Vividcon Auction: A Study In What to Buy

So this morning has been spent watching The Tudors (once Anne Boleyn dies, I kinda lose interest) and Fringe. Olivia has man-pain, y'all. I likes it. A lot. Cappy is home now and we are watching vids and coming up with ideas for each vidder in the VVC Auction using my tried and true iTunes method (seriously, my iTunes? Magic. Comes up with all my vid ideas).


Here is where I admit to being sad and broke and saving for a new apartment and graduate school.  I cannot buy ALL THE VIDS!!!! But damn if I don't wanna.

*pouts*

So, here is my appeal to you, dear flist. Go forth and buy a vid! Trust I have you covered with the ideas that will be celebrated for years in fandom. You will be Legend and not like that downer of a movie (and the book if you are not visually inclined. Both were major bummer endings - but not your vid).


Aruna7:  She has added more fandoms to her willing to vid list! WHICH MEANT I IMMEDIATELY WANTED AN ALIEN VID!!! But to what song? I turned to my itunes and it gave me two Nappy Roots and one Outcast song (which sadly I had to discard but one of the ideas actually had legs so I'll keep that one in my back pocket) and then! AND THEN!!! Dudes, my itunes is awesome. It suggested "What's The Frequency, Kenneth?" for ALIENS!!!

Can you imagine? I can and it is glorious. "I was brain-dead, locked out, numb, not up to speed" or WHATEVER the fuck those lyrics are. No one really knows - you can make them whatever you want, really.  Hell, Lum and I made people hear the word "Dude" in a Tears for Fears song so with the right amount of elbow grease and showmanship, you can accomplish anything.


Banbury: She will vid Supernatural so I am kinda tempted to unload my Supernatural Dreamgirls idea (Dean is telling you he is not going and Sam just wants Dean to "Listen" except the time for that vid has possibly passed on by and really -- it would be cruel to inflict upon someone who is not me) but yeah. Instead, I asked iTunes for a brand new Supernatural idea.

ITunes suggested "Stay" by Lisa Loeb.

ILU iTunes. I really, really do. Because, damn I DO NOT KNOW EVEN WHAT POV YOU'D PICK FOR THIS!!!! It could be Dean! It could be Sam! It could be DUAL POV, REALLY!!!! 

Just, I truly believe that both Dean and/or Sam has "turned the radio on/turned the radio up and this woman was singing my song/ Lovers in love and the other's run away/ Lover is crying cause the other won't stay"  and you know they BOTH are all "You say 'I only hear what I want to'" and shit. Because this, my friend, is some fandom TRUTH I am throwing at you. It really really is.

Right now, I am going with Dean POV. Tomorrow it will be Sam. Every other Thursday will belong to Castiel.


Bombonrosa: Well, okay here is where I admit that I don't actually have a lot of her music choices on my itunes. There is some Lambert, but he is so heavily vidded that I don't feel all excited about it. I have a song called "Space Dementia" on my laptop that is by Muse. It is very very long. It feels almost too heavy for Twilight, which is the vid I'd want.  So, I'd need to talk to her probably via email about maybe vidding "The Boy Who Could Fly" by Pierce the Veil cause maybe that would work??? Space Dementia would work for The Vampire Diaries, maybe? Loads of self-loathing in that song. Hell, it could work for Edward Cullen. He loves Muse, doesn't he? He would totally "cut your name in my arm."

Oh, kids. *sighs*

Cappy: that little bitch has been trying to out-whore me by whoring herself all out on her LJ, adding fandoms wily nily and screening comments to have secret vid conversations with other people where she just clicks and reads and does this excited giggle and then types furiously. Not that I AM BOTHERED BY SECRETS!!!!

It feels kind of wrong to come up with ideas for Cappy for the auction when I am constantly coming up with ideas for her to work on at home (btw, she is my little sister if you didn't know - hence it is okay for me to call her a bitch as that is a term of endearment in our family. Our family is weird and bit dysfunctional but whatev. Like yours is perfect. *hmmph*).

The easiest way to get Cappy to make a vid? Start it and show her what you have so far and say "hey, I have to go to work. You can play around with this for a little bit but save my original."

You will come home to completed vid ready for beta. Trufax. It is scary.

But if I had to make her make a vid? Easy.  I want her to vid The Roots' "How I Got Over" to season 4 of "The Wire" with a focus on Michael and Namond and just how that entire story plays out (and how so many people just do not care). I'd probably interfere a lot and send her on errands so I could have at the timeline as well (which is how I got co-vidder credit on "Space Oddity" fyi).  So that is in the interest of Full Disclosure.


CEE_M:  well hell, she is offering a bizillion movie vids. If you can't come up with an idea for that, then I am just of no use to you.

Fine. What would I have her do if I had a million dollars??? Itunes says "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" set to... RL Burnside's "Highway 7."

So, yeah. They can't ALL be winners. Not that she couldn't vid that it is just.... well, iTunes just needs a reboot. Post re-boot it suggests Pink's "Stupid Girl" which could either be very very offensive or exceedingly mind blowing. If the vidder takes it just a smidge to the left and uses all of her cleverness juice in one go - I pronounce this a Winning Idea (also it might involve all the Bill and Ted movies - "where or where have the smart people gone?").


sisabet: yeah, hell what could you have this slag vid? I HAVE NO IDEA

WAIT THAT IS NOT TRUE!!! I AM FULL OF IDEAS! I am like Buffy and love except it is ideas, not love, and anyway wasn't she made of death? Or something? (if you want a Buffy vid I am gonna need to settle in for a rewatch, obviously).

My favorite idea today is a Smallville vid set to SWV's "Weak."  I used to think this song was about Clark falling in love with Lois and I liked the interesting use of how the lyrics explicitly say that the love the singer feels makes her weak juxtaposed with Clark being, well, Superman. It was a nice "in my head" vid. 

And then Cappy said, "You are wrong. This song is about Lex and Clark and how Clark feels about that" and suddenly the song just exploded for me! IN MY HEAD IT WORKS AND IT WORKS LIKE GANGBUSTERS! 

See, the beginning of the song? Is all about that first flush of puppy love. It is classic Season 1-2 Clark Kent. He is adorable and puppyish and he gets weak in the knees he can hardly speak!!! It's not a phase! You guys he is having these FEELINGS! and the vid will start to shift after the first verse because we are getting into Season 3 territory here ("Time after time after time I try to fight it/but your love is strong, it keeps on holding on") and it isn't so sweet anymore.  Clark is trying to leave!!! But he keeps coming back to Lex - which gets us to about Season 5.

And then there is gonna be a change, a big one, because as Cappy likes to say "Um, Clark, that isn't love that is making you weak. It's kryptonite." and yeah --- at about 3:00 or thereabouts we get to Nemesis Slash -- which. Yes. Hot.

IT KNOCKS HIM RIGHT OFF HIS FEET!  

But it is still love -- just you know, Clark/Lex love, which involves copious amount of kryptonite, hybrid children, world domination and blow jobs.

You KNOW you want to see this. You know I can make this happen.

I am so excited you guys. SO VERY EXCITED!!!
