Closer is finally posted. Deep breath. I can honestly say that I have never worked harder on a vid or worried more about the finished product. This is also the first vid I have ever done (other than collaborations with Dawn, and that does not count) where the genesis of the idea did not originate with me. Maybe that is why it has taken me so long to finish this. I feel that I did finally get into its "skin" though.
Back in July, Kita requested this vid. I was excited by the scenario she described and immediately put together a vid to the lyrical parts of the song. That is when the 4 original betas (Luminosity, Kamil, Valerie, and Jen) stepped up. The thing is - I wasn't ready technically or stylistically for what I visualized. Kita and Jess have provided me with so many hours of entertainment - they deserved more. So I waited. I learned how to open Premiere. And I thought about it. A lot.
Luminosity was there the entire time, feeding me a steady diet of Highlander and The X-Files slash vids, listening to me blather and watching every single version of "Closer" that came down the pike. I watched her vids obsessively. One night, Dawn came downstairs and found me glued to the PC monitor watching Touched over and over again. She asked what I was doing - then looked at the screen. "Oh, you're studying." If college had been like that I would have a post-grad degree by now.
I picked up the vid again and again - ripping out everything I had done to date except the concept of the intro and I started to get into it, but I still had not fleshed out everything I wanted to say, or how to end the thing... enter Miss Murchison. Her insightful comments had inspired me during the viding of "Last Stand" and she did not let me down now. Between providing me with poetic inspiration (literally - John Donne's "The Ecstacy") and then with great ideas originating from Dante's Inferno illustrations (Dawn was inspired to put up a new gallery) she put me in the frame of mind to finish this vid.
Which brings me to the actual finishing of the vid. Thank Eunice and then thank Myrtle. No excuses about why I should not work on the vid , no reasons to wait were sufficient. Those ladies can be real tyrants. At first it was just Eunice - and I thought she was a real slave-driver...but then one night she was sick and she put Myrtle on my back. Myrtle makes Eunice look like a fluffy kitten. No breaks allowed, no moaning about having to work the next day. You will vid and you will like it, dammit! Seriously, the ladies helped me through heaps of self-doubt masquerading as procrastination and I am thankful for it.
Then the vid was almost done, all the original betas came back and blew me away. I owe a debt of gratitude to so many people and I am blessed to have know each and every one of you.
If you watch the vid, feedback is appreciated, either here, at the site, or you can email me privately : sisabet@yahoo.com .
