I am so fond of the semicolon. It's so elegant-looking. A college newspaper editor once made me delete half of them from an article because "newspaper articles should have shorter sentences," which only confirmed my conviction that I was not made to be a journalist.

If I were not so tired, I would rewrite that pargraph to use semicolons, but I respect them too much to use them in an inappropriate fashion.
