Oct. 15th, 2002 09:41 amI've been hanging out online, basking in the glow. People seem to really like "Last Stand." The amount of feedback I've received so far has been astounding. The last time I got this level of feedback, this early on, was "Golden Years." I think it's the slash - and I can't name off the top of my head more than 4 Buffy or Angel slash vids, out of, I don't know, billions? This seems so strange to me - most of the vids that I have seen in other fandoms have been slash and both Buffy and Angel rely so heavily on the subtext, so the material is there - could it be the Spuffy? Could the Spuff have contaminated even the beautiful world of slash? I don't get it. Yeah, I'm all for Spike and Buffy getting together eventually (well I am still shipping this week - and still hoping it will pass) but the Spike/Angel dynamic is by far, IMO, more interesting, complicated and angsty. Maybe I feel this way because all of the Spuffy vids I started last week are being moved to the undead vid folder. I might pull them back out if the storyline arcs a certain way.
"Mission Temple" seems to be vidding itself, which is very cool. Spike is filled with the righteous anger of the Lord - always a good thing ;) Never thought I would be on board for redemption, but here I am. Shit.

Yeah, I wonder if the slash quotient of vids a la A/S or A/X or Angel/anyone male or S/X or S/G or whatever are down simply because of lack of source material. It's challenging, but can be done, as you have so aptly proven in Last Stand.
Speaking of Spuffy, I've never really been on board that train, although I *have* been riding the Horny! In love!Spike commuter for a while. Whenever I try to start a Spuffy vid, and believe me, I've tried, I get caught up in this "but he's eeeevil, no matter how cute he is" vibe. I mean, I'm a romantic at heart, and I see the romance of their situation; I'm just not Harlequin-y about it. Of course, so much of the Spike/Buffy dynamic been Jossed now. Cool. I only need to feel romantic about them (I guess) to start a Spuffy vid. (Why, no, I can't make vids on demand...)
FWIW, I love the character of Spike and have only felt the slightest bit redemptiony over the last few months. In my perfect world, there's a lot of heroic death, and unexpected vampire turnings and falling into hellmouths as the end of BTVS. heh.
BTW, I subjected one of my nonfannish friends to a plethora of your vids last night. She loved them, esp. Last Stand, Woke Up This Morning, and Twilight Zone. She doesn't watch Buffy obsessively and didn't understand Clint Eastwood. I don't understand it either, but that didn't take away from how much I love it. heheehe

Date: 2002-10-15 09:16 am (UTC)I agree. Not enough slashy videos out there. Not enough at all. I think it is our sacred duty to change that. I beleive I may have Premiere soon. And then I intend to make you and your lovely sisters insane until I know how to vid with it. After that? The world of slash in vid will be ours! Ours I tell you! *insert evil laughter here*.
PS- Redemption is for wimps, damnit. *G*

Date: 2002-10-15 08:47 pm (UTC)Did you see Smallville tonight? Seriously. Well, not really seriously, and, besides, I didn't even watch all the episode myself. (This is not completely irrelevant, I swear.) What follows is a spoiler, in case anyone in the world cares about being spoiled for Smallville.
Clark GOES BAD, which on Smallville apparently means you wear dark glasses and drive a motorcycle. And make your father spout even more platitudes than usual. But the thing is, Clark also raided Angel's closet. This has got me thinking, because last season we had Grue dressed just like Angel, but of course he was on the same show. Will we eventually have all the WB leading men dressed like Adrian Paul and doing the Highlander swooshy coat thing? This has possibilities. But not if they start including the Seventh Heaven cast.
If I could vid, I'd do a Highlander/Angel/Clark vid, but I can't vid, so never mind. Besides, in my heart, I still can't give up my hopes for Angel/Lorne.

Date: 2002-10-16 11:27 pm (UTC)Hee - about Clint E. I think I am actually the only one who gets it - it has meaning, I swear! LOL. Hey it looks pretty cool for WMM. Plus - I got the Cheeseman in a vid. And he is a central character. At least in my head...
Ohh - I got an idea for Wesley/Angel vid - but I have to put it off for a while. It is just nice to know that it is not all about Spike anymore.

Date: 2002-10-17 04:00 pm (UTC)Did you also see the looks the guys in that bar gave Clark? I know the family council people who for some strange reason like this show but hate BtVS will think those guys were looking at Lana. But it was clear to me it was Clark they were eying. (The guys in the bar, not the terminally naive family council.)
Did you see the episode where Clark had that little sexual problem? This show never ceases to amaze me. Every time I think they've completely redefined the word "ludicrous" I discover that they've merely raised the bar a notch.
