"Come Together" is a lot about that, actually. John's frustration, anguish, and especially fear over being invaded by Harvey were always really clear to me. The idea of slowly going mad is just part of what makes the experience awful; the fact of being mentally raped is perhaps a bigger part of it. That loss of control, that's got to be horrible, especially when you consider that in this universe, John's mind is all he has to count on. He even makes some kind of comment to that effect in S1: "I can't lose my mind. It's all I've got left." Or something.
