Illyria Thought....
This has probably been thought about and mulled over a gazillion times - and I apologize if so, but between work and getting ready to go to Slayage (!!!!) I have had no time to keep up with anything.
But lots of time to think about Illyria. I think I love her. I really do. She fascinates me.
And so I was thinking about her and I was thinking about Spike and a current story that is playing out in my head and I really like this story and I haven't even *seen* Angel yet (an-ti-ci-pation) and still I am entertained and Buffy is meeting Illyria... and I thought about what Buffy said to Ford about being vampirized in "Lie to Me."
About how the demon sets up shop and has your memories and walks like you and talks like you - but is not you.
And we know that is not strictly true - but makes sense that a Slayer would need to think this (possibly in the history of slayers - people close to her - the few at least - have been targets of vampires. Want to fuck with a slayer? Turn her watcher). She needs this to do her job.
So, it might not be completely accurate about vampires. Pretty much sums up Illyria though.
Back to daydream. Carry on.

Hey, good point. The contrast between Fred and Illyria is certainly greater than that between Liam and Angelus and William and Spike, if only becuase she's so totally alien. And yet you can still see the memories of Fred peeking through - I guess that's because what we've been and seen and experienced are such a profound part of who we are.

I wanted to see that story so much.

Do you think that the coffin-box-thing was keyed to open for Fred specifically, or that Knox just had it delivered to her and counted on her natural curiosity to open it? because if the latter is true, then anyone could have opened it and became the host body. Can you imagine an Illyria/Spike hybrid? Besides putting the cool make-up on the other actors, would Fred (or someone else not) being alive have made a difference in the outcome of the final fight? It would have changed a lot for Wes, at least, and depending on who it was...
I dunno. Sorry about the rambling, I just sort of started thinking about it when I read your post. *shrug*

I think it is interesting that Illyria - thru her - I appreciate Fred much more than I ever did before. I'm still bitter that we did not see Illyria's story play out. She is fascinating...and now I repeat myself.
