Actually Ben Franklin wasn't an Atheist. I think he may have been a Methodist or something. He more or less thought that religeon was a pretty good thing but was not overly committed to a particular theology. He was instrumental in setting up a Jewish Temple or two, as well. If I remember correctly, there were ministers from 9 different faiths, including a rabbi, presiding at his funeral.
