My sentiments exactly! This was always the strength of the books in my opinion - that they captured a spazzy, romantic girlishness that I remember feeling. It WAS as if certain feelings were gonna break the world right open, and nothing else mattered. But my adultness wants to put a hand on the shoulder of all the girls reading these books and watching these movies, and say, "You are feeling love, but it is just first love. Chill the fuck out. There's a lot that you don't know yet." (I wouldn't say that exactly, cause it's patronizing, but that's what I wish the books also communicated, possibly through the example of some other characters).
