I heard people saying that Katrina "wouldn't be much worse than cleaning up after Mardis Gras".
To be fair, that remark was made before they knew just how bad NO was hit. It was said on August 29, by someone who was staying in a part of NO that wasn't - and still isn't - flooded.
They said:
I'm telling you though, if there's no flooding, the city will be fine. This can't be any worse than cleaning up after Mardi Gras. So far. I'm hearing reports of an 18 foot storm surge, but who knows.
I find interdictor to be very informing of the situation in NO. I really don't think he said it to show how 'macho' he is. And really, if you have any time to check out his LJ I'd recommend you do so; he gives first hand reports of what's happening.
