So you seem to have a stronger emotional connection to the music (which you didn't create) than to the vid (which you did). Am I getting that right?

I guess it makes sense. It can be hard to be moved by your own work. And with vidding, the song moves us *first*, and it's because the song moves us that we want to do the work in the first place -- have to make *that* particular vid.

It's taken me a long while to get to the point where I don't just automatically go "You don't like ___? You Philistine! What's the matter with you, anyway?" I'm trying to be more open with my own tastes, allowing as how hey, I can like Eminem, who knew? means that I shouldn't judge where others find their joy. But it's hard.

And all of this is suddenly seeming very related to [livejournal.com profile] elynross' post the other day about taste and privileging the objective (http://www.livejournal.com/users/elynross/225291.html).
