What happened to my comment? I had a lengthy explanation of what happened to Supergirl(since I'm in love with what Peter David did with her).
Short story: Kara was the original cousin-to-Superman Supergirl who died during Crisis. Except she didn't die and now she never not existed. Which was going to cause all sorts of problems. Linda tried to replace her and married Superman and had a kid but that wouldn't be enough. So Linda KOs Kara and ships her off in a shuttlepod to her original reality so she can eventually die saving the universe during Crisis. Linda, wracked with guilt, retreats in obscurity.
