Trimmed The FList

I just trimmed over a hundred LJs off my Flist. I had too. I promised. Okay, that wasn't passive-agressive, now was it? Here is me taking responsibilities for my actions: I got to wily-nily with the adding to the list and it was out of control. The fact that I just cut over 100 and I still have an Flist that is unwieldy is pretty indicative of that and at this point filters just are not cutting it.

Last week something important happened and I didn't catch it or see if posted until yesterday. Well, that sucks, and then I get behind and I'm all avoidy of my own reading list and how freaky is that? I mean - I am avoiding, in essence, me. Well, my choices and actually it is totally in character for me to want to avoid dealing with my own actions.

But I want to be manageable, so there have been changes. To tell you the truth - after a while I just started clicking the delete button - at one point I narrowly missed deleting Cappy and she is my sister. I just can't keep all these names straight and half of them sound the same and without the icon to let me know who is who I just went for an overall numbers reduction. If you think I cut you in error, well let me know. I'm certain that is it. Other LJs I cut because we are not in the same fandom, principally, anymore and/or we don't overlap in the fandoms we share. Let's face it: we just don't have anything to really say to each other. Dissenting opinions are great, but right now I am looking at numbers and needing a reduction.

I rarely lock a post. If I do it is because it is usually very personal and private and no one really wants to read those anyway. If you do - well first, bless you, and second - let me know and I'll add you back.

I feel kinda sick to my stomach. Seriously, if I removed your lj and it bothers you (and it shouldn't - this is *not* a personal thing at all - this is about me being stressed out because I went nuts adding) but - if you are bothered, let me know as a frank and open dialogue is very important. For something.

*snuggles* I can totally understand the trimming of the friends list. I did it a couple of weeks back and had this insanely guilty feeling the whole time. I really don't get why though...

Well, I am sad that I got taken off, but believe me... I totally, totally understand. Honestly, once you get over a certain number of people on your list, it's very difficult to keep up even if you stay online constantly.

I'm still going to keep you on, because I love reading your posts. And like you said, you don't friends lock very often so I won't be missing much anyways.

No matter how much you know it's nothing personal, there's still that twinge of disappointment that "wahhh, the cool people don't think I'm interesting!" which is utterly silly and fallout from the way the system is set up more than anything. (Or it could be that I'm actually not interesting, but if that's the case, let me live with my illusions) ;)

That all being said, I understand the need to trim friendslist down to something saner in size so there's absolutely no hard feelings in being one of the trimmed, twinges or no twinges.

I'll still be reading your lj because I do find your words interesting, especially the vid talk(as I'm still in the learn all I can about this new obsession and hoping to learn through osmosis) , but pretty much everything you say. You just have a real interesting turn of phrase. It's... quirky. :)

I never made the cut to your friend list but that never bothered me so I am glad you get peace of mind over trimming I am in favor of anything that makes life a bit mre pleasant and a bit easier to handle.

I also was never actually on the list but I still like you anyway and I hope you don't mind me commenting on your posts! Also now I feel better about not being on there because then I wasn't like "yay! I'm on" and then "boooo I'm not!". And it is hard to keep up. I only have like 30 friends and I can barely keep up, especially on Thursday mornings after a new Angel. So no biggie

I can understand the trimming of the friends list. Many times people's interests change or they wander in and out of commonalities. And not to mention that it's very easy to wind up with a friends list with well over 300 people. Glad to see I'm still here, but don't feel bad about having to trim. It's part of the world of LJ:)

Don't feel bad. It's not that big of a deal if you want to defriend. If someone's going to cry over whether or not they're on an LJ list, then they probably have bigger issues in their lives than LJ. There's no use vomiting over it. So don't vomit, okay?

Try not to make yourself sick over it, eh? (Any moreso than you already have, anyway.) I friended you because I was interested in what you have to say, not because I wanted to bulk up my "friend of" list. That hasn't changed. I, for one, honestly don't mind - I struggle to keep my flist under 100 and even then I have a hard time reading every post, so I can't imagine how you're managing it in the hundred*s*. ;)

I think the LJ developers (the "official" guys, not the volunteer people) are changing the concept of friends and friending because apparently people get into real piques with the whole defriending bit.

That said, I've never had a problem with being defriended, although I told people I would friend them, and yet they've never posted an entry or made a comment or anything, and I have to read about 200 posts a day as it is...

It's complicated, this thing. :)

I've looked at your friends' entries on occasion -- quite unwieldy. Further trimming may be necessary, but I think we all know that a LJer like me is worth his weight in gold. A guy? A minority? Who doesn't like LOTR? I'm an endangered species.

I don't friend people merely so they'll friend me back. I mean, it's nice and all if they do obviously but it's not the reason I do it. I friended you because I like reading what you have to say about Angel and vidding and you make me laugh sometimes when you write about other things. So I say: don't sweat it. I understand that keeping up with that big of a flist can get a little too much.
