Nov. 4th, 2002 08:47 pmMy car won't start. Nothing earth-shattering there - it's 14 years old. I should buy a new car, but I don't wanna. It's not just the monthly payments and the high insurance and the fact that I'll be upside down on the loan as soon as I drive it off the lot. Well it is that - but there is other stuff, too. I don't know that a truly sexy car in my price range has been made since 1982. Everything seems so plastic and boring. Safe in its own little crumple panel world. I hate this. I would buy something I like, but that would probably be a '64 Chevelle or a '76 Nova. Then I would be in the same position. Sitting in the parking lot and going nowhere. Right now I'm driving Dawn's truck and convinced I'm mowing down small children and I don't even know it. A warranty would be nice. I like the Mitsubishi commercials. That's as good a reason - right?

Date: 2002-11-04 08:43 pm (UTC)The result? I am now driving a car that is far, far too nice for me. No stains on the upholstery, no bizarre 'explanations' to give when someone new rides in it ("The seat doesn't move. The radio doesn't work. Don't touch -- ! Oh, shit."). It's weird. It doesn't feel like my car anymore; it feels like A Car That I Drive.
I had a point with this post, but then, as so often happens, I started talking about myself. Oh -- why not look online for some loan rate quotes? You may be surprised, and it will be something you can take care of before even setting foot on a lot. You may have to say what kind of car you're considering; I'm not sure. Are you thinking sporty? Tough? Efficient?

Date: 2002-11-04 09:02 pm (UTC)I'm fairly depressed about the whole loan issue. I can't think of anyone idiotic enough to lend me money. If an institution is foolhardy enough to do such a thing - I'm tempted to tell all my friends and family to avoid it like the plague because the place clearly cannot make sound business decisions.
