So first of all - big huge beta thanks to [livejournal.com profile] renenet for going well and above the call of duty here. I am sorry I was such an unmitigated bitch last night. I blame After-Effects.

Massive thanks for additional beta duties to [livejournal.com profile] pipsqueaky (who remained firm even in the face of a very vid-disgruntled Liz), [livejournal.com profile] f1renze who freaking can pick up on ONE SINGLE FRAME MISSTIMED! (and also dealt with a bear of a me),[livejournal.com profile] absolutedestiny who sent me a key filter and then rued the day (muahahahaha), [livejournal.com profile] sweetestdrain and [profile] just_eunice for being so supportive, [livejournal.com profile] tzikeh for making sure I didn't watch "Victoria's Secret" alone, [livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett for making sure I continued working even when it was hard and who had terrific ideas to tie things together, and [livejournal.com profile] laurashapiro and [livejournal.com profile] katallison cause they helped me figure out how to end the damned thing.

Whew. Also? None of the above made fun of me when they figured out what I was doing - although there were a lot of OMGWTFPOLARBEARVID. Mostly from me.

It really does take the Village People.

This is my first due South vid - no spoilers post season one.

I can hold a thunderhead in my heart

ETA: 8-19-09, this vid is now available again as a download:

Xvid version (28) Mbs available here

Additional source:

Inuit singers and footage taken from the documentary "Great North"
Additional footage from "Antarctica: An Adventure of a Different Nature" (I know, okay - I just needed snow), "The Blue Planet: Frozen Seas," "Alaska: Spirit of the Wild," "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom: Mammals of North America" and some educational film about glaciers that I can't find right now.

Also? [livejournal.com profile] infinitemonkeys for making this icon which reminded me of this idea everytime I posted.

ETA2: Oh yeah - that thing we do where I post something and you tell me what you thought about it? I *love* that thing! All feedback welcomed.

ETA3: Notes, interactive beta moments and my nervous breakdown during the making of the vid is discussed at length here.

Oh, thank you!

Laura Veirs is an extremely interesting artist. I already have plans to try to vid "Fire Snakes" as a Serenity/Buffy crossover.

I have never seen this show but that did not affect my viewing pleasure. What you have done with this is very inspiring and the motion is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Due South vid

This is breathtaking. God, the imagery and the music. All the edits to the drum beat are wonderful-- the doors closing, gunshots, the snowglobe and lantern falling, the little movement -- but especially at 2:15(ish)"wake up drenched" when the divider rises and Fraser sees Victoria and tenses. I also really like the diamonds turning to the falling glacier and then to the birds. This is fantastic. Thank you.

(I've never heard of the artist before but I'm going to try and find more of her songs.)

She is really very different from anything else I am listening to - kind of an oddball with gorgeous music and very poetic/natural lyrics.

I really loved the additional footage of the snow and bears added to the imagery in the episode. A fabulous summation of Victoria's Secret - I really enjoyed it.

This is beautiful, but (or because) it hurts. Ow, ow, ow.

I've only seen 3 eps, so I just read the transcript for Victoria's Secret, and now I'm going to watch the vid again. It's going to hurt even more, isn't it?

Lovely vid.

Wow! I'm generally not a big fan of vids because, being on dialup, few things are worth the download time, but this *definitely* was. I love the music, and the clips of snow and ice, and the parallels of the polar bears and Fraser and Victoria. Lovely and sad and beautiful! I'm going to download the *big* version now.

I had already broken the globe and really needed to carry that metaphor on through without the enclosure and so to hear that people are picking up on it is immensely satisfying.

Ah that's great. I didn't know if I had just made a connection between something you hadn't intended which would be cool or if you had planned it out and I had seen it which would be even cooler. Always nice to know vidders are actually thinking of these things. Also not knowing the source means I can never tell if the clips were originally circular like that or manipulated by the vidder.

Aww, I love the polar bears and all their various placements/emotional states. Funny that they got so much attention but they really are too perfect for the vid and oh so cute. Although I keep getting Lost flashes when I think of them.

Oh, ice and glass, breaking into *illions shards of beauty! :)

I'm not a vidder so I can't begin to imagine how much effort (and hopefully fun) went into this - but I sure love and adore the outcome!

Wow that was beautiful. I liked how the ice and snow and polar bears were mixed with the DS scenes. Mind, I'm not sure I get their metaphorical significance or whatever, but it's polar bears! What's not to like? *g* The first time I watched I thought the music was kind of strange, not in a bad way, just unusual so that it distracted me from the images, because I was busy trying to figure out the song, but once I got accustomed to the sound a bit and watched the vid a second time the music really worked well with the images.

that was creepy and really really awesome, gorgeous use of the polar bear source, especially with the bloody muzzle connected to the profile of er...the girl. am only vaguely familiar with DS and then only through fic. This is *most* eeeexcellent and breathtaking and creeeeepy. NEAT.

Okay, *wow*. I am just blown away. The additional footage was *spectacularly* worked in. The glacier shattering off just before Fraser starts running to Victoria was perfect. The movement, the color in this -- wow. *is inarticulate*

Oh man - VS is just an awesome story and it is told so well and is so rich with just STUFF! And there are vids! In the actual episode - Sarah McLachlan to be sure, but dS vidded her before she was overdone, so it works!

I am so glad you liked it and downloaded it and thank you cause just yesterday evening [livejournal.com profile] permetaform sent me a link to "Gun, with Occasional Kangaroo: A Love Story" and I was all whining to her that I was not allowed to read another story at all until I either finished this vid (cause I am terrible at just *finishing things*) or sent my feedback for the week.

So, I comforted myself by reading "The First Six Times" over and over while the vid rendered cause I figured it wasn't really cheating since I read that like a dozen times already and totally have it on my "must send feedback" list. Which led to "Verse, Chorus, Verse" cause it is also on that list.

Which made me feel better about what I had to do to Fraser at the end of this vid so I was able to swap out a shot that wasn't as immediate for the face shot at the end, which I didn't want to use cause it hurts to even look at it, but which I should use because it hurts to look at it.

So I'm thrilled you liked it! Cause the first thing I did after I finished this vid (while it was encoding) was pounce on "Gun" - like a hungry polar bear.

It was a ton of fun - up until the end which was kinda painful. But now that it is over, I am starting to forget how hard it was. My mom always said that about childbirth, so maybe she had a point.

Thank you so much for letting me know you liked the vid.

Yeah, this is the weirdest little song in the world, is it now? The first time I listened to it I thought I hated it but then I realized I kept hitting repeat to listen to it again. I didn't know I liked it until I was on probably the 4th time through in a row.

Thank you so much for letting me know you enjoyed the vid!
