I can't quite sleep, and I blame the Headless French Maid in the next room. Well, that and I googled ghost stories for the area where I grew up earlier and *that* was a mistake. Not cause the stories I read scared me - but because I kinda zoned out and remembered the stories that used to freak me out - like Green Mansion and shit.

So, I'm too tired to really concentrate and too wired to rest and I'm just passively surfing, reading lists at Blender when I get to this page:

And while I haven't agreed with a lot of things they've said about, well, a lot of things - I am actually roused enough by this to post:

Um, maybe it is just me, but I thought is was obvious, indeed the absolute CHARM of the song, was the fact that it was a play on the whole "boy loses girl" conceit. Because, dudes - this song is about a cat. It is obviously a song about losing your cat. And that makes it even more heartbreaking than losing a lover in many many respects, but damn if Blender didn't miss the fucking point.

Do I have to do a lyric-by-lyric breakdown of this song?? DO I??

Even metaphorically, I really hope he isn't talking about his significant other in these lines. Eww. I get classic guilt here - he didn't really notice there was a hole in the screen, but as any person who has ever spent anytime around a feline ever, that doesn't matter in hindsight. Poor man - he could have avoided it all if he'd only shut the window.

I want to give him a cookie. HOWEVER, if this is his lady? I want to smack him.

Dude! He won't shut or lock his door until Fluffy comes home! I am awash in love for this adorable and sweet man in mourning. I mean - the hell Blender? Where do you get that if she comes back, she might kill him? Have you ever left your door open? It is A FREAKING SCARY WORLD out there, but that is just what you do until Sparky makes her way home.

Why would he put pictures up in the neighborhood if his girlfriend walked out? Why would he hand out flyers? I mean - it is obvious, right? I'm not just under some strange delusion and am the only one listening to this song the way I am listening to it, right? Cause sometimes that happens. I'll admit it. I just -- even if the song is really about losing a lover and not a pet, I don't want to know it.

I just feel a certain online music magazine has missed the point. And I am almost asleep. And I really hope the Headless French Maid doesn't murder us all in our sleep.

But it won't be because I don't know where Sid is. But? If Sid got lost because there was a hole in my screen that I missed? I'd totally leave the back door open, Headless French Maids and Zodiac Killers notwithstanding. I am just saying.
