More SGA Thoughts - The Defiant One

I like this show. I do. The cast is interesting and well drawn, the premise is interesting and so far the plots, while not entirely original, are spun enough to be fresh-like. And I like familiar things - this is why all of the characters I play with in my head will eventually visit Fantasy Island.

Yet, the McKay/Sheppard thing... I wanted to be all down with it, I did - but...

Is John really good enough for Rodney? I mean - I understand why in my first post about Atlantis when I stated that I liked Weir and I loved McKay that some people assumed this meant I was all about liking them together.

And, um. No. See, the only Rodney/Elizabeth fic I am interested in, would be me as the relevant Elizabeth. And that is kinda icky - cause when [livejournal.com profile] sherrold brought up the issue of Rodney's body-type today, she caused me to spend a good hour contemplating how I would want my own tummy addressed in any NC-17 fic about me (I needed the distraction from work). My conclusion is that NC-17 fic about me should never ever never exist under any circumstances.

But back to SGA - I was watching for John/Rodney and I saw some snarky sparks, I did. It was a smitten kind of snark but I was still hesitant. John is a fly-boy with a roving eye (I am sorry - something happened with Ford) and I had reservations.

Then I watched "The Defiant One" and OMG!

OMG OMG OMG

Shit. Rodney is in LOVE! ACK! It is just too late and he didn't know it until it was too late and OMG.

So, since it is all over now - I am down with it. Sign me up. I need post-ep fic and I need it now. Point me in the right direction.

In other news - [livejournal.com profile] astolat included Rodney's first appearances on SG1 on these discs and how did she know I was gonna be all about the McKay? Hee.

Also - I still have NO idea what Daniel is saying. I don't know how you guys do it. I wonder if I can slow the audio down, if that will work?

wow. You've hit LJ like a Mack truck today. And then backed up over it again. Just to be sure.

I can't understand the last 3 lines of the intro credits to FS, S3. ...something, something, mumble, mumble, overlay, wonders I've seen... That's it. I think it's John talking to himself. Not to me.

I've had two margaritas bigger than my head. hee

Remember when Elton John was cool?

Me neither.

 Well damn it, now I'm going to be thinking about that. Er...how you'd address body-type. Not smut involving you. *g*

You realize, of course, this means somebody has to come up with euphemisms for "tummy flub," right?

"Quivering bowl of love?"

"Quaking stomach?"

"Soft, down-like built-in stomach pillow?"

Rodney is a little bit in love with half the cast, I think. If you haven't already, you should watch "Hot Zone" for the Beckett/McKay, and "The Eye"/"The Storm" for the Weir/McKay (and Shep/McKay, besides).

I don't have much in the way of fic recs. If you're looking for plottier, angsty-ish pieces, you can't go wrong with anything by Salieri - her stuff is here (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewuser.php?uid=145). If you're looking for lighter or PWP-ish stuff, TheGrrrl isn't a bad place to start; her stuff is here (http://www.wraithbait.com/viewuser.php?uid=15).

Wraithbait (http://www.wraithbait.com) is a good place to start looking for fic, in general. It's all-inclusive (gen, het, slash), and fairly easy to navigate.

I was wondering if it was possible if you could put your posts under a cut, they do have a tendancy of being rather large, thanx

Ack, do you have to ask for fic to the one ep I'm coming up blank for? I *know* there are good ep tags out there... Must check bookmarks when I get home.

A really great McShep fic I read not only got me to enjoy the actual show more (I felt a bit meh about it... I missed my JackDaniel) but also turned into a huge McShep fan...
Yes just what I need another fandom-addiction ::le sigh::

Um, hi. So my friend [livejournal.com profile] wrenlet sent me the IMAN vid you made to the song Weeping Willow, and...it was brilliant. Wrenched my heart out. I watched it about eighteen times in a row, and a different part got me every time. I think I'd rather watch it than an episode, because it distills everything I loved about the show into a quarter-inch space on a knuckle and then hits me in the diaphragm. In the good way.

"Willow" triggers tragic associations with me, everything from Desdemona singing a dirge on what's to become her deathbed to Willow on BtVS watching Tara die, so even if I hadn't googled the lyrics I would've thought the song was a good mood choice. But once I looked them up--genius. Perfectly suited not just to the screen action, but to the essence of the characters and the part of their relationship I think you were trying to illuminate. I especially liked "we hide our eyes and our love's aching" and "the world don't stop, there is no time for cracking up", and the "pills" and "see like I see" refrain--two things core to Darien, his drugs and his difference.

Thanks for making something so wonderful and sharing it. Now, off to view again!

I think that the key may just be practice. And part of the reason that I can understand him is because I'm a fast talker myself at times.

Yep, that's the episode that did it for me!

Victory is mine! See! See! I did not lead you astray!

Defiant One totally did it for me too. That, and Before I Sleep. Also, for mega-giant-OMG Rodney-REALLY-is-IN-LOVE effect, just wait until you hit Sanctuary.

*creeps closer, tugs at you* Vid? *bats eyes*

And speaking of which, in London I finally got to see Weeping Willow as [livejournal.com profile] khaleesian had me over for watching of the Escapade vidshow, and omg insert large quantities of inarticulate squee here because I got off the plane four hours ago and am jetlagged like mad.

More squee!

The only post-Defiant One fics I've seen:

Solace by chelle - smut!
Off the Map by kageygirl - pre-slash.

And there are some good SGA recs lists here and here.

Yay, new obsessions!
