Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett, [livejournal.com profile] elke_tanzer and [livejournal.com profile] elinora I am still here. I vowed to [livejournal.com profile] kitkatbyte last night to no longer put off til tomorrow the security update that I can do today.

::examines that sentence. Is not satisfied::

I got interviewed by [livejournal.com profile] lunakornkid - she surprised me by asking me mainly about vidding and less about sex. But I got pervy all the same. Actually, not really. But let's pretend, shall we?

Cut for length:

1. What made you want to start making fan videos? Because, for real, vidding is HARD yo.

It is hard chickadee. But it is also a creative outlet that I did not know even existed. I've always been very fangirly and obsessive about my favorite movies, books, TV shows - even as a child. I also had (and have) a rich fantasy life, but since I am by nature a very lazy person, I would much use other people's characters for the stories in my head rather than flesh out my own.

I'm also obsessive and tend to free-associate a lot. I mean A. Lot. Keeping me focused and on target is a problem. That is where the compulsion part of my OCD kicks in. OCD and ADD - the vidder's gifts to the world. Apparently these things that hinder me in all other aspects make me ideally suited for vidding. It's just kismet that I found it...

Or actually - Kismet and "Rebel Yell" followed by "End of the World as We Know It" -Kamil and Lum just really floored me. Seriously - I watched RY first and my jaw dropped. I didn't know we could do *this* - My main exposure to fanvids had been some slide-shows at Haven and an M/S vid that did not make me want to ever see another fanvid again. It was boooring. And Scully cried a lot. I hate Scully crying. She rarely cried when she was my bitch. But one day I was making Cappy a birthday CD with songs about Spike on it and I was going to a buncha multimedia sites to download sound-clips to put on it before a song (Idea was Spike would kind of introduce each song...like "What's another word for Gleaming?" and then into "Cecelia" or "You right bastard" and into "Rebel, Rebel") and somehow I ended up on [livejournal.com profile] bonibaru's site (as all newbies eventually will) - back when it was Schmuck bait I think...and she had just rec'd RY. For months I was convinced that Lum and Kamil worked for ME. But it awakened a curiosity and a desire for *more* - which eventually found its way into the "can I do this too?" arena.

2. Before you ever made fan videos, did you ever have any previous experience with movie making, editing, filming, or production? Were you in the AV club in school? Have you ever been able to work with any kind of "professional" editing equipment like what tv & hollywood studios use?

I knew how to set my VCR. That was it. Seriously. I was on the academic team and drama club in high school. I can't even take good photos - I blur images.

I know next to nothing about the editing program I do use (Premiere) and practically nothing about computers. I have seen Final Cut Pro being used by someone else. That is the extent of my exposure. I've heard of Avid.

3. What do you think you'd be able to accomplish if you had that kind of equipement at your disposal instead of just your home PC? :)

I have barely tapped the surface of what Premiere (not to mention After Effects) can do - those programs scare the bejeezus out of me. So I guess the answer to your question is not much more than I do now. I'm a newbie and still learning - with each vid I learn something new. That has been pretty cool. So far I have not even begun to outpace my software, although this latest round with the MSblast worm has me yearning for a Mac...and FCP of course ;)

4. Imagine the Vidder's Worst Nightmare come to life: Jack Valenti & his lackeys have decided to crack down on fan sites, forcing everyone to take down their clips of copyrighted material. Imagine that there is no longer any way to see videos, download clips, or share files on the internet AT ALL anymore. What do you do now? Do you simply start writing fan fic instead? Do you convince friends to dress up like Spike & Angel, video tape them, and then edit those clips? *g*

Nope - I'd show vids at cons, put them on tapes and discs and distribute them just like other vidders have been doing for the last 30 years. I can't and won't stop vidding. Putting them online is still kind of fun, but it is actually turning out to be a hassle as well. On one hand you have the feedback (and I'm a whore for some feedback)but then you also have a loss of control. Some of the best vids I have ever seen were never online vids and will never be online vids - and it is probably for the best. There is an entire subculture of sorts devoted to this kind of thing and we are all converging on Chicago this weekend. Squee. Sorry. I am very excited about Vividcon.

5. Queer as Folk questions, just because. (Note, I'm still stuck in Season 1). Why is Brian Kinney such a jerk?

Because he can.

Is he really a tortured soul who just needs a hug?

Yes.

I mean, yeah, cold & distant parents, but really. *sigh*

Dude, those were some cold and distant parents. I don't want to spoil you - but Brian is on a journey. And I like that he is an asshole - and arrogant. I like arrogant with the ability to back it up- find it highly attractive. There is also innate goodness...and there I've said to much. I adore Brian. He touches me. Like Angel, only with pointier hair.

This has been bugging me forever: Brian & Justin are always going on & on about how "careful" they are, but then what about all that hot shower sex? Condoms don't work in the shower or the gym steam room.

Actually - there are condoms in Brian's shower. Season 2 we see them. There is also an added focus on the "careful" season 2. Condoms would work in the shower as long as they are stored in a cooler place. His condoms aren't exactly accruing dust though so the storage time is fleeting anyway. Brian ain't worried the 12-pack he just bought will expire before he uses them. Hell - Brian would never buy a 12-pack. He probably has to got to Sam's or Costcos and buy in bulk. I should write that fic.

Steam Room...hmmm...I knew this one - used to volunteer for the No/AIDS task force in New Orleans - that heat would break a latex condom down - but as long as it was stored in a cool environment and was properly lubricated, it would probably be okay for the short time used in the steam room.

Remember children: Proper lubrication is key. Also storage. Don't fuck with your rubbers unless you are..uh.. fucking with your rubbers.

Oh, and most importantly: Have you ever met any actual GAY MEN who watch this show, or is it all straight girls getting off on the pretty boys?

Well according to J. - I am a gay man. Trapped in a woman's body. Sob.

J. (my gay boyfriend whom I am going to marry and love forever and ever)used to love the show - thinks it has gone downhill since season one and now only watches because he thinks he should. He hates Justin and we actually cannot discuss the show anymore because I am very pro-Justin and he will take to mocking my boy. Who he would still totally do- fucker. But I love him anyway.

::licks J. and then apologizes for invading his space::
