sisabetSo I am watching the Oscars right now and Kathleen Bird York, or whatever her name is, comes on to sing her nominated best song.
Let me backtrack: earlier tonight I got all fired up cause DOLLY PARTON came out and sang her own nominated song and I am and will always be an extreme DOLLY!YAY person.
So I might be biased. Keep that in mind.
Well - Dolly came out and sang her song and I think she did fine and what not but she was really pretty much working a blank stage with...canned background singers. She got the audience clapping, and that helped but there is only so much you can do with that if you are not John Cougar Mellencamp at Farm Aid (I am just sayin' - go see him at a Farm Aid concert - the stadium gets electric. It is really something).
Then Kathleen Whatever comes out and she is singing her song and she has a burning car on her set. A BURNING CAR!!! AND HER TEAM DIDN'T JUST WIN A MAJOR TOURNAMENT OR ANYTHING!
I call shenanigans. I mean, the least they could have done is given Dolly a choir.
Of course, this could all be just leftover competitiveness from the Olympics. I just really do not want to lose Best Song to the Russians.

I might consider calling shenanigans in the other direction. At least, in the group I was with, the burning car didn't do York any favors. It just made us fast-forward through her song.
(And those dancers were moving so slowly, even in fast-forward they were STILL IN SLOW MOTION.)
