So Yay! for the democratic process last night – I watched the convention on C-Span (which was totally the way to go). I was a bit dubious at some of the choices (Willie seated beside Hilary!! What sounded like a JFK Laser-Light show from the kitchen! DOOMED HAMSTERS!!) but I think we (they really, since I had nothing to do with it) pulled it off.

I have also decided that The Daily Show is where I will get all my pre-election (or a day late) news from now on as they are the only news outlet where I can trust I am getting at least a nominally nonbiased look at the days events. The fact that they call themselves “the fake news” and MSNBC and FOX news channel do not is moot. The Daily Show is just more honest about their fake news status.

I think this will actually be a theme in the coming months – I think lots of us will just give up on these damned pundits and talking heads because really and truly – it is almost like a fad that has overstayed its welcome. Crossfire is like wearing legwarmers over your jeans in in 1987 – we get it – we just don’t see the need.

I have decided that this will be so because I generally trend with the mainstream. Seriously, I think it is because I am really sensitive to suggestion so I typically find myself doing something right at the start of wider movement. I got into yoga and then everyone was into yoga. I decided, seemingly out of the blue, to learn to knit and then everyone was knitting. It is strange – if I decide I like some new thing, I can almost guarantee Oprah doing a show on it in six months. Since I am by no means a trendsetter – I have decided I must have an increased sensitivity to whatever it is that makes everyone want to align their chakras at once… I just react to it sooner.

So if this holds – I predict an increase in people relying on The Daily Show exclusively as a television news source, a big pop culture renewal of interest in comic books and light blue drapes/curtains making a comeback in the home. Oh, and the release of Olivia Newton John’s “Country Roads, Take Me Home” on CD. That last one is more of a hope, really, than a prediction.
