale soon, right? They'd have to be crazy to miss the opportunity to merchandise something this damn obvious.... ;)
My laughter following the preview actually had my friend worried that I was going to do myself damage.

Sounds like possible BtVS/Angel vids may be in the works? I don't actually know the songs, but the titles... damn.

Date: 2004-02-12 01:27 pm (UTC)Good album, but a little more pop-ish than their earlier stuff. The familiarity you feel probably stems from the million and one film soundtracks they were on during the 90s. A good sampling of all their work can be had by getting a copy of the double live CD they put out in the late 90s. (The name escapes me at the moment.)

Date: 2004-02-13 12:29 pm (UTC)It's Nick Cave - how can you tell?
Wouldn't ruffling his hair be a little icky?
The boy does like his product, doesn't he?
