the reason that Clark and Lana are never really together is because of the mythology. Lana is the girl he could never have. In Lana's world (and in mine) deep meaningful gazes with Clark and halting random sentences is the next best thing to being a girlfriend... plus a few smooches never hurts. Of course the way Clark and Lana kiss is gross- too much random gulping...
